i cant belive this has all kicked off ofer a simple questioning of what a bit part would mean

still even if Keane and Berbatov are the best in the league, if we have a change to get someone better in then we should, if that means Berbatov and /or Keane get droped for afew games or if they then become understudy, if we stand still then other teams over take us! even if we think we are sorted in that area

I get the feeling that when Ramos came in he didn't want to spoil the best part of our team (the Berba/Keane partnership) however now he's bringing in his own players and own system, this means Keane could well be surplus to requirements & I wouldn't be surprised if Bent played more next year as he seems the kind of player that will benefit from Modric & Dos Santos' (assuming the rumours are true) play.

Hmmmm.... Trapattoni wants Keane to play the deeper, linking, role for Ireland (whereas Ramos has been playing Berba as the deeper of our strikers):

-------------------------------------

Giovanni Trapattoni believes Robbie Keane can emulate Francesco Totti and be successful in a role just behind the central striker.

The Republic of Ireland forward was asked to play off Kevin Doyle in the hole in front of Trapattoni's midfield quartet against Serbia on Saturday.

He will fill a similar position in Thursday's clash with Colombia and Trapattoni is confident he can help add a new dimension to Ireland's play.

The Italian tactician accepts that Keane has different qualities to Roma playmaker Totti, but he feels he can do a similar job.

"I want him to play a little bit between the midfield and the forwards," said Trapattoni.

"I want him to play in a similar role to Francesco Totti - Totti is Totti and has other qualities to Robbie, but that's the sort of area I want him to play in.

"Robbie can play like that, and he can also score goals. He can do that."

Keane has proven he can link play though. He's probably better off there. He has the skill set to be a CF more than an out and out striker, which requires a bit more pace and strength.

Thats because Berbatov is better at it than Keane.

I think Berbatov brings the best out of Keane when Keane drops deep, but I think it's hard to say it the other way round. Not that Keane can't play well without Berbatov, but I think he does bring the best out of him.

If the example you like your leader to set is one of cowardice and effort for half a game then he is a shining beacon.

To be honest, I won't be heartbroken if we see a little less of keane jumping under headers and out the way of tackles.
In a shit spurs sides of a few years ago Keane was vital and I respect him for his constant ability to score. But as we have improved imensely along with the rest of the premiership and you apply the same filter to keane that you apply to other players like Zokora, Jenas etc (ie good but compared to the top 4 not good enough) then you must realise that if we want to progress we must have a player who not only can score goals, make assists but works for the team as well.

I know we owe Keane, and it is a tough stance when the fella has always scored his 15 or so goals a season. But great teams attack and defend as teams. So many times opponents goals can be traced all the way back to keane ceding possesion needlessly because he was to scared to keep it or put their defender under pressure. he forces our midfield to work harder further out leaving gaps behind.

How can ManU play with Carrick and Scholes in CM and concede so few chances ? Because they have Tevez and Rooney when not scoring and creating are working their nuts off for the team defending from the front.

You can maybe carry one player like this if, and I mean if, he is suprememly gifted - like Ronaldo - but even he sees so much of the ball and is far braver than Keane.

Keane. Thanks for the memories but it's time to improve.

I want to say something witty and meaninful in response to this post but all i can think of saying is.....

COCK!!!

He's right though about Keane defensively. I worry about it more and more as we get linked with players like Dos Santos, Capel, and we've picked up Modric. Our whole midfield needs to work defensively and these are lightweight players.
