Well we are in the last sixteen and I believe were have now scored more goals in the Europa / UEFA Cup than any other club.

We were not at our best but did enough to win convincingly while keeping a clean sheet.

Glad to see the young ones given more than 5 minutes

I believe the Referee was whistlehappy as genuine and good tackles were blown as fouls

Doherty........... :(

SlotBadger: I think Lamela has been involved in more moments of quality overall, but Dele has to be MOTM for his brilliant goal and excellent assist (now two assists).

I agree with SlotBadger's assessment for MOTM

Dele and Lamela ran the show tonight. Lovely cameo from Scarlett as well, kid's got such a high ceiling.

I think the last striker to breakthrough with such a high ceiling was Peter crouch, although possibly for different reasons.

First time I've been happy to see Bale on the bench. Should def. be starting on the weekend.

... and what a finish!

I'd also give Jose a 9. Considering the manager gets so much flak when we lose, he should be likewise given due credit for a great victory with exciting, attacking football, good defending, solid progression and 2 world class goals from Bale and Dele.

Dele had his mojo back tonight. Lamela looked really dangerous. Winks is obviously trying to shoot more - please stop, Harry. Doherty still looks out of his depth even though he improved a bit as the game went on. Bale is back. Didn't understand why Lucas came on. The youngsters looked raw, but it was great to see them. Scarlett is very lively, Nile John looked interesting. He's very slight but a CM. He was good though, and the right back showed some nice technique.

Dele was pure class tonight. MoM by leaps and bounds.

But it's so hard to tell whether he's a 'flat track bully' at the moment, or he's really finding his form+confidence. The only well to know for sure, is if he starts a PL game and can replicate that level of class.

Very few things to moan about, in terms of overall performance, as everyone did well. Winks and Sissoko controlled the midfield pretty easily. Davies and Toby were both solid. Dier did okay in patches, but also made a few mistakes they could have scored from. Including one in the first half where he completely lost his bearings. Meanwhile, Doherty was in-and-out of the game. Some good moments, and some moments where he should have done better.

Was delighted to see a smile on Vini's face. That's important.

Lamela, like Dele - again, hard to say if he is just really good against teams like this. Or, is he starting to round into some top form. Of late, he has been very good.

Stevie B had one of his better games. Feel like he either needs a goal or a quality assist to unlock his full confidence.

Bale... I was worried about him coming on. Esp after they bought on the rotund chap, who had 'goon' written all over him. Was afraid their players might resort to the pain game. And Bale would be public enemy, number 1. Thankfully they didn't do that, and Bale again looked like a class above everyone on the field.

I loved the way he tried to set up Scarlett in the last ten minutes. Under normal circumstances I think he would have taken the shot. But that pass, in and of itself, shows that he cares. That the team, the results and his teammates mean something to him. He has to start vs Burnley.

Jose picked the right players for the opposition and clearly instructed them to finish the game in the 1st half. So, mission accomplished.

That also means next game we will have fully rested: Reg, Lloris, Tanguy, PEH, Sonny, Kane, Dav, Tanganga, Aurier. And with Lucas and Bale coming on late, they're also pretty well rested. (BTW, this is all assuming Aurier is fit to play this weekend).

Despite the wayward shots, Winks was excellent today. Consistently good and positive passing and positioning. Lamela also drove the match forward and closed down vigorously. But obviously Dele is MotM for the virtuosity and productiveness.

Let’s not forget that Doherty was heavily involved in Dele’s goal and got an assist. But other than that, he still seems to be a player devoid of real creativity or inspiration. He’s not incompetent, he’s just mediocre.

Some people have criticised the defence. I thought we defended with organisation and teamwork. The opposition got a few chances. That usually happens. It’s not a sign that the defence is malfunctioning that there are chances.

Of late? Seriously have you been watching him? To put this label as Lamela only being able to play well against lesser teams tells me you do not seem to know what you are talking about. It is a travesty for you to say this, as we have seen over the seasons Lamela plays well against the big teams, more recently where he has taken teams like Arsenal Man Utd Chelsea and Man City by the scruff of the neck. Man City most love to see the back of him where he has had MOTM performances against them over the years. What is hampering Lamela is his knack for picking up injuries, resulting in long lay offs. A fit and in form Lamela should always be in our first eleven un my opinion.

In Dele’s previous best spells, we would all say he did nothing but score the winner. I thought he was like that tonight, nothing but two glorious assists, oh and an overhead bicycle to open the scoring? ....but apart from that.

It was great to see him start in the roaming, central role.

I enjoyed seeing Bale’s confidence carry on too.

From day 1, I’ve been a Vini fan, and not understood how many on here have slammed him so hard. First season, non-English speaking etc. 11 goals so far this season, 3 assists and all that in a total of about 15mins of game time.

Lamela’s performance was so good tonight, he was unplayable at times. My motm.

Well done Scarlet on working an assist, and good on Jose for playing the kids.

Lamela has been the agent of chaos that Jose said in his last few games - tonight, he elevated himself to Modric level, making it near impossible for Wolfsberger to dispossess him while pushing the ball upfield. For me he's a starter, but I'm good with him coming on as a game changer if his form keeps up!

Dele was sublime tonight, he actually reminded me in many ways of peak Eriksen.

MOTM by a mile. I hope this is the start of a new successful chapter with the club for him.

With a fully fit and in-form Son, Bale and Dele, I'm feeling a lot better about our Carabao Cup final prospects... Sure, they'll come at us with everything they got, but if history's taught us anything City don't recover too great against us if we strike first and strike hard - Time to get Cobra Kai on their asses!

First off... don't patronize me. If you can't muster the ability to be respectful, than keep your opinion to yourself. I've got no time for that crap.

Secondly, I was referring to this season in general. Sorry if I wasn't clearer about that. My views on Lamela has always been generally positive over the years. And like you, I lament his struggles with injuries.

This season, like a lot of our players, he has had some very good games and some not very good games. But off the top of my head I was wondering out loud if he has done better against these types of teams.

We are also in agreement that if firing on all cylinders he is a plus for our team, not a detriment.

Apologies for not being more precise in my language.

And just for the record... I'd like to think I have somewhat of an idea of what I'll talking about. At least 22% of the time.

It would seem I'm having a 78% day. ?

Dier makes two huge mistakes today. All out at sea for one ball over the top. That could have been given as a red card foul. And minutes later he loses his man for a cross that if that is Ashley Barnes on the weekend it’s a goal. He needs to be moved to a utility sub. Play Rodon instead.
