I doubt Pochettino was please at half time with quite how penned into our own half we were, I doubt that this is ever his intention. While off the ball the deeper, more patient approach might have been the plan, I think on the ball he'd have expected us to be far better. I imagine the improved performances of Dembele, Dier, Eriksen in the second half may well have been after a bit of a bollocking.
Tactical flexibility? Check. New signings improving the first team? Check. Winning at Wembley? Check. Harry scoring for fun? Check.
Not too much to say that hasn't already been said. At half time we were fortunate to be ahead but had a resilient defence to thank. No shame against a side of this quality. Second half was different, we still had far less possession but used the bell far better, spent a lot of time passing around their area and but for some poor finishing would have scored more.
Lloris - great off his line, one fantastic save.
Alderweireld - fantastic game, best this season, mopped up at the back well, passed well, never fazed.
Sanchez - a live wire, very committed performance, bit clumsy occasionally but dealt with Aubemayang very well. Love his aerial presence.
Vertonghen - brilliant, just brilliant, absolute class throughout. Ridiculously harsh red.
Aurier - good debut v a tough opponent in Pulisic. Quick and strong, very committed. Good passing, wasted a couple of crossing situations.
Davies - again great, has come out of his shell and is making the spot his own. Not certain that Rose is first choice when he's fit if Davies keeps this up.
Dier - poor first half, okay second half, decent in the air and one good slide rule pass that I remember.
Dembele - at half time I questioned if this was the beginning of the end, one too many injuries etc. Goal summed him up. Second half was better, he was more physical and took better care of the ball. Worried about him on the big pitch.
Eriksen - grew into the game, when he was poor we couldn't get out of our half, when he was good we were in control even with less of the ball.
Son - great energy, lovely solo goal, should've scored when Harry played him in, pace was invaluable on the break.
Kane - our catalyst. First half was fighting without much joy bar his wonderfully determined solo strike. Second half was his uber best, linking play, always available, nice goal.
Sissoko - fine, bad miss, heavy touch but took responsibility for the ball and offered a good outlet.
Llorente - not much time but nice bustle with limited opportunity.
Fuck that stingy Levy for not strengthening our team and that awful Pochettino for his rubbish in game management! Bastards!
Like I said, to deep, yes, penned in, no. Aside from the goals I barely remember us getting even to, never mind beyond, the halfway line first half. Pochettino would have wanted us to counter far more effectively, and in the second half we did, it was like 90s Man Utd at times.Watching the game last night I think it was the plan but it's probably the first time we have done that under Poch and we didn't pull it if off.

Thought Kane, Davies, Jan and Toby were excellent throughout, especially the defenders, always looked calm and controlled. Aurier had a strong debut, Sanchez marshalled PEA very well when the ball was on the floor, couple of 'excitable' moments where he made the wrong decision or got wrong footed and had to be bailed out - but he's young and thats why he's flanked by the belgians.
Dier and Dembele were non-existant first half, Dier improved massively in the second, his positioning and body shape especially - Dembele was marginally better but think thats more down to Dortmund tiring. Certainly not one of his best nights
Son worked hard, Eriksen came to the party more as the game wore on - gave the ball way first half, better 2nd as we had more options opening up the space for him.
Davies for me was motm - first time ive had a chance to see him in a few games aside from highlights and he was very impressive - looked classy on the ball, and his bursting runs late on show whilst not rapid he has an engine.Rose won't just be walking straight back in based on that.
just about still attached to my body, brain has gone for a day trip though
Each poster has a different interpretation of the first half penned in /counterattacking Spurs . I've always wanted to have a defensive shape/system up our sleeve , but don't know if this was intentional here. Dortmund had comfortable space well into our half which is unheard of . 30% possession stat , HUH ??
To my mind the excellent Dortmund forwards had us at 6s and 7s 1st half, we didn't look too solid to me and after our goal I predicted their score...and expected things to get worse as we scrambled away attack after attack .
Alls well that ends well...but I still think our bus parking needs work (if indeed it was intentional) .
Ref helped with goals (for and against) Llorente won't go far with Poch strolling about like that .Verts MoM
Fantastic result well done lads, but not sure whether early tactic intentional or not .
Where did you do your pre-match drunkening?
I saw a lot of people wandering around the stadium very upset that there was no alcohol available
Nice summing up, but if you're going to highlight Sissoko's miss you should really say the same about Kane and Son who both missed easy chances.
Happy to hear we played the right tatics to beat a team superior to us in quality.
Good execution and the curse is gone.
@Spurger King I'm agreeing with you, albeit in a factually awkward wayAurier and Sanchez have played 3 games between them.
VDV tooNah. King, Bale and Modric are the only players from that side who would trouble the starting XI now. We've improved hugely.
mayb...but more because im sick and tired of people harping on our Captain's distributionDid your missus leave you for someone who works in distribution?
