Just stolen this idea from sloth's keeper thread. Basically who should be playing instead of Dembele right now. I'm voting Carroll.

I would love it to be Carroll but his lack of experience and physique at this stage would mean he could be a worse option than an immobile Hudd.

You know to the answer to this already. It's mischievous of you as this will turn into a Huddlestone bashing thread.

We will be playing against; Wilshere, Carzola and Arteta, all very agile and could cause our midfield problems, so would go for a Carroll, Sig and Sandro if not defoe for Sig

I dont find his physique a issue, he proved in league 1 he can handle big brutes try to kick him out of the game when he played in a 442 and Arsenal's team is just as big as him

Agreed, Modric had the same physique and it made no difference to his game - Carroll seems to have the right amount of tenacity that's needed for a player of his physique in order for in not to matter.

Carroll for me. Sure, he will make mistakes but as harsh as it sounds we're kicking a dead horse with Hudd at the moment.

Went for Carroll, but he's very flavour of the month, we need to see him in a few more games before we could vote with any confidence.

I think we should persevere with Hudd. He maybe a bit slow, a bit on the big boned side and have silly hair but this is a NLD and we need someone who can win the game with a 40 yard pile driver...with Bentley in Russia, Rose at Sunderland and Walker potentially out Hudd is your man!

I don't think Carroll ever proved in the lower divisions that he he could handle the physical side of the game. In fact it was to the contrary from what I read on numerous forums.

Even so you need to realise that it will be enormous pressure on the kid to throw him into a NLD away from home and expect him to be are creative hub. It is more than likely that he will regress into his shell and start playing safe passes and hide from the ball. Everyone on here will then slaughter him.

Overall it's a tough call because without Siggy in the team Huddlestone provides set piece delivery and height in midfield. Against Arsenal however we may as well play with a sack of spuds in the centre circle. They will just run and pass around Thudd like he was a rock sticking out of the pitch. I wouldn't worry about Carroll's size when playing against Wenger's ladyboys. I'd definitely play Carroll on Saturday but if Dembele isn't back in time for the West Ham game i'd play Huddlestone then.

Having seen at the O's he handled himself fine yes he wasnt going to 1v1 battles with CM's in the old traditional english way but he made a pass and moved before the other team would react but what more can you expect from him. He is never going to win a battle with a brute but if he plays to his strengths that battle will never happen

Also like modric he isnt afraid to throw himself about in to a tackle or two

Just to be clear, you're choosing Huddlestone for his goal scoring ability? This is a man who's scored but eight goals in seven and a half seasons at the club, you do realise that's basically a goal a season...? I mean while we're at it, maybe we should stick Freund in the side too? His goal scoring record with us was almost as good!

I think I'd go for Carroll. Whereas with Dempsey and Sigurdsson (as opposed to Falque) I don't think we've seen enough of either to know that they can't play in that role (although Dempsey is pushing that boundary I admit) we know Hudd isn't cut out for the quick passing and pressing game that AVB wants to play.

It's far too early to know whether Carroll can successfully fill that role, but for me it's worth a try, particularly against an Arsenal midfield where his size isn't going to be too much of an issue.

Hudd will play though...and I suspect they'll run rings round him.

Also Carroll is more likely to follow instructions, if all he does is show for the ball, get it and try and pass it to Bale at every opportunity, then he'll be 100 times more effective than Thudd has been in recent games.

OMG!!! Just recieved my first ever neg rep for choosing Hudd over Carroll. In this two horse 'opinion' poll I was so close to getting the right answer ;)

Whats to say Hudd wouldn't get his only goal of the season on Saturday?

The poll didn't include Freund.

I like you're idea, however those players above it was their first NLD that they scored wonder goals in, thus logic would say that Carroll is far more likely to hit that wonder goal than Hudd.

However all those players have subsequently gone on to have dips in form for us with two of them currently out on loan. Probably then it will be Sig who bangs in a wonder goal, only to rarely get a look for us after January.

Careful. Complaining about neg rep really deserves further neg rep. I'll let you off this time but I'm watching you :peeking:
