I sort of agree. But, in reality, Ange will be drawing conclusions very soon. I figure there are several players who have about a week left to make an impression, or be pushed to the side.

Ange, has the advantage of watching training also, but he will be casting a critical eye over match performances too.
He will, but I meant I’m not gonna get hung up about the defending for the goals or for example excited about Lo Celso playing well. There’s things that’ll need ironing out this early.

Yeh, that’s how it looked, particularly first half. Most of these players have only had a week and that includes travel. If they’ve made that kind of progress in a week it’s pretty impressive as it’s a complete 180 on how we played last year. I’m not surprised the gaps appeared when it broke down. The full backs didn’t quite fill the gaps properly and then the poor defensive quality was exposed. Once they get any time working on it I’m sure we’ll improve.

I probably only saw about 25/30 minutes of the whole game but this is what I took away from it. Bad defensively but the combinations going forward looked ok. The players actually looked like they enjoyed playing the football, which was a million miles away from last season.

There’s a chance that could be our centreback partnership next season if they both cam in. I’m not convinced Romero is that arsed any more. I didn’t see the whole game but it’s glaringly obvious where the major problem of the team is.
It has been the biggest problem for the last 3-4 years. Jose knew it, Conte knew it, Ange knows it and the fans know it. Yet somehow we've not addressed it.

Encouraging. If it wasn't clear before (which it was), we should:
- Buy VDV
- Buy Tabsoba

Do whatever we need on outgoings to balance the books

If we can sort the defence, the rest will fall into place. I'm confident of that.
I'd also add:

- Keep Kane

It's one thing creating so many attacking chances but if they're getting routinely fluffed then our other frailties will be more costly.

There's no reason why we can't sell PEH, Reguilon, Rodon, Japh, Sanchez this summer and buy VDV and Tapsoba. As said before Dier and Davies will be much more difficult to shift. I'd only consider bringing Lenglet in if it was A) on loan and B) If most of the deadwood CBs are refusing to leave.
Err, there is a massive reason why we can't sell those players and replace them with XYZ: no one has come in for them yet, and so far there's little indication that they will. Regarding them as "deadwood" doesn't help.

Squad still needs to shake out, massively. It's so stupidly big, it might not be until October/November before it sorts itself like Pochettino's first year.

Ange made his life harder by taking so many, so many flawed players blocking people with potential. I don't understand why the club don't have 3 or 4 players at least already moved on and why Ange didn't make at least 1 or 2 decisions on players he doesn't rate.

I guess that's why it's going to take until later in the year before the squad has a natural order to it. Right now its a mess.

There's easily buyers for Rodon and Japh at under £10m imo. Even a few ambitious Championship clubs could afford £6-7m. Reguilon isn't a terrible player either I fail to see how no club could afford £8-10m. Sanchez should leave if again we are realistic with the asking price at £8-10m.

We keep looking to addressing it, but I feel the players we have wanted have mostly been out of our reach, and we wasted too much time going for them.

Just got back from the game. Lo Celso the clear stand out for me. Looked dangerous every time he had it and caused their midfield havoc. Udogie another that looked impressive. Also didn’t realise he’s an absolute unit of a man!! As for the negatives - Reggy was poor, like really poor and aside from Romero we looked shaky at the back centrally (no surprises there). A lot to work on, but signs are there for how Ange wants to play
