Clearly an excellent commentator who knows a hell of a lot about the game.
It explains a lot that so many thought he was awful, perhaps that's why so many people chat tactical shit on here all week?
I guess you have to ask yourself, who knows more about the game? The idiots calling him a 'Chelsea caaaaaaaaaaaant' or the man himself who has played and coached at the highest levels, and is extremely well-regarded within the game?
I thought he was doing fine up until he said we don't mind giving away corners because we defended them well all game. I'll blame the heat for his temporary memory loss.
Personally I'd like to hear Gazza commentating on one of games.
Bridesmaid, not Bride, IMHO.
What I did notice from his commentary was how he continuouosly referred to THFC as 'we' - did anyone else pick up on that? And is it something he always uses for English clubs?
WEE...he was taking the piss...
He actually qualified that at one point and said he was using 'we' as a refence to the English team.
The corner defence thing is also perfectly legitimate - why on earth should we have trouble defending corners? We should, but it turns out that our defending for one of them was shit. That's not Wilkin's fault. He also pointed out that Crouch could cause them some problems - is it Ray's fault Crouch went completely mental for ten minutes?
I'm getting so tired of pointing blindingly obvious stuff out again. I am starting to remember why I stopped posting in Spurs chat altogether. It's almost impossible to fight against the tide of moronic comments, it never ends.
"If you score more goals then the opposition you have a good chance to win the game."
So he didn't actually say that, but I could hear him saying it.
Opinions are always divided on commentators, but your argument is basically that he chats shit, when he clearly doesn't. Just like Pleat, one of the most knowledgeable co commentators around.
So what do you make of this quote?
"I’m talking of course about Raymond Colin Wilkins MBE, on summarising duty for Sky Sports, whose performance last night achieved the almost unimaginable of being worse than any Tottenham player on the pitch. Peter Crouch included."
I didn't write that. Someone else did. So will you at least admit that maybe it's not everyone else who is wrong, maybe it's you.
