Really enjoyed the Olympics, some truly great sporting moments and excellence. What sports would you like to see added or dropped for Tokyo??

Personally I think football should be dropped and possibly the golf, winning the Olympics should be the pinnacle in your sport not just another competition. Not convinced by the merits of the dancing horses either.

Apparently they're going to have bloody baseball in the Tokyo

Personally I don't think that golf, tennis or football should be in the Olympics.
Rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining and synchronised swimming aren't even sports as far as I'm concerned and have no place there at all.
3 day eventing has been an Olympic event forever and there's no chance of them dropping it, but dressage is also not a sport.

Think you're being harsh on Trampolining- if that shouldn't count as a Sport, then the whole of Gymnastics shouldn't be.

He won the Australian Open that year (after having reached the Final of the 2007 US Open), before the Olympics. Also, in 2012, he lost the Bronze Medal match- hardly 'shit'. In fact, this Olympics is the only time he's performed poorly.

Your theory, if I understand it correctly, that Djokovic dopes all the time apart from before the Olympics (as he may get caught), is laughable.

Should you even be up this late?

For a guy who has won everything and dominates the game he just can't win the Olympics and as I have explained it is no coincidence.

Let me explain how it works because I think you think that if you took the same drugs you would win the US Open. It doesn't work like this. You have to be good. The drugs just give you the advantage of winning.

Without them you will probably come third. Oh the irony!

My theory, as you like to put it, is shared by many and I will just repeat myself over and over until you understand.

Federer hasn't won the Men's Singles in the Olympics as well.

Maybe. There are aspects of the gymnastics which I don't think are sporty either- all that dancing about on the floor for a start. The apparatus things take strength, balance, technique, agility etc, and the tumbling on the floor I get as well, but being marked on whether you can flounce about between somersaulting...nah, not so much, for me.

Doing somersaults while bouncing up and down...again, I can see it takes technique, but it's more like circus acrobatics than sport to my mind.

As you can tell, I don't really know much about either event, but yeah, I see that gymnastics is a sport but not so sure that trampolining is.

Our medal tally really is remarkable and to think that we could've/should've got medals in the following:

Gemili in the 200m - finished 4th by a millimetre
Men's 4x400m- Potentially unfair disqualification, with a strong team.
Tom Daley
Richard Kruse came very close in the Fencing- narrowly lost in the Bronze Medal match
7(!) 4th placed finishes in the Swimming, some of them were very close
The Murrays' were the 2nd seeds in the Doubles, and probably should've performed better (but Andy did have the Singles to think about)

Even then I've missed out Callum Skinner who would've expected a medal in the Keirin, Lizzie Armistead, and Liam Phillips (strong medal hope in the BMX, but crashed).

I know it's probably the same for every country, but I think it's remarkable we finished 2nd in the medal table with our record haul, above countries with much vaster populations (India and China both have a population higher than 1 billion FFS), but still could've got quite a few more.

India only won two medals. Two!

Would be interesting the see the medal to money spent ratio.

The funding would be interesting to see.

I know the UK supposedly put in something like £300m to fund the athletes. I don't know that India puts much money into funding the Olympic sports, their number of athletes was a record number and it was still about 1/3 the size of the UK's delegation.

The most staggering number i have seen however is Jamaica. In 2012 Jamaica spent a reported $614m on sports. :wideyed:
How the hell did they manage that?

Yeah, you're right... that's no coincidence. The Olympics, unlike every other tennis tournament, only take place every four fucking years, that means that it's considerably way harder for Djokovic (and every other tennis) to win an Olympic gold medal than to win any other tennis tournament.

And BTW, he actually won the Rogers cup (a master 1000) like a week before Rio. How does that fits in your theory that he had stopped getting juiced or whatever for the Olympic games and that reflected in him performing poorly there? Surely, if he was being extra careful as you suggest, then he wouldn't have risked it for the Rogers cup either considering that it took place so close to Rio.

As a casual surfer, I can assure you that to even do the sport well recreationally, takes an enormous amount of strength, stamina and fitness. To do what these professional guys do, like Kelly Slater or Laird Hamilton, you have to be pretty much superhuman.

I have absolutely no problem with Surfing being part of the Summer Olympiad.

Baseball... I'd say that's a trial event because it's Japan's national game.

Golf is an interesting one because I was dead against it being an Olympic sport before this games, but I think it was one of the more competitive and interesting finishes, and the big players who did go out there really put a lot of effort into it. I think it's got the potential to be an event that does rival the majors which is what should be the case for an Olympic Sport.

The same is true of tennis, where it's clear the players do think of it as a major event that is on a par with the majors so I can see why it's in there.

Football is the one where it's clear it doesn't mean as much to the players as other tournaments. I think that would be the first to go for me.

Baseball and basketball are tricky ones because there's only one team who will win it, but technically it is the pinnacle of the sport on an international basis.

And leave the dancing horses alone...GB are fucking awesome at that!

I think there really should be some form of eating as many hot dogs contest, i am surprised sports like squash isnt in the olympics. Polo would be fun. Im surprised the t20 cricket isn't in if the football is in. In all honesty i didnt watch any football.

Ive always preferred the winter olympics, love ice hockey amongst others.
