Can anyone confirm whether Pav and Cor will be cup tied for the entire comp, or can we register them in Jan?

17.07 Excluding the three rounds of the UEFA Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Super
Cup, and subject to paragraph 17.18 below, a player may not play UEFA
club competition matches for more than one competing club in the course of
the same season. A substitute player who is not fielded is entitled to play for
another club competing in the same season’s UEFA club competitions,
provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in accordance
with the present Regulations.

17.17 For all matches from the start of the round of 32, a club may register a
maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the
current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February
2009 at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.
17.18 One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fielded:
−
in the same competition for another club,

−
for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former
club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current

season.

Taken from Uefa site. It sounds like we can register pavlyuchenko if spartak dont reach the last 32 because did he not play in the champions league qualifier not the uefa? but if spartak stay in then it would not work. but for corluka i am not sure. this confuses me anyway though because i thought i heard that it was from the 3rd round of qualifiers of champs league that you became ineligble, this makes it sound like all of them count.

 You saved me a lot of typing there Mr one in a million. Its pretty much exactly how i see it. Particularly on the defence front. i think the goal we conceded against chelsea was a mix of a dodgy clearance from bent and a big slice of bad luck. apart from that i thought we defended magnificently against the team i think will win the league. we have a goalkeeper who actually breeds confidence when a cross comes into the box and amid the disappointment re: strikers i think people are losing how much of a player Corluka is.

I think modric would only be the keane type player if we play with one man up front and him relieved of his defensive duties.

My initial thought was to eventually have Modric in the heart of midfield alongside a defensive midfielder. But i think Jenas will play that role and we push Modric further upfield. People will look at the Chelsea game and say that Bent was left far too isolated in that game. But the fact is, that was away to Chelsea. He wont be isolated as often as that and we now have Pavyluchenko and Campbell aswell. But i think our midfield can dominate a lot of teams this season.

And you're right about Corluka. What a coup that is. He really does look like a top class player. Its a real shame that the Berbatov sale seems to have put a dampener on the arrival of Corluka and the official announcement of Pavyluchenko. But people seem to forget. We haven't had Berbatov all pre-season really and he scored no goals since last season. Hopefully Bent gets his confidence after the goal against Chelsea. He really is capable of 20goals per season. As is Pavyluchenko if he settles in quickly.

And on another positive note. I still think we have better strikers than Everton, Villa and Portsmouth.

Exactly what i was thinking when glenn hoddle was moaning about his isolation. it just wont happen like that against other teams.

And on your final point, I did spend about 20 mins comparing their entire teams to compare them to ours to put things into perspective, just for some clever sod to shut the ITK discussion thread! My point being that if our players play to the level expected we should finish above those teams.

My hope is that if our players exceed expectations we may have a chance at fourth spot. Because if we are realistic the only way fourth is possible is if we perform beyond expectations and liverpool/arsenal perform below expectations. And although there is still a gap, this is a distinct possibility. By all accounts Arsenal have had a poor transfer window, they may have signed nasri but they are crying out for a def mid as much as we are. they also looked very poor away at fulham! Liverpool look like they may have a spell without both gerrard and torres, without whom i see them as very ordinary. I think secretly arsenal and liverpool fans are concerned regarding their teams position at the moment.

I feel like I did when I was on the receiving end of a two footed challenge that ended my footie playing at a relatively high level and put me in and out of hospital for six months.

Immediately afterwards - immense pain, some degree of bitterness and anger, with some concern as to what the future will bring.

The next few days (hopefully) - realisation that life has to go on, but still thinking about what could have been.

After a few months - well, it wasn't meant to be, everything happens for a reason, it's gonna be for the best.

For the rest of my life - remembering fondly the memories of what I had at the time, the pain has generally subsided though the scar will be there for life, the occasional dull ache (presumably when Berba wins a trophy) but utlimately I've not complaints as to how things have turned out.

That's what I hope will happen. Alternatively we could end up the equivalent of a crack addict. Don't let this happen Levy/Ramos et al.

Had to highlight this as a beautiful piece of writing. Personal and painful, but really well written. I feel like an English teacher, is it a simile or extended metaphor. F*ck knows but its gr8.

Can I also thank all the positives, who point out that our squad is much stronger than a year ago and highlight all the good things rather than what might have been.,
I raise my half full glass to you all.
