It's the inconsistency that I can't stomach. On Saturday Son was extremely good and changed the game, last night he was garbage. The same could be said for Eriksen from the scum game, ditto for Dembele, Wimmer and Dier.

I don't know if it's the occasion, the number of games, rotation or what it is but Lloris and Kane aside, they can't seem to string more than one good performance together.

Lloris 10 - world class, that save from Glik was unbeleivable

Trippier 2 - shambolic defensively,as if someone forgot to cut the eyes holes out of his mask

Dier 3 - awful decision making and the positional awareness of a Malaysian airlines pilot

Wimmer 5 - not great but thrown into a ramshackle back 4. Plus point for pole axing someone

Rose 2 - if this was a return of the old Spurs, this was the return of the old Danny Rose

Dembele 4 - a shadow of last year, bar the Arsenal game

Wanyama 4 - individually he has been great this year, yet conversely I think he is not good for our game

Winks 6 - on the right of a diamond, utterly wasted but tried at least

Alli 4 - only seems interested in a) flicks, b) nutmegs and c) winning free kicks

Son 2 - back to playing like 2 epileptics sharing a bowl of noodles, that 1-on-1 was pitiful and would have really made a huge difference to the game

Kane 5 - got battered by Glik and given no protection from the ref, huffed and puffed but got next to no service

Poch 0 - bizarre selection, puzzling set up, baffling lack of in game adjustments and pointless subs

It's been a while since I've been really embarrassed by my team, but this CL campaign has put that right. An unmitigated disaster from start to finish

That really was a fucking horrendous pile of wank. Tactically inept, utterly incoherent, technically embarrassing, lazy, pathetic.

Back to 4231 with the double pivot of ponderousness. A complete lack of tempo with the ball and a shambolic incoherence and downright laziness without the ball. Poor selections, badly applied and some individual ineptitude of the highest magnitude. No pressing, people just letting their players run off them everywhere, frittering the ball away all over the pitch...just fucking abysmal.

Individual

Lloris - Very good

Trippier/Dier/Wimmer/Rose - None of them were good, Dier particularly was disappointing because I expect better from him, but lets be straight, the defence was horribly exposed by the fucking ineptitude ahead of them. Just watch Alli's reaction to losing the ball that led to their penalty, he just fucking gives up and that was happening all over the pitch, people just letting Monaco players run off them thinking "some other **** can deal with it" and the second goal is exactly the same, Alli, Son and co are just standing around the centre circle tossing each other off.

Dembele - Trundled around like a turtle in a fucking windsock.

Wanyama - He wasn't good, but like the defenders I felt some sympathy as he was left fighting fires all over the place and just couldn't cope.

Son - Eyes Unbright like a fucking bumblehound.

Alli - Played two good passes, but was mostly going head to head with Son for the who can fuck away the ball the cheapest, even the pen he won with a miss-control. And he was ambling about without the ball.

Winks - not a great night but I feel for the kid being thrown into that shambles, could put him off football.

Kane - huffed a bit.

Sissoko - Putting him on was just rubbing salt in the wound.

Losing is OK when you try. That was dire. The lack of pressing was the big thing for me. Actually, the lack of everything was the big thing.

Cannot believe the ratings for Winks. He was at fault on both goals! Absolute schoolboy defending on the first and not tracking back on the second. Did nothing going forward. I know he's young and promising and I hope he is great in the future, but FFS...

Lloris was great, everyone else was shocking. Pathetic lack of effort in a season defining game. Reminiscent of the Newcastle performance, chance to finish above Arsenal and they are already on holiday and get rocked. Same thing today, disgraceful stuff. Lucky to only lose 2-1.

Fucking LOL at people saying Winks was a positive and giving him a higher rating than Alli. I think that's the 'he's one of our own' bias coming through. While he was wasteful at times, Alli created pretty much all of our best chances while Winks should have done better defensively on both of their goals. The first he was beaten far too easily and he was just ambling back for the second, giving Trippier no cover at all after he had to come narrow to mark their player.

Lloris - 9. Sublime, MotM

Trippier - 5. Offered nothing really going forward and both goals came from his side

Dier - 6. Really poor challenge with the penalty but was mostly solid thereafter.

Wimmer - 5. Looked disinterested

Rose - 6. Effort was there but not the quality

Wanyama - 5. Slow on the ball and didn't do enough to curb the influence of their AMs.

Dembele - 5. See Wayama.

Winks - 4. Was tidy enough with the ball, but was very poor defensively for both goals.

Son - 3. Wasteful. He takes that early chance and it gives is massive momentum.

Alli - 7. Look, I get that he's frustrating, but he was still at the heart of everything we did well going forward. His movement his superb and he just makes things happen. I'm sick of seeing this fucking criticism of his flicks and turns and what not. He's a flair player, he does that because he's trying to make something happen FFS. I'd rather him try and then lose the ball than just pass it backwards. When they come off they regularly result in our best chances.

Kane - 6. Decent enough. Still looks like he's not fully fit.

Sissoko - 6. But I actually thought there were some promising signs there. His final ball is still shit but with his driving runs from midfield you can see what Poch thinks he can work with.

Janssen - 6. Nice ball to release Eriksen.

Eriksen - 5.

might be something to do with too much rotation and not really getting used to each other. 1 we haven't once played the team that competed so well and entertained last season, and 2 I don't think the same XI have started/played 2 games running

There comes a time when we have to admit that the better side won. We are all in denial if we think otherwise.

We simply have a poor balance to the side and not one standout player. We play with no width or pace, which was exactly what took Redknapps side to the QF.

Say what you want but we have regressed as a team despite spending what is for us a small fortune on a bunch of second rate players over the Summer. Some really piss poor signings offering nothing to the squad.

Personally I think MoPo got the wrong tactics and picked the wrong players!
Wimmer and Dier as central defenders for an important qualification match in CL is simply unprofessional on his behalf!
Son was really really poor.
Alli played at least one perfect through ball which Son should have scored. Then Alli went missing.
Rose, who I have admired in past games was very poor to his standard.
I don't rate Trippier and think we need a better back up RB.
I won't complain about Winks because at least IMO the kid tried.
But players like Dembele who I like and always said was underrated was poor.
This has to go down to the manager"s fault!
Lloris was excellent. He is yet so sign a contract and on what MoPo pulled out of the bag yesterday for a CL game, this showed no ambition. We didnt sign the players we needed in summer and IMO wasted £50 million in Janssen and Sissoko.
We should have gone for players like Dembele (Celtic), Mane and Isco....

Ratings:
Lloris 10
Back four 3
Midfield 3 but a 4 for winks
Son 0
Kane 3
Eriksen 4
Sissoko 3

Picked the wrong players and wrong tactics for a CL must qualified game!
Ive not been impressed with his players selection lately and think we all got carried away at Son's two good game performance.
Really miss Alderweireld and Lamela.

Comedy rage-posts everywhere.

I didn't see the match because I was out singing. But I followed the online live feeds, which all described an exciting, close, competitive match between a team that wasn't quite as good but was competing well (Spurs) and a team that was measurably better (Monaco).

They are better than we are. I could see that at Wembley. They've spent a fuckload more money. Deal with it. We're pretty good. We're not the best. Yet.

Usually agree with you mate, but we were awful. We looked totally inept at times, and in such an important match

Sure the disappointment over amplifies thing, as does Poch clearly prioritising the league; but I wouldn't bother watching the highlights if you want anything approaching entertaining football. Well from us, anyway

Pretty much outplayed by a better side.

I said at the beginning of the season that we lacked strength in depth and was shouted down by the lean squad champions on here. I think this campaign clearly shows we are pretty weak if you remove some of the key players or if they are unfit or coming back from injury. We look pretty useless up front without Lamela's pressing and passing. Kane is a shadow of himself and not match fit. The loss of Toby is pretty telling. Lastly the MF pivot or fulcrum isn't working like last season. Wanyama and Dembele are not complimenting each other. Plus you have the drop in form of Dele, Eriksen and Son.

Lets face it, they beat us at Wembley because they were better and they beat us again for the same reason. We are not CL ready by any means and bad luck has played its part as well with injuries. Poch has clearly passed the message onto to Levy. You want to compete at this level then you need to buy a better player.

Lets move on. We have a big game this weekend.

Hugo - 10 - enjoy him while you can, he won't be here long.

The rest didn't look like they could be arsed so I can't be arsed to rate them.

Lloris - 10 and MOM.

It's actually pointless rating the rest of the shambles. Tbh the buck stops with Poch for a lot of it as he set us up all wrong to begin with. I get that he was trying to keep us tight and compact by playing a diamond in midfield but once it became apparent that Monaco were just playing around us and destroying our full backs on the wings he had to change it. Monaco didn't do anything special tonight other than press us and then get the ball wide. Poch failed counter this and we never really got a foothold in the match because of it.

this isn't having a go at you directly, but this and many other post don't seem to realise the opposition sometimes play so much better than us, that our players and Poch decisions look wrong. Monaco totally deserved to win tonight, they made us look poor. the only difference tonight compared to the BL game was in the BL game we made so many errors we deserved to lose, last night we just played against a team that never let us play. they made 2 errors all night, 1 Son fucked up, the other we scored from.

shame is at 1st Kane was going to rush off and celebrate, then changed direction and rushed to get the ball back to get the game going quicker, and we got caught cold from it

Our press, closing down, marking, tracking runners, winning second balls, and just overall defensive shape was all woeful last night. Definitely things we could effect. Then you have Poch stood gormlessly on the side line watching things and not even trying to address issues like us getting barbequed down the flanks.

A lot of it was properly pathetic whoever the opposition was.

I think our press was the main reason for our good form last season . It should be seen as an offensive weapon . I expect a large number of goals were scored as a direct result of defensive errors forced by it . As I never tire of quoting from Toby 'Without our effort we are (just) a normal team' ....and this is what we now are...a normal team with a solid (when fit) defence .

With the intense press gone ,the technical limitations of our forward line are exposed .Poch must be bricking it that he can't seem to get the players up for the full-on press . Without it we are in serious trouble .

I'd say he was garbage until he changed the game. We have a lot of players who are badly off form and a couple of key players out injured. Others are lacking confidence and the overall picture is pretty bleak at the moment. We're getting away with some results we don't deserve but got shown up in the CL.
