Thought it an idea to start a thread to remember a legend of the past and contain talk about that one player with memories and respect.

I'm starting with Darren Anderton. My favorite player as a kid. Will always remember him for almost single handedly helping us avoid relegation at one point under Ossie with outstanding contributions. Also seeing him make his England Debut. I see elements of his game in Gareth Bale, with his lanky strides and no-frills creative play. His crossing was superb, and never got the recognition he deserved with Beckham-mania fully in effect at the time.

I can remember him now, cantering in slow-motion through a glorious country meadow, his floppy hair flapping gently in the breeze. The sunlight blazing down, illuminating his freckles. The music from Black Beauty playing softly in the background. Then he pulls up with a hamstring injury.

At his best Anderton was very effective and linked up well with sherringham. Its a pity that he had so many injuries. He would have won many more caps and have generally got more recognition.

Was a really good player, when he played.
My misses had a huge crush on him.
I'll always remember one goal, against Leeds. He must have been 30yds out, kinda right-centre, and BAM.
I had to light a ciggy and go 'aaaaah' after that goal.

Here it is for those that don't remember it. Sorry, don't know how to embed it.

Or you could click on Features (Located on the menu bar to the top of your screen) and select Legends of the Lane, where this is already nicely done and open for suggestions and or decent articles to be considered for addition to that section.

Always remember the corner set up between him and teddy. Can't believe how many times we pulled it off.

Think we should be trying a similar thing now we have bentley...

I loved Dazza, one of my all time faves.I think his injury record was not as bad as you think,im sure i read he averaged 30 odd games a season for us while he was here.My favourite football memory of him was scoring his first goal, when we beat Southampton 4-2 at the Lane,we scored 4 goals in 4 minutes,it was amazing. After initially struggling he was a different player after that game.

My favourite non football moment was when Alistair McGowan did an impression of him on one of those mid 90s football videos where he does the voiceovers..he did Dazza in a really posh voice, and it was fkin hilarious!!

Living in (and watching) Bournemouth, I'd say he is still a great player. Rarely gives the ball away and picks out half a dozen excellent passes every match. He's certainly not playing for Bournemouth for the money. Top, top, man.

Well he's had the chance to rest a lot throughout his career!

That Soton 4-2 game was on of my favourite days at the Lane!

Don't forget he turned down a transfer to Man U to stay with us

Good ol' Shaggy. Great player, fantastic crosser, but we know why he didn't play more. Sir Alan Sugar once said "Darren Anderton's had so many x-rays he's got radition poisoning!".

Always remember two goals of his. Putting is 1-0 up inside four minutes on my first visit to the Library (we lost 2-1) and of course that goal against Leeds. Screamer!

When I saw the thread title I thought he had died recently.

Anyway, Dazza was a great player for the club and would have become a legend for us and probably a more fondly remembered England international if it weren't for his numerous injuries. At the time his passing and technique was second to none in the league. And who can forgot the Anderton - Sheringham corners? It's a shame that like Ginola he was stuck in a poor Tottenham side, so he never really achieved what he deserved to at the club.

Isn't he still in the top five for the most assists in the Premier League?

I will say what I have said in other threads, to call Darren Anderton a legend is to cheapen the title Spurs Legend.

A good player sure, with us a long time sure, I just feel that the Mantle of Tottenham legend should be recieved for those who reach the highest levels whilst playing for us.
