Bet he's on a serious comedown today. Hot and cold sweats, the shivers, the shits. Come on Ray, lay off the class A son.

Clearly an excellent commentator who knows a hell of a lot about the game.

It explains a lot that so many thought he was awful, perhaps that's why so many people chat tactical shit on here all week?

I guess you have to ask yourself, who knows more about the game? The idiots calling him a 'Chelsea caaaaaaaaaaaant' or the man himself who has played and coached at the highest levels, and is extremely well-regarded within the game?

Exactly.

I thought he was doing fine up until he said we don't mind giving away corners because we defended them well all game. I'll blame the heat for his temporary memory loss.

Read an hilarious blog in the Guardian today. Absolutely ripped Wilkins to shreds.

Lucky the journo's not a member on here or else he'd be getting neg repped for daring to suggest that Ray might not actually be a very good commentator.

"Tottenham can deal with corners all night long"

Bridesmaid, not Bride, IMHO.

What I did notice from his commentary was how he continuouosly referred to THFC as 'we' - did anyone else pick up on that? And is it something he always uses for English clubs?

He actually qualified that at one point and said he was using 'we' as a refence to the English team.

The corner defence thing is also perfectly legitimate - why on earth should we have trouble defending corners? We should, but it turns out that our defending for one of them was shit. That's not Wilkin's fault. He also pointed out that Crouch could cause them some problems - is it Ray's fault Crouch went completely mental for ten minutes?

I'm getting so tired of pointing blindingly obvious stuff out again. I am starting to remember why I stopped posting in Spurs chat altogether. It's almost impossible to fight against the tide of moronic comments, it never ends.

"If you score more goals then the opposition you have a good chance to win the game."

So he didn't actually say that, but I could hear him saying it.

He said around the 80 minute mark "Spurs can deal with corners all night long" this was after we'd already effectively conceded two from corners.

Pretty much the whole of the footballing fraternity is laughing Ray's performance from Tuesday. You should be thankful, he was so bad he's actually taken some of the heat off us.

As for moaning about 'moronic comments' I think an outsider would quickly come to the conclusion that the guy trying to defend Wilkins is infact the moron, but hey, I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

Here's a blog from the Telegraph mocking Wilkins.

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/sport/...wilkins-but-at-least-hes-staying-on-his-feet/

Some choice cuts

"Maybe the occasion got the better of him. Or the intensity of the crowd clouded his thinking. Perhaps it was simply too much sun.
Whatever the reason he had a shocker. He had no one to blame but himself, of course, even if his game defining lack of judgement was out of character. Just a bad day at the office for an Englishman abroad, then, when it mattered most.
I’m talking of course about Raymond Colin Wilkins MBE, on summarising duty for Sky Sports, whose performance last night achieved the almost unimaginable of being worse than any Tottenham player on the pitch. Peter Crouch included."

"By the end of the match he sounded like one of those men who stand on the corner of high streets imploring Saturday shoppers to repent and find the love of Jesus Christ, convinced beyond certainty of their own wisdom, but screaming out forlornly into an uncaring ether, forever to be ignored, even quietly mocked."

"As message boards and Twitter buzzed with both concern and derision for Ray, someone even tried to start a campaign to bring back Andy Gray, suggesting that Ray’s crazed dementia may have been such that it was starting to become contagious."

How ironic that I've just been neg repped again for suggesting that maybe Wilkins wasn't that good. Still at least I'm in good company.

Opinions are always divided on commentators, but your argument is basically that he chats shit, when he clearly doesn't. Just like Pleat, one of the most knowledgeable co commentators around.

Listening to Wilkins the other night was like "A beginner's guide to football". But it was funny nonetheless.

So what do you make of this quote?

"I’m talking of course about Raymond Colin Wilkins MBE, on summarising duty for Sky Sports, whose performance last night achieved the almost unimaginable of being worse than any Tottenham player on the pitch. Peter Crouch included."

I didn't write that. Someone else did. So will you at least admit that maybe it's not everyone else who is wrong, maybe it's you.

As I said (and you again seem to ignore) opinion will always be devided. There are others in this thread that agree with me, so pipe down and if your going to debate a point, at least READ what others have written.

I can see why people don't like Wilkins as he is no nonsense and very raw, but I happen to like his style.
