Which will mean they lose a bit of their match fitness.
I'm sure they'll keep a certain standard up with friendlies between PL and Championship sides, probably behind closed doors.

It won't be the same obviously but they won't go completely cold.

The beauty of tonight's game between MAN -LIV is that any result has ramifications.

Utd win - Liverpool drop more points and questions will start to be asked. Could start to pick at the seams of Liverpools season, as they don't seem quite at it yet, and losing to a very poor Utd could instill doubt in their camp.
Liverpool win - Ten Hag will be under even more pressure and the unrest at Utd will increase resulting in more drama on and off the field.
Draw - A point isn't very useful to either team, but good for clubs (other than Liverpool obvs) who have aspirations of finishing top four.

It's one of those games you can just sit back and enjoy regardless of outcome. Plus, it's a match with a fierce rivalry, so should be tasty. Think both teams will want to be at it to help kick start their seasons.
I'm hoping for total drama. Controversial decisions, VAR intervention, red cards, injuries, touchline bust ups, goals, streakers, asteroids etc.

Looking forward to it.

The Super League protest did manage to get that fixture postponed in 2021.

I have no info on today's protest but surely it's unlikely to happen again.

I know klopp was joking about them being awarded the 3 points if it does but if it happens again then Man U should get some kind of punishment. Especially if fans break in (are allowed in) to the ground. A point deduction of some kind. It can’t keep happening.

The anti-Southgate stuff is so absurdly over the top that Pickford, a player who's never played badly for England (and does incredibly well for Everton given his lack of support) is somehow used as a club to beat him with despite being the keeper for two consecutive good tournaments. Mad.

Also Rodgers won't walk; the man loves money. He's in this to the bitter end (at which point Villa'll appoint him).

am expecting united to get absolutely tonked but there's also a funny little nag in the back of my mind that they may get something. win-win every result regardless.

with city 'dropping' 2 points yesterday (newcastle were superb obv), it's a must-win for the scousers to stop the gap getting any bigger.

Lots of chatter on Twitter tonight that Rodgers has walked.
Hope this will continue smouldering. Then maybe win over chelscum, buy him some time. Then somemore poor results before sacking him. I would be so glad to see him, ETH and Tuchel being on the edge and then got the sack after mid season, so any new managers bounce will not improve them so suddenly.

I mean it’s an opinion, but I do find it strange that he’s left us out. We’re arguably a better team than both London clubs and will prove it over the season and one of those clubs “chelsea” don’t even have a striker.

Sounds like a he’s still bitter that we fucked up their title charge last season and Son stole his golden boot.

In regards to tonight's game, hoping for a score draw. Entertaining 2-2 will do me, with 6 or 7 reds.

Betting odds have Liverpool as likely to drop out the top 4 as Utd are to make it. Who do we want to win tonight then?

We’ll see how tonight goes - I expect a Liverpool win, obviously - but I wonder if the conclusion of last season has left a mark on Klopp and the squad.

If they’d beaten rather than drawn with us at Anfield they’d have won the league. That must grate. They had a ton of chances against Madrid but Courtois had a blinder and they fell short again.

Just thinking of our post 2019 CL slump where Pochettino seemed to go into a deep depression and by all accounts the mood around the club was grim.

Seems daft on one level given their relative success and quality in recent years but I wonder if consistently coming so close to City and falling short and being beaten again by Madrid has got in their heads.

I think id like a Utd win. Great to peg Liverpool back and placards the United fans just a little. Then go back to their drudgery and cockups

In the NFL there is the "Super Bowl hangover". Very often the team that loses in the Super Bowl doesn't make the playoffs the following season. I think it's emotionally draining to play 65 or so matches and lose the League and CL in the final moments. I could see Liverpool having more bad days than last season.

Who on Earth agreed to this interview? Neville and Carragher just hammering the club and ETH trying not to say something that’s going to piss anyone off.

Good interview atm. Direct questions and not shying away from awkward topics.

More of this please. Football broadcast journalism (especially when it comes to covering a real time car crash like Man Utd) should be less Perez Hilton and more Stephen Sackur.
