It's foolishness to think we'd be better off out of it. If we want to be regular contenders in the CL we need to be able to play two games a week.

Win for me. Dont like and dont want to see spurs lose.

If we cant cope with europa and league we might as well go back to mid table hopes and dream of europian football because we have no ambitions. Ohh and not playing in europa for a season doesnt mean we will get cl...we could end up back where we are or worse.

Jesus, 12 people so far probably have it in their heads that we'll do a Liverpool next season if we're not in the Europa League. Maybe we should lose on purpose in the FA cup and League Cup as well, that way surely we couldn't fail to win the Prem!!!!!!11

Where are your backbones? We have a large squad so we can handle Europe, if we sell some of them then we'll have to buy a whole load of new players assuming we're able to make top 4 the next season which we could still easilly screw up. Liverpool have had a freak season in which everything has gone their way for the most part, I think I saw that they've had 11 pens and they've been fortunate with injuries (compared to us anyway).

We also have quite a few good youth prospects who are going to need playing time and won't get that in the League.

Lloris
Walker - Chirches - Veljkovic - new LB/Rose

Capoue
Bentaleb - Carroll

Townsend - Kane - Pritchard
Something like that for the group stage would be fine with a few changes here and there, and we wouldn't have to be wimps and lose on purpose for the chance of possibly coming higher than 5th next year.

I can remember when we used to have to look at the fair play league to get a shot at europe! And still feeling fucked off when another shitter team beat us to it :(

Can you tell me how a lose will gain us in the long run.....with facts and not just predictions.?

The fact that we rarely win after playing on a Thursday night is a good reason for fans not wanting to qualify, but I can understand both arguements.
Hopefully whoever comes in can get the balance right.

We could drop down to the Championship or lower to win a trophy, surely this would please the new manager and attract new players to the squad.

For the record I don't want to see Spurs lose to Villa (esp given I live in Brum) but just trying to gauge people's thoughts.
You said you'd like a year out of the Europa - to do that we must lose to Vila, therefore you do want us to lose to Villa on Sunday

The Europa is not the problem - it's the way our managers (especially AVB) have failed to manage it that is the issue.

As already said next year the Europa itself will hold more value anyway due to its route into the CL

Whoever is in charge should be smart enough to use the whole squad and ensure key players are rested in games they're not needed and not make needless trips to Eastern Europe a couple days before a big PL match (when the EL group game should be winnable with rotation anyway)

The manager is the problem not the Europa. We've had two of our worst managers back to back and its created issues in the league for us when it really shouldn't have because we've had a squad that should be more than capable of fighting on both fronts.

Levy is to blame for our failure to capatlise on what we had built under Harry - this time he simply has to get the managerial decision correct and help that manager build the squad so it can fulfil its potential

We rarely won because we had a moron in charge.

If we put in the new managers contract that he must put only kids/fringe players in EL early round away squads then yes a win on Sunday.

We'll be fine as long as we have a manager who doesn't insist on taking 8 or 9 of our first team to play the Moldovan leagues runner ups. It's quite simple really, throughout the knockout stages just play youth and fringe players. If we progress then start taking it a little more seriously. With the depth of our squad there is absolutely no reason for any player to not have ample opportunity to rest. The Europa League didn't ruin our season, our management of the Europa League ruined our season.

Which moron are you talking about?
I can't be arsed looking back at results but I don't think our record after the EL games have been that good since the Jol era !

I wouldn't have minded that much if we lost 6th place over the course of the season, it might have even done us a favour with less games etc next season but under the circumstances Sunday being last game of the season after a pretty bad campaign, I don't want it to end with a chorus of boo's being the lasting memory for our players over the summer.

Finish with a flourish, part ways with Tim, enjoy Ledley's testimonial then look forward to the summer of World Cup and see who/what next season brings.

And yet you voted for the lose option in your poll..... o_O

Quite. I don't want to see Spurs lose to Villa. But I do think it would be more beneficial to the team going forward to have a year out of the EL.

I love how people become all high and mighty. I've not said I want to pull the Cockeral down from the top of the stadium, just imo going forward, Spurs would benefit from not being in the EL next year.

Perhaps, but there's kind of a contradiction here - you seem to imply that we'd be better off out of Europe so that we can do better in the league so we can get back into Europe.

I think the players have to get used to playing European footy otherwise they may as well play for Stoke. There are features of the EL that are a pain but once through the group stages we'll meet quality teams, as we did this year.
