Agree with guiltparty, would sooner see Kane given a chance as 3rd striker. We want to keep some of the youth who have come through the ranks in and around the squad so they don't get disillusioned.

And your point is?

Harry Kane's only 20, why don't we persist with him? Scores like wildfire in U21s too and he won't cost us £10m

Think the money's going to everyone's head. Lets buy all of the players!

The fact we're talking about £10m punts now. Gone up from the £5m punts of old *waves at GDS*

As I say, I know nowt about him

You do have a good point, and I do agree we shouldn't throw money around just to "stock up" per se.
But in Rodrigo's case, he is definitely someone who would be a perfect backup for Soldado imho (and can even play out wide, if absolutely necessary).

My point is we had good reason to be disinterested in Gary Hooper. At the time we were being linked to players like Negredo, Soldado, Damiao... and Hooper. We needed a striker to come in and make an instant impact, and nobody wanted to trust a 24 year old who had never played in a league better than Scotland.

Our situation now is completely different. We have one of the best strikers in the league already, and need somebody who can come in and develop for a few years into a top striker. I would fucking love it if Harry Kane were that player, but the club has seen him play hundreds of games by now and still doesn't think he's even ready for our bench. (His international record isn't fantastic by the way, something like 4 goals in 14 games, and scoring against the Palace U21s doesn't even begin to compare to a real league) So we need a new player. Rodrigo has a brilliant record, he looked great when I saw him play for Spain, he has impressed at every level internationally and in Portugal, and now the club (people who watch a shedload more football than I or just about anyone else on this forum, including our excellent manager and DoF) think he might be a serious target at 10-15m. Is it that strange for people to get excited over that?

Nobody wanted to trust a Scot called Hooper. Or an English guy called Kane. But they're happy to cream themselves over guys called Falque, Dos Santos, Taarabt and Rodrigo

I'm slightly taking the piss, and you seem to have seen the guy a fair bit so all power to you, but I haven't so I won't quite get excited just yet. But if he's ok with AVB, he's ok with me

I don't trust an English guy called Kane cuz our club doesn't trust an English guy called Kane. I'm happy to trust the English guys called Townsend and Carroll, even Pritchard who I think could become immense for us i a couple of years. I understand that sometimes people write off English players, but I do think that in this case Rodrigo is simply that much better.

That's pretty clear.
Rodrigo has world class potential. Reminds me of a young van persie.
If we sign him he will be ahead of Defoe. Plus having Soldado in the team as a role model will do wonders for him

That's because they're shit. Not because they are english or scottish.
I would happily trust the englishman Zaha if we had the chance at the time. Or Townsend, Pritchard, Caulker.

Rodrigo aside, I hope we invest in Kane. A goal every other game in his international youth career. Due to his style of play, I think he'll blossom later than most strikers - but blossom he will. And if he's at Newcastle or somewhere when he finds his sweet spot, we'll be kicking ourselves.

He has world class potential - but Real didn't fancy him, even after spending a fair whack on him, and gave up their right to buy him back too

As I say, I'm happy to go along with the well informed populous, but all sounds very Dos Santos to me. Ho hum

Neither of them are shit

And we flogged Caulker. Another Brit hits the dust

I think (not 100% sure) that RM retain first option on Rodrigo and earlier this month Cheatski registered their interest with Benfica concerning the player...............so maybe this was the ITK information a day or so ago about RM helping us to screw over Cheatski

Benfica bought out their Real Madrid's buyback clause, at least according to wiki

I read RM had first option for two years and then agreed to cancel it, but may be wrong

Oh it's all so exciting!

Our current 30m striker is another one that RM didn't fancy.
Mata is another one that RM didn't fancy.
Negredo is another one that RM didn't fancy

The buy back option was set at 12m, which they didn't think was worth at the time, specially as they didn't need him

Kane > Rodrigo every day of the week.

Love our TW so far but this signing is useless.

I remember quite a few saying Kane was better than Lukaku 2 years back. I'm not writing him off, but he hasn't progressed. And is nowhere near the level of the star players I seem during the U21 championships.

Know nothing of Rodrigo tbh.

Touché

I genuinely don't have an opinion on this, after a pithy throwaway comment I've been playing devils advocate and run out of rope
