Agree with @Bus-Conductor. Eriksen my MOTM by a mile. Yet get shitted on in every match thread.
Also in our full backs. Guess the people saying Rose was MOTM only watched the last 15 minutes, which we people tend to remember the latest we saw. Rose was very good the last 15 minutes but really not that good before Southampton had nothing to play for.
Would like to see Dier in CM soon as well he is classes above Wanyama when it comes to passing.

Agreed. Eriksen ran the show last night. It's a team performance with everyone playing their roles but Eriksen adds that vital piece of class/vision/skill that gets us going. Superb.

Despite some moaning about me not giving others a chance to do this thread, I see that no one has, despite the match ending hours ago. It seems that they would rather shut up than put up.

Went to vote for Janssen but couldn't see his name on the poll..

Southampton are a good side and were bound to have a strong spell at some point - it just so happened it was the first ten minutes. They were lifted by the goal - and was it just me, or did that look nailed-on the moment the free kick was lined up - then proceeded to run us ragged and were full of invention and confidence. Which makes our subsequent dominance of the match all the more impressive.

There were a lot of good performances: Wanyama, Rose, Eriksen, Dele all notable, but as pleasingly-usual it was the absence of poor performances and the effective team work rate that won the day. There was no hundred mile an hour high energy press, more a relentless suffocation of the opposition. I can´t recall them creating a chance in open play.

My three moments of the match:
- Dembele´s edge of the area reverse pass to set up the crucial first goal. More of this please. (And less of the "whoops, not concentrating" side-foot give aways centre pitch...)
- Sissoko´s perfectly, yes perfectly, weighted pass that led to the penalty. Much discussion about whether it was or wasn´t a foul, was in or out of the area etc - but the pass was good enough to leave Redmond with an impossible task.
- (My favourite) The way Eriksen lets the ball roll past hime before firing off the pass for Son´s goal. One of the most under rated skills in football - never take three touches where two would do; never take two where one would do. Just get the ball where it needs to go as fast as you can. That exactly what Eriksen did. Sure, he may possibly have been lucky with the deflection, but that is exactly the type of luck this kind of pass buys.
They created a good chance straight after scoring but apart from that little and agree with your general point

Not so sure of that... After the new year the bookings get reset. If he got booked at Watford he'd still be available for Chelsea. Petulance if you ask me

I think if he got a card against Watford he would have been out as the reset occurs if you haven't reached the limit for a suspension. I'm only guessing slightly

I voted for Vertonghen who was superb once again - partnered with Dier (who to me sometimes looks lost as a CB), he has had to really step up. If we are left with Dier and Wimmer against Watford or Chelsea, then we'll be taken apart.

Wanayama gets credit for somehow avoiding his 5th booking - he even made a forward pass.

Kane was dreadful, and I can only think he is injured and in power saving mode again. But an unfit Kane is better than the alternatives I guess, especially if he comes up with the odd goal.

Hard to choose between Dele, Eriksen and Rose. Giving it to Danny for the way he just drives the team forward. Love it when he makes runs forward through the centre

Lloris 6 - didn't really have that much to do. I didn't blame him for the goal, he also came off his line well a few times to claim dangerous crosses. But some of his clearances from passbacks were terrible and put us under pressure when there was really no need for it. I have to question why people kept looking for him as a passback out even after he'd kicked the ball straight to a Saints player on more than one occasion
Walker 7 - he played well enough today, had a tough battle on his hands and still put in his usual solid performance at both ends of the pitch
Dier 7 didn't really do anything wrong. He or no one seemed to be dealing with Van Dyke for the goal but I think all game Dier was solid
Verts 7 same as Dier really - needless yellow card when the game was won which could be costly against Watford
Rose 8 Best LB in the league, I don't watch a lot of non EPL football but if there's a better LB in the World then Rose currently he must be an outstanding player. Rose was fantastic again, his set up for Alli's first was fortunate but sublime for Alli's second.
Dembele 6 thought he was a bit sloppy at times and not really up to his usual standard. Got an early booking too which stifled him a little. I was surprised he didn't come off when Sissoko was hooked
Wanyama 7 Silly free kick that lead to their goal. Sloppy at times, too many backwards passes I felt. Equally though he did a lot of great work and one time he burst in to the box and beat a man with a deft touch only to be denied by a great challenge
Sissoko 8 I thought he was very good and shut a lot of people (including myself) up. Must be the 3rd of 4th game on the trot he's been effective with his power and pacey game. Yesterday he was at the heart of a lot of what we did well. Was unlucky not to have an assist or two to his credit and I was shocked when he was brought off as I thought he was one of our best players
Alli 8 What can you say? 2 excellent and improtant finishes. a great chipped through ball that should have produced something. He just showed his natural talent and quality all game, Sky Sports named him MOM and while he wasn't mine it's hard to disagree with them, the kid is a star already and will surely become a superstar
Eriksen 8 I thought he started poorly, was weak, lacked bottle and composure. But when we took control he took control (chicken and egg perhaps as most likely his stepping up was the reason we took control) anyway, when we were on top he ran the show like a pro. So unlucky not to have yet another goal with a strike that rattled the bar. He was everywhere, he made us tick
Kane 6 Great header, terrible penalty (unlucky with the turf), bit greedy at times, didn't look at his best for the most part but his header was a bullet and as the go ahead goal at a key time it was vital. Top strikers score them sort of goals and them sort of times. I'm so glad we have Kane, even sub par he's the man

Son 7 - he's a great impact sub, has goals in his and took his goal very well. Runs the line and looks to make things happen, as a sub he very nearly always does make something happen against tired legs too
Winks 6 didn't have much time but did what we needed him to do, showed composure and recycled possession with out putting a foot wrong really

Lloris.. Good communication with CB's when coming for crosses & was a secure presence.. 5mins of awful kicking ruined an otherwise good display..6.5
Walker.. not his best display compared to recent standard.. one of the players who had a few over Christmas...6.5
Dier.. first half looked like someone sweating the drink out of himself.. some bad passing in first half (not helped by lack of movement ahead of him.. second half I thought he played really well.. 6.5
Jan.. I thought he was magnificent last night.. my MOTM.. 9
Rose.. He has been brilliant last month & half.. compared to those recent performances which were top-notch.. he was below par & looked another one who had a few drinks over crimbo.. 6.5
Wanyama.. his positioning & movement still worries me & he slows the play down.. second half his athleticism (his major attribute) came to the fore.. decent.. 7
Dembele.. he is been targeted by opposition... whenever he gets the ball he more often than not has 2 or 3 players close him down.. that's a major compliment to how highly rated he is by opposition coaches.. loved his no look pass to Sissoko for 1st goal.. still not at his peak performance level.. good performance..7.5
Eriksen.. I thought he was very good last night.. always probing.. not everything he tried work however it's encouraging to see him getting back to been the main instigator of our attacking play ..8.5
Sissoko.. best movement of our attacking 4 & anticipated where the ball would break really well.. still looks like an attacking Mitchell Thomas at times however overall he had a good display..8
Alli.. looked sharper.. still some times you can see that promise of how good he can become & overindulgence.. needs to make decisions in possession quicker.. best performance in a long time.. 8
Kane.. Bullet of a header.. still doesn't look anywhere near his best to me..6.8

Have to say I never thought I'd do it, but.............I voted Sissoko :wideyed:
He was good, the only player who looked on for the first 20 minutes and got his assist. Played a perfect ball through to Alli for the penalty/red card. He's been much better since Poch's words about him in the media. A colleague of mine said that Euro 2016-Sissoko has finally arrived, after suffering four months of Newcastle-Sissoko. I hope he's right.

Eriksen was great yesterday and has been coming into good form since chelsea away. But prior to that he was awol most of the time.

The good thing is our AMs are now chipping in with some goals. If kane can hit some decent form in 2017 it will be a great finale.

Needed to win this and did so after a silly start. After two minutes was I bovered_. Just alittle.

Lloris.......7....Catching and punching excellent, but Guardiola wont be coming for him any time soon.
Walker.....7....Good overall but didn't have the impact he should in attack.
Dier.........7.....Finding his feet again. (On the end of your legs Eric.)
Rose........8....Late show but very good again.
Verts........7....Stupid booking. Petulant and pointless. Unlike Spurs.
Wanya.....7....Silly foul that led to the goal. Otherwise grew into the game.
Eriksen....8....Lovely player. Turning up regularly now
Dembele..6....Early card, didn't help. Getting slower and less effective.
Dele.........8....Our wild card. Destined for greatness, with us I hope.Turned the game.
Sissoko....7.....Four games in a row he's had a positive impact. Deleting all my earlier negative pòsts.
HK...........7.....Fine headed goal. Still working his sock off.

Son .......Good run and coolly taken goal..
Winks.....We scored two after he came on. Like the boy.Composed
Janssen..Came on.

I must have accidently deleted what I wrote about him on my phone before I posted it

Basically I gave him an 8

Praised his 2 assists - the first a bit fortunate but the second sublime

And said that he's the best LB in the league and while I don't watch a lot of non EPL football now day, if there is a better LB in the world than Rose then he must be exceptional

EDIT - actually it is there I just forgot to highlight his name
