Jeez a bit heavy manOverrated is such an utterly meaningless word. I see it used all the bloody time and it is at best a disguised attempt to apply objectivity to something wholly subjective, such as a film, a novel, a game, a type of pizza, whatever. People like (or "rate") or dislike things precisely as much as they like or dislike them. No more, no less. If I say "That Titanic film is totally overrated", then I am saying that many people either like it less than they are purporting to, or should like it less than they do. Either way it's ridiculous.
Your use of the word is goes even further than that, because in the case of football teams (unlike a film) we actually have objective criteria with which to evaluate them: the most obvious being points scored. By those criteria Liverpool are a team basically as good as we are, this season, and no amount of opinion can change the facts.
