Well last nights game did not fill me with any confidence. With another game tonight, I just hope we don't get any injuries. This is no better than being in the Europa Cup, only its Wednesday and Saturday....away. I would like to think that MoPo will play at least half the game with the team he proposes to put out on Saturday.

The more I think about it, I think I've changed my mind about the worth of this friendly.

Playing a 'prestige' club like Real Madrid, especially with two of our ex players gracing the team, can only reinforce Spurs' inferiority complex a few days before the season starts.

The situation reminds me of when Les Ferdinand said he used to big up Dembele by telling him he'd be the 'next' spurs player to sign for Real Madrid. Is there a better way to entrench mediocrity at Spurs than by saying "play well as an individual and you can leave for a proper club"?

I hate to say it, but seeing Bale and Modric again will surely have reminded our players of the merits of leaving a perennially average team.

Worry about that if they get to Bale or Modric's level....if they do that means we are doing something right.

I like Vorm he is calm and distributes well.
Made two brilliant saves before a Bale dippy twister eluded him.
He is second choice and is well good enough.
Give the boy a little credit.
I also thought that while he was far from the main culprit for the first go he started to come for the ball and then stuttered leaving himself in no man's land and the header easily evaded him as a result

He should have either came and tried to punch the ball clear or stayed and tried to make an unlikely save

But aside from those two incidents he had a decent game and made two or three good stops - he is for sure about as good of a back up keeper as a club like us can expect to keep right now I'd say

Whilst you can't read too much into pre season games there were worrying signs that the problems of last season are still very much in evidence, defence all over the place, constantly poor positioned when being attacked, stopping tracking players making runs and standing around, aerially no real strength, midfield far too weak defensively, offering no vision or creativity, Bentaleb offering his full repertoire of backward passes underlining our lack of players with the ability to see and play the early forward pass to give our attackers a bit of time and space and opportunity to run at defences before they are fully organised
The one bright spot was Alli, he looks to want to get forward whenever possible and he was unafraid to try. I just hope we don't try and push him too quick but on yesterday's evidence he looked our best midfielder by some way. Pity we don't have a quality experienced mid for him to play alongside and help him develop

Why is everybody so negative?

Before the game you were all wetting your pants that we'll get smashed by 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. goals. Yet as it turns out, our very young side, only lost 2-0 to one of the best teams in the world, largely due to a handful of errors. Before the game people were expecting us to get thrashed. But now post game, everyone is speaking as they expected us to repeatedly cut Madrid open.

It doesn't make any sense.

I actually thought last night was relatively positive. None of the players were phased with being on the same pitch as Madrid. We looked relatively cohesive and caused Madrid a handful of problems. Sure there is work to do and we want to improve, but let's remember the context right? A friendly, against one of the best teams in the world. And we lost 2 goals, not 8.

I am largely looking forward to the new season, but I'm not looking forward to having to read the drivel that's gonna get spouted by the entitlement-brigade on here.

Because its the matchday thread. It seems you need a negative attitude topost in it.

I thought the team played well. Lamela should of put us 1 up, but it was his 1st preseason game. Vorm made afew good saves. Wimmer looks calm and collected. Alli impresses me everytime I see him and I caught quite afew mk dons games last season. I think he'll be banging on englands door by the end of the season.

Losing 2 0 to a strong Real Madrid squad isnt the end of the world, City lost to them 4 0

They played a lot of youngsters and looked far behind us in match fitness. That's not exactly encouraging. Also for all our possession we had very few chances which is an increasing cause for concern.

On the plus-side, playing teams with the quality of madrid exposes any player weaknesses in a way that playing average teams won't. Danny Rose for example will probably be focusing a bit harder on his defensive tracking and positioning when we kick off against United after being at fault for reals first goal. Another side might not have had that quality of movement and crossing to make that goal and wake him up.

The score might sound good but we played against a top team that didn't bother to break out of first gear, they strolled it, so the context in terms of the score is not really relevant, what is relevant so close to the start of the season was our performance and it was poor and showed all the weaknesses that were evident in our game in so many matches last season

I always look forward to a new season and hope we can come good but I never look forward to reading glowing positives from the heads in the sand brigade who choose to ignore the very real weaknesses that are evident in our game

What's funny is their fans are really positive about their season. We are our own worst enemy at times.

thats because they know they have the talent in their squad proven talent .... results pretty meaningless at this stage although winning is a good habit.
Simply put we don't have the requisite talent to improve from last season which in effect means we are highly likely to go backwards

I don't follow that view. We are building and the future is bright. We have exceeded my expectations in recent years compared to what is above us. Chin up

Indeed. And our barnstorming results in 2008-09 pre season (BT Norwich 5-1, BT Leyton Orient 5-1, BT Celtic 2-0, BT Borussia Dortmund 3-0, BT AS Roma 5-0) Should have taught all Spurs fans to take pre-season results with mountains of salt.

Such a difficult season to call:

Poch's masterplan comes together and we rip up the league…

The weaknesses in Poch's tactics are found out and we have a new one ripped with alarming regularity..

We continue to put in lacklustre performances but chug along in sixth or thereabout based on our relative position in the resource packing order…

Poch acknowledged our lack of cutting edge in the final third in his post match interview so that will be worked on & perhaps new signings will help. At least the boss sees what is wrong which is not always the case.

Can't read much into a game like this. Ali definitely a positive though.

Quite honestly a blind man listening to it on the radio would figure out what the problems are.

Tell you one thing, rose and walker looked pretty lively. Walker looks like he's got his motor back, could have a couple really quality fullbacks if they kick on. Walker even put the ball on a platter for Lamela, which was nice to see. I swear Lamela falls so much when he shoots, has to be a jitter thing, maybe I'm wrong, he looks like he's due for a big season as well.

I.doubt anyone cares about the results of.pre season. It's just the season starts in 3 days and we still look completely bereft of ideas in the final 3rd as we did all.Last season.

It's fairly natural to think we're in for another season of bland football.
If we got.thrashed by Madrid but there was actually a hint of movement and slick play I doubt they'd be as much complaint

Unfortunately it was an isolated Harry Kane trying to get on the end of scraps and mistakes and a couple of hopeless crosses and punts and eriksen long rangers

But perhaps it's all an illusion and on Saturday when we attack it will be brilliant. Great movement of the front 3 and the.midfield duo playing some cutting passes. I hope so and I don't have to hear about how the great United or back etc etc

A winner rating doesn't do this post justice.
