Robbie Keane Interview 29th May

I've made no decision. I don't have sufficient evidence. Neither does anyone else on SC.

But ten days ago, according to BEN, Keane was happy to stay if we said no to Liverpool. You believe everything BEN says, don't you? The same way you believe everything Levy says? Noodles said pretty much the same, behind his usual snide. According to Steff's contacts at the Lane, that was indeed the case—and then something happened to change his attitude.

It would be interesting to know what that something was. Whether we'll ever find out is a different matter.

I will expect some extra blue next to BEN and Noodles names then if you have deemed them correct.

Blue and red only get attributed to info that can be clearly proven—for example, saying we've signed a player. If we have, it's blue, if we haven't, it's red. It's perfectly simple.

Although not simple enough for some, it seems.

Since he said
"I'm having a summer off without people ringing saying 'Are you going here, are you going there?'
“So I'm looking forward to a nice break and then going back to Spurs next season.”

has he been reliably quoted as saying anything about a transfer?

Has anybody heard him say "I want to join Liverpool."?

If Ramos wants Keane in his team then Keane won't be going anywhere. If Ramos wants to totally change Spurs, if he believes that what he took over from Jol isn't a team to make it into the top four (ironic though that may be), and he doesn't see Keane as a key part of his plans then Keane would be a fool not to accept Ramos's wishes and move on to Liverpool.

Having signed a longterm contract, and given Spurs the power over his playing career, Keane has done his part for Spurs. If Spurs decide to sell his contract then the accountants will net a huge amount of money.

Berbatov has only 2 years left (?) in his contract. In football terms that is very short term. The value of his contract as is will drop off sharply by this time next year. So in this case the power is with Berbatov.

Keane is right to stay quiet and wait for Ramos to make up his mind.

This is a huge few weeks for Ramos. His success or failure as a Spurs manager will be built on the decisions he makes in these weeks. All Keane can do is wait.

I don't dislike Robbie Keane, i don't dislike him at all, the fact that I've never lauded him as others have doesn't mean I don't like him

But what I do know from watching my beloved Spurs week in week out is that he is a complete wimp and when it comes to the physical side of the game he is a complete coward.

Winning teams don't carry luxuries of Keane's ability. You may get away with a passenger who has far more ability than Keane. He may have been a senior pro at Spurs and got away with letting the other team have the ball even if it meant us being in danger of concedeing a goal but elsewhere I'm not so sure.

I shall watch with interest if he ends up at Liverpool to see how the likes of Gerrard and Carragher react when he hides from physical challenges in high profile games.

As for him being worth £20 million, I can't honestly believe that any Spurs fan really believes that, and in my opinion I maintain that Ramos was never that impressed hence why he pulled him so many times and would willingly have sold him for half that or even less.

when have you ever known a striker to put his foot in? you could probably count them all on 1 hand

Oh come on, Keane bottles every challenge. Granted he chases lost causes but once he has a chance to tackle he prances around like a poof.

Getting stuck in got him a red card last season, I'd prefer he didn't.

WTF's so funny about KEane being valued at 20mil? And someone saying him being inconsistent? FFS, he scored 20+ goals per season for the last 2 seasons! And he was the top scorer for 2007! Plus, he's only 28! Tell me, why shouldnt he be valued at 20mil? Who should then?? Come on then, name me a player who should be valued at 20mil?

Surely tho, you should be glad he's gone, you're a Spurs fan, you want what's best for the team... does it matter if he lied to us, what matters is he's out, he's not bringing down the team, we'll no longer have to put up with his general shiteness around the pitch... inability to put tackles in, inability to accept being substituted... Spurs are gonna be a much better team without him!

Also, similar logic? Why aren't you angry at Teemu Tainio for joining Sunderland (well, being on the verge of joining Sunderland) he grew up as a Spurs fan FFS and has publicly stated how playing in the NLD was his dream come true? He's got time to run on his contract, but now, he's discussing terms with Sunderland! How very dare he!!!

Infact, I've got a new sig/avatar combo!

thats totally and utterly stupid. It's completly different Teemu DOES NOT WANT TO LEAVE and if was gvien the option of a contract extention to stay at the club he loves he would sign it BUT the club he loves doesn't want him so he has been forced to leave.

Where Robbie is wanted by the club but he would apparently rather play for the 'top4'

No stupider than calling Robbie Keane a Judas for maybe considering a move to a (currently) better and more successful team in exchange for a hefty heap of cash...

Aren't you forgetting, Keane did sign a contract extension... it's got nothing to do with 'loving a club', new contracts are usually about more money...

Keane has signed a contract to be at Spurs, a situation has been reached where Keane is happy to leave, but (I imagine) would also be happy to stay, and the board stand to pocket millions of pounds.

Tainio has signed a contract to be at Spurs, a situation has been reached where Tainio is happy to leave, but (I imagine) would also be happy to stay, and the board stand to pocket millions of pounds.

Spot the difference?

Since we're playing Spot the Difference:

“The manager has said I can leave if I want," he told The Sun. "But I want to prove him wrong. I want to stay here.

“He called me into his office and told me. At first, I thought it was a joke.

"I thought he was going to say I would be starting against Arsenal in the Carling Cup, which was why he didn’t give me a game against Reading at the weekend.

“But he just said ‘You can leave if you want to’. Yet I have no intentions of leaving this club because I love it here."

“I would love to sign a new contract - and I know people at the top of the club want me to stay," he continued, backing suggestions that a new deal was close.

“But no one can expect me to sign a new deal if I can’t get a game.

"All I want to do is play football. It would be great to play against Arsenal as it is such a big game.”

I can't believe people are making up their minds when they aren't in possession of the full facts—indeed, when they have barely any facts at all. But there you go.

People need to chill out until something a little more concrete comes up...as in hes actually sold.

Ronaldo clearly wants to leave Man U and Adebayor seems to want to leave Arsenal. However both of those now seem likely to be at their respective clubs next year.

Levy isnt dumb so unless someone matches our valuation they are our players and as professional footballers im sure they would do a job for us next season if they stay.
