Assuming we progress there's an opportunity to add names later on in the competition isn't there?! Pretty sure if we get towards the business end and we can add players then VdV will get added.

Good to hear he is close to full recovery, could even be back for Liverpool he has said.

No coincidence for me that as soon as VDV doesnt play the forwards start scoring again - He is a great individual player but when up front leaves his strike partner completely isolated and when in midfield doesnt play to his given position leaving gaps through which we get exploited

dont believe you can criticise his workrate because he runs himself iinto the ground trouble although thats because he is a bit of a headless chicken

brilliant individual player but the team suffers because of the above - I think if he is going to play it should be in place of Lennon on the right who to be honest doesnt add anything much at the moment anyway

Nothing to do with Adebayor and Parker playing then?

Come off it, the fella played up front and scored goals for us. I can't wait to see him and Adebayor uo top.

I completely agree with you. Especially after the performance of Ade against wolves.

Even though he was clearly not match fit he was a lot better than the strikers we have had of late.

In regards to VDV, I think we should not rush him back, I just feel like we should be a little extra careful.

defoe was much better with ade as well. just get in the box and tuck the ball away let ade do the hold up play and physical work

Not sure it needs the laughs - season before with no VDV the same strikers scored for fun yet the last season VDV plays and the same lot dont score

If you watch the matches on TV VDV looks good - when you go to the games and see all of the pitch you realise just how isolated he leaves his strike partner

I didn't know that Adebayor was playing for us then.

Sorry for laughing, I guess I see what you are saying, but I just can't agree. The very fact that he was on the end of the Crouch knock downs just flies in the face of what you said. The fact that he outscored our forwards shows that he was there, in the position to score the goals. I honestly cannot blame him for some of the frankly crap play of our forwards last year.

dont disagree with the forwards poor last year - the VDV/Crouch knock down worked at the start was soon worked out by the oppo - we scored so few goals where the ball moved from one forward to another - RK to Pav at young boys is about the only occasion i can remember

its not that i dont think VDV isnt a great player its just that he runs about all over the place and in my opinion leaves his strike partner up against 4 defenders all the time - hence they then look crap because they dont get a kick

I guess we will find out for sure when VDV and Ade have a run of games together

VDV does isolate our strikers some, but none of our strikers could really hold the ball up or bring other players into the game like Ade is capable of. We did not have a suitable lone striker before. Now we most certainly do.

You obviously don't get it.

The only reason VDV done this was because his strike partner at the time Defoe, Crouch, Pav whoever were unable to hold onto the ball in meaningful areas long enough for him to get close to them. Instead and in most cases they lost the ball and he had to chase it to move it up field again. If he plays behind Ade this will clearly not happen. His link play with Ade will be phenomenal.

No I think its you that dont get it - when the ball on the rare occasion reaches the strikers VDV is generally chasing his tail 30 yards away

funny how the strikers scored lots of goals when we played 442 without VDV year before last - but as you clearly know everything as fact i am certain you can easily explain this away

Blessing in disguise. We will play 442, defoe and ade on form, good times. VDV will come back as RM.

How can anyone say losing one of our best players is a "blessing in disguise"? the fact is we now have a striker in ade who has the ability to play upfront on his own with Rafa behind for support but now because of this we won't get to see it for well over a month or more. I don't know why everyone suddenly thinks defoe is going to go on a scoring spree.

Early days, keep that tongue in for now

We definitely look a lot sharper with two up front. I agree though, that in the long term we need to get used to 451 in order to dominate more.
