Just stolen this idea from sloth's keeper thread. Basically who should be playing instead of Dembele right now. I'm voting Carroll.
I dont find his physique a issue, he proved in league 1 he can handle big brutes try to kick him out of the game when he played in a 442 and Arsenal's team is just as big as himI would love it to be Carroll but his lack of experience and physique at this stage would mean he could be a worse option than an immobile Hudd.

Having seen at the O's he handled himself fine yes he wasnt going to 1v1 battles with CM's in the old traditional english way but he made a pass and moved before the other team would react but what more can you expect from him. He is never going to win a battle with a brute but if he plays to his strengths that battle will never happenI don't think Carroll ever proved in the lower divisions that he he could handle the physical side of the game. In fact it was to the contrary from what I read on numerous forums.
Even so you need to realise that it will be enormous pressure on the kid to throw him into a NLD away from home and expect him to be are creative hub. It is more than likely that he will regress into his shell and start playing safe passes and hide from the ball. Everyone on here will then slaughter him.
I think we should persevere with Hudd. He maybe a bit slow, a bit on the big boned side and have silly hair but this is a NLD and we need someone who can win the game with a 40 yard pile driver...with Bentley in Russia, Rose at Sunderland and Walker potentially out Hudd is your man!
I think I'd go for Carroll. Whereas with Dempsey and Sigurdsson (as opposed to Falque) I don't think we've seen enough of either to know that they can't play in that role (although Dempsey is pushing that boundary I admit) we know Hudd isn't cut out for the quick passing and pressing game that AVB wants to play.
It's far too early to know whether Carroll can successfully fill that role, but for me it's worth a try, particularly against an Arsenal midfield where his size isn't going to be too much of an issue.
Hudd will play though...and I suspect they'll run rings round him.
OMG!!! Just recieved my first ever neg rep for choosing Hudd over Carroll. In this two horse 'opinion' poll I was so close to getting the right answerJust to be clear, you're choosing Huddlestone for his goal scoring ability? This is a man who's scored but eight goals in seven and a half seasons at the club, you do realise that's basically a goal a season...? I mean while we're at it, maybe we should stick Freund in the side too? His goal scoring record with us was almost as good!

Whats to say Hudd wouldn't get his only goal of the season on Saturday?
The poll didn't include Freund.
