Is it just me or did Doherty have a fairly solid game ? Barely put a foot wrong and made a nice interception and a few tackles in the second half

thought so, too. dont get the poor ratings this week. he wasnt a stand out but he was solid. Anything less than a 6 is harsh IMO.

Sanchez and Lloris man of match.
Gave it to Lloris for his saves.
Son, Bale, Alli and Kane was kept quiet 2nd half. Alli who i thought had a good game was subbed with Bale.
Lamela was full of energy and created a great chance for Kane.

Majority of the scores so far are way to high.

Yes , the score always affects ratings .That daft Var decision goes the other way there'd be few similarities in ratings here .

Watching general play , you'd never have guessed it was Fulham who were the relegation candidates .

Overall it was a very poor performance Fulham made us suffer far to long for my liking they dominated possession in the second half forced us to defend deep exposed our full backs and where very unlucky to get NIL return.

We looked dangerous in spells but I thought we looked unfit, lacked direction in our play I couldn't work out how we wanted to play we could not out run power through or dominate Fulham however with a deflected goal we scored.

We need to get Ndombele on the ball more in such games.

Well it’s not just you as you have 3 agrees as I write but I thought he was awful again. He was a turnstile in defence, offered nothing going forward and gave the ball away a bunch. They got in behind on his wing over and over again

No he didn’t. And he wasn’t an 8. Unless it’s a sliding scale that everyone starts On 10 and goes down. Point for every 10 minutes they do something wrong. Pathetic. Yeah he done alright. But he was a 6. He created no chances. Had no shots on target. And made no key passes. So what did he get an 8 for. Running abaaat a bit??
Momentum shift back in our favour once Lamela came on. Not sure what game you was watching. The guy is a hunter and basically did what he does best. Got control of the midfield again.

Lamela MOTM, he closed out the match for us today.
Lamelas performance actually typifies what he brings to the team.
I think that was his best performance in terms of passin, and his workrate is always impressive.
Lost me a bet to my son by not getting booked but nevermind

But I think he is becoming our ‘closer’. The player who comes on to replace tired legs and move us up the pitch.
he’s good, but not a starter

What would you suggest the team do to deal with an overlapping fullback that is unmarked?
is that the fault of the right back or the right winger?

I think its both, but doherty’s problems cannot all be blamed on cover. Look at the chance at the end of the first half. First he is beaten comically easily despite being right next to the touch line (meaning there was only one way the attacker could go) then he just idles back instead of busting his balls to get back and make up for his own mistake. If he’d put the efforts in he would have been cutting out the cross. If you are playing like shit you can at least maximise effort

I personally think nobody played badly, all were at least ok but Fulham played very well. Hugo, Sanchez, Ndombele and Dele (until he tired) were our best, the rest of the defence were ok defensively but neither full back really contributed to the attack.

Højbjerg was everywhere as always but looked leggy to me.

Bale was marked/ kicked out of the match but still produced a game winning moment.

Kane was full of good intentions and actually played a couple of very nice passes but since the knock to his ankle the other week he definitely seems a touch off it and he should’ve gobbled up both chances.

Son I thought had a good match until, like Dele, his legs couldn’t do it anymore.

Lamela coming on lifted our game, Sissoko and Lucas went up to much.

Fulham, apart from being on far better form than us and taking points off teams we haven’t got a sniff from, are fighting for their lives and played as such. Credit to them for playing well, credit to us for not wilting. Maybe not as exciting as Burnley and definitely not a superb performance last night, but I can’t say I’m disappointed in a single player in terms of what they put in and I think at the very best they showed that they are playing for the manager, which was a worry a few weeks back.

Was about to choose undecided but eventually gave Lamela my vote. He made the last 20 minutes easier and gets a good 7. Sanchez had good moments too but the shaky clearance for their disallowed goal and a very cheap corner he gave away stick in my head. Gets a 7 too though. Son had a good first half as well. Perfect balls for Kane and Dele, one leading to our goal. Was nearly invisible in 2nd half though (6.5).

Don't get how Dele gets the vote as Man of the Match. He worked quite hard and tried, but don't think he was the best in our team. He made a good run for the winning goal, but got lucky the Fulham player turned the ball in. So a 6,5 for Dele too. Toby, Tanguy, Pierre and Lloris with more 6.5s, Kane, Lucas, Sissoko, Bale and Davies with a 6, just Doherty was pretty shocking as usual (5).

Fulham were unlucky not to get a draw but it's not as bad as many are making out.

Lamela is our closer. It's what he's always done best. He brings such energy and determination when he comes on and sets the tone. Had he been fit to do this earlier in the season then I'm sure some of those 1-1 draws we had would've been wins.

I think we have to remember that we've played 43 (I think) games now this season. Our players need a break and hopefully some of them will get that in this upcoming international break.

I'm concerned that we again surrendered the initiative and allowed Fulham to come on to us. We were very fortunate to have their goal ruled out but equally we probably should've nicked a 2nd when Kane went through 1 on 1.

Not one to dwell on too much. You take the win and move on. Hopefully we'll have a better performance and win against Palace at the wknd and be right back in the mix for top 4.

Note - Doherty defended well, if nothing else. We need to stop hammering our players, it doesn't help them and it makes us look like a horrible fanbase.

You’ve avoided answering the question there.
The issue was in the second half only, so bringing up something from the first half isn’t really relevant either.
But let’s explore the issue in the second half further.
Basics:
Rb marks lw-
Rw marks lb-
Lb pushed forward to overload the rb- what should any rw do in that scenario?

Last night Andersen plays numerous cross field balls to Robinson who is wide open.
Are we saying that Doherty is at fault because he doesn’t leave his man (lookman) to close this space? Or should it have been bale/ Lucas who was meant to drop and cover?

I know that there are plenty on here still feeding on dohertys carcass. Maybe when they’ve had their fill when can look at why he was left 2v1 in the second half

Not just running about a bit - he did exactly what Thenewcat said, that is, he changed the momentum of the game, exactly why JM put him on the field.

I don’t get people giving subs an 8. Really boils my piss lamela. Did barely fuck all and gets an 8’ come on.

He was on for 10 minutes. Check the ratings. Totally skewed. Sorry. No matter how some of the other players played. Most of them gave 70-90 minutes. And you give Lamela and 8.
Subjective is judging it over a set period of time. I didn’t rate Lamela an 8 because he didn’t deserve an 8. Fairly subjective.

I haven’t avoided answering the question. I said it’s both - he didn’t get sufficient protection, but even allowing for that he was still crap, and I gave a good example of his crapness that couldn’t be blamed on the RW

I thought he was quite good first half, and pressed aggressively. But the right hand side of our defence was totally overrun for the majority of the 2nd half, and him and Moura were both culpable. Personally I was hoping Tanganga would come on after 55 mins as he was getting over run by players more athletic than him..
