Trippier and Lamela were tied for MOTM, IMO. Chose Trippier on the poll but actually Lamela takes it with the goal. So make that 19 for Lamela and 14 for Trippier.

Great goal from Lamela but I don't think he deserves motm. Two or three times he was in attacking positions in the second half and he failed to find the right pass. In fact, other than work very hard, I struggle to think of anything he did in a attacking sense after the goal in the 17th minute.

Poor performance. Their pitch was shite. They're like an update version of the old Stoke, better technique etc but are all about going long and playing really physical.

Trippier did well so I'm giving my MOM to him.

Lloris - 7 - Thought he maybe could have done better for their goal, made up for it with a superb save just on the line.
Trippier 7.5 - Best game in a Spurs shirt, did himself justice (MOTM)
Toby 5.5 - Really poor today, passing was slack which is unusual.
Vertonghen 5.5 - We just weren't with it when we had the ball at the back, sloppy, especially Jan.
Rose 5 - Bad game from Danny today, not helped by countless over/under hit passes coming his way.
Dier 5.5 - Poor, poor really poor for the goal, saved himself somewhat with the block, didn't look like he knew the system.
Alli 5 - Bad from Alli today, they'll be days like this for the young guy. Onwards and upwards.
Carroll 5.5 - Went missing again, the talent is clearly there, just needs to force himself into games more.
Dembele 6 - Shame he came off, yet again the only player in the middle that's happy to receive the ball under a bit of pressure.
Lamela - 7 - Tried to make things happen, scored a good goal and kept chasing.
Kane - 5.5 - One poster on this forum said he had a good game, I didn't see it, made the wrong choices and looked tired.

Son - 6 - Took his goal well, looked lively enough.
Eriksen - 6 - Kept the ball quite well despite everybody around him trying their best to give it away.
Chadli - NET

Rose, Dier - 5. Very poor.
Toby, Alli, Carroll - 5.5. Poor
Lloris, Jan - 6. Average.
Kane, Trippier, Dembele, Eriksen - 7. Pretty good.
Lamela - 7.5. The best of the lot although not outstanding.

Wont rate Son and Chadli although they did put in good shifts during their short cameos, especially Sonny.

That was our hardest game of the season and fair play to Watford who're an absolute nightmare to play against. I'm so chuffed about the win and in my opinion it came from our best player on the pitch today, Trippier, his crossing was absolutely sublime. I couldn't believe we weren't feeding the ball into him when Ake went off, it would have caused them so many problems. Trippier offers such a different form of attack in comparison to Walker, he isn't as athletic or as strong, but he can really whip a good cross and that is how we won this game.

Dier didn't look too comfortable in defence but I think that was more down to the physical Ighalo rather than his ability. Dier's tackle at the end really sums up just how hard our team works and I love every minute of it. Not our defences best performance either and we rode our luck, but you can always count on Hugo to pull out a wordly save and keep us in a game. I'm going to throw it out there and say that Hugo Lloris is the best keeper in the league and the best keeper I have every seen play for Spurs. In my opinion he is a club icon and if he stays with us for longer I'd love to see him reach legend status.

Dembele will be a huge loss and we could of definitely used his guile when they were down to 10 men. If anything we slowed down and wet so flat when playing against 10 men, I know it is hard playing against a yellow wall which they shoved in our face, but with Eriksen, Lamela and Ali on the pitch you would expect a lot more creativity. We were quite lucky that we held on when they were bringing the game to us with 10 men and it was such hard viewing, we looked scared and it echoed the Newcastle game.

Ali and Dier looked quite tired in my opinion and thankfully there is a bit of a break for them now. Rose was off colour and on reflection, I think Davies would have performed better. I like Danny Rose a lot, but he wasn't reflecting on the left what Trippier was doing on the right. I though Kane was quite poor and although he held the ball up a few times he wasn't a strong enough focal point in an attacking sense.

Lamela was bound to score a goal like that soon because he works so hard for the team and chases everything, another great performance from him and him and for me he is the first player on the team sheet every week.

The problem we face with Tom Carroll is that he is much more effective in the number 10 role than he is when playing deeper. I like Tom a lot and think he's a tidy player, but we have better options for the midfield than him and I don't think he should start against Everton.

We rode our luck a lot and it is slightly worrying that we clearly went stale against a team with 10 men however this game provided a great reminder to what Trippier was doing when he was at Burnley. Watford deserved a point if not a win, but winning games when you're playing awfully is great achievement and our second choice right back deserves a lot of credit for this.

Lloris - 5 - Catch the ball

Trippier - 7.5 - Excellent crossing and good under pressure. MOM
Alderweireld - 6 - A little too cute with his passing and defending at times
Dier - 5 - Extra point for that block, but was bullied by Ighalo.
Vertonghen - 6 - See Alderweireld
Rose - 5 - Trippier outshone him going forward and he struggled late on

Carroll - 6 - Neat but not a whole lot more
Alli - 6 - Poor first half but picked up a little bit in the second.

Lamela - 7.5 - Strong performance and a fantastic goal.
Eriksen - 5.5 - A couple of decent balls forward but had little impact overall

Kane - 6.5 - Held the ball up well but struggled to hurt their defence when we had the extra man.

-------------------

Dembele - Looked fine before having to go off
Son - Even before his goal I thought his running and movement caused their defence some problems
Chadli - Not enough time

MOTM was the Nigerian striker for Watford. Ive never seen a player assault a defense like that get away with it.

I would give everyone a 5 or 6...maybe a 6.5 for Trippier, Lamela and Son.

We were very lucky to come away with a win, after a truly awful spell preceding Son's goal. It was embarrassing to be outplayed by 10 men for 20 minutes, with us unable to get the ball under control and string a few passes together, but I'm going to put that down to fatigue. After so many draws when we have dominated, no one can really begrudge us a fortunate win (aside from Watford, obviously).

LLoris 3 Shocking, terrible. Could not hold the ball and awful kicking. Im his number one fan but really annoyed me today. This is why he's one of the top five best keepers in the world and not the best.

Trippier 6 You cant really be harsh on the kid today as he got a great assist at the end and he did put a couple of nice balls in, but defensevely still very very shaky.

Toby/Dier/Jan - 4 Troubled but that is normal against strikers in top top form. I felt Toby probably had his worst game for us. Might need a break.

Rose 6 Good. Impressed me technically.

Dembele - Came off early replaced by Eriksen who again failed to turn up.

Alli 5 Neat touches but not his best game

Carroll 5 Im not a fan, too fragile. i will hopefully be proved wrong.

Lamela 8 Great goal

Kane 7 Battled

Lloris - Could have done better for the goal but I have given him MOTM for that save, it was the difference between us winning and losing, that goes in and we take nothing from the game whatsoever - 9

Trippier - Did well in replacing Walker, solid defensively, good going forward and was the reason we scored the winner by providing some width and a nice cross - 8

Toby - Solid as a rock yet again, fantastic defender and has improved us immeasurably -8

Vertonghen - As above, solid, Toby has brought another level out of Verts, good going forward as well, lucky he didn't give a pen away but other than that a strong performance - 7

Rose - Looked a bit flat footed on the defensive side today, was good getting forward but lacked end product, not his best performance for us today but did enough to stop the threat they provided - 6

Dier - Nowhere near his best today but I put that down to him being slightly tired and not playing in his usual position that he has grown accustomed to this season, at fault for the goal and not dealing with it but I don't want to be too harsh on him as he has been one of our most consistent performers this season *Edit* Forgot about his fantastic block at the end, lifesaver. - 7

Alli - Influenced the game at times, was unlucky with his early booking which I think affected how he was playing as he was reluctant to get stuck in, pathetic yellow card from the refs point of view, was not even a foul. That being said he needs to control the ball better at times and take more time with his passing but he is a fantastic gem of a player and we are lucky to have him. - 6

Carroll - Thought Tommy did well, showed strength and put himself about, lots of nice one touch passing - 7

Dembele - Solid, alongside Lamela he has been by far our most improved player this season, he will be a huge miss for our next game if he is out and I think he is imperative if we stand any chance of having a go for the title - 8

Lamela - Pressing all over the pitch, fantastic ball control, great composure for the goal, does not stop working, excellent skill set, would have given him MOTM if it wasn't for that save from Lloris which I thought was worthy of any MOTM award. - 9

Eriksen - I admit Eriksen isn't at his best at the moment but he is one of those players like Modric who make everything look so effortless that it almost seems as if he is being lazy but his positional awareness is such that he is always where he needs to be, some nice neat little passes and some good footwork, I think he may be getting tired as he has covered a lot of ground according to statistics but I thought he did just enough when he came on to influence the game in our favour - 7

Kane - As always busts a gut, works his arse off and leaves everything out on the pitch, we are very fortunate to have this lad who loves spurs and I frankly love the boy, I thought he played excellent today, his positioning was fantastic and I think we take for granted what he does for this team, leads by example. - 8

Chadli - net

Son - Super sub, been waiting to see his quality shine through again and the second he came on he was at it instantly, fortunate to not be given offside but that's the way it goes, if I had a pound for everytime we have been fucked by offside goals I would own spurs! Great finish from the lad and hopefully will boost his confidence as he has been struggling lately after that injury.

Poch - Thought his selection was excellent today, Watford probably expected us to line up identical to how we did against Norwich and I think our selection today threw their game plan way off, subs were as I expected really and he didn't stop shouting at the players trying to get them over the line, which clearly worked in the end.

I don't think we were at our best today but what matters is we got the 3 points, for years now we have been talked about as the "Soft touch" in this league, now we sit here in third with the best defensive record, the best goal difference and have only lost twice the entire season, we have a genuine shot at winning it this year and the longer we keep flying under the radar and winning the better.

Scrappy points or stylish points, they all count and consistency is all that matters, one game at a time and ignore the media hype/hatred and we can do this.

Lloris - 8 -Gets an 8 for the amazing save. Perfect 10 if he dives for and smothers the Ighalo goal
Trippier - 8 -Put in good crosses all game. I don't think his teammates look for him enough. Defending and getting up in the attack were the best I have seen from him thus far.
Alderweireld - 8 -Commanding as always. Silly yellow card, however, but his first one of the season :woot:
Vertonghen - 8 -Thought he played very well considering the difficulty of the opposition
Rose - 6 -Average at best today.
Dier - 8 -Amazing play towards the end of the match with the blocks and tackles
Dembele - 9 before going off - I was thoroughly impressed with his passing before he went off and he brought his usual dominance.
Lamela - 8 -Great goal, brought his lunch pail for another hard day at the office. Would have gotten higher if he had done better with two counters we had.
Carroll - 7 -Was always thinking next pass, next move, one step ahead
Alli - 7 -Great tackle to spring the first goal, but I thought his touch and passing let him down at times.
Kane - 9 MOTM -The hardest working man out there. His quality was apparent for all to see with his passing and hard work in the press. Link up play was so good
Eriksen - 7 -Thought he played well, finding space and keeping us ticking. Seemed to create things for us.
Son - 8 -Earned this rating for his goal and great play for the limited amount of time on the pitch. A real game changer and difference maker
Chadli - NET

Thoughts:
  • We looked like the 10 men team, not Watford. They have a lot of quality and heart.
  • I personally thought Ighalo fouled Dier on his goal with a hand in his face, then his yellow for a hand in Carroll's face should have been red for intentional hand to me.
  • Such a gutsy and great win.

Lol we won this right? Away to an on form team? With over 60% possession.....

It's mildly surprising people giving 4/10 to our defence after winning away on a pitch that looked like a school rugby field.

I think you're being very generous with the ratings, great won but there were few good performances given the standards set this season.

Like I have said before we have a lot of want a be pundits in our ranks. I thought we would be happier. This was a very tough game.
