Seems weird but I guess he must know how many players want to leave and is thinking "fuck that!"

Former Southampton and England forward Matt le Tissier said he was "disappointed" and "quite surprised" at Koeman's decision to leave, particularly with Saints playing in the Europa League next season.

"He may feel he has got a better chance of winning trophies at Everton. I'd be of a slightly different opinion," Le Tissier told BBC Sport. "I understand they've got a new owner and want to splash a bit of cash, but it might not be as easy a job as he thinks.

"Most clubs in the Premier League are pretty wealthy now and can compete in the transfer market. We just have to move on and look to the next man to take us forward again.

"The players' loyalty lies with the football club and hopefully they will kick us on again next season."

Funny if he took a load of players to the blue side of merseyside after the mass exodus to the red side a few years ago. Southampton fans must hate the cultural centre of Briton that is LIverpooooooooooool

If Southampton are happy to keep selling their players every year they aren't going to keep an ambitious manager for very long. I'm still quite surprised to see him go to Everton, but I guess they are one of the bigger second tier sides in the league.

Le Tissier's career included the first 10 years of the Prem, so he should know that the average player's loyalty goes no further than looking after number one.

I was also surprised when it first appeared in the news. Everton finished below them, have a creaking stadium, a recent history of poor recruitment and a lack of investment. Southampton on the other hand look on the way up and have been willing to spend a bit (as well as sell a lot).

But, the new owner at Everton looks like he'll be a breath of fresh air into that tired club. Even if Lukaku goes. I've seen Everton described as a 'blank canvas', and if Southampton are going to let players go every summer then why shouldn't he go somewhere and build a club from scratch. They've got a couple of players that many clubs would want - as well as a lot that most wouldn't touch - so maybe this summer will be busy for them... must be exasperating being Saints manager and dealing with your squad being torn apart each season.

Just goes to show Southampton's ambition more than anything. If they managed to keep the core of their players from 2013 and even Poch they'd be seriously pushing us and Liverpool for a top four spot by now.

Oh noes! But why would he leave such a massive club?! :sneaky:

To be fiar, I never used to have anything against Sotton. Not until they decided that we were public enemy number 1. I think they forget how the footballing food chain works. They've more reason to hate the likes of Liverpool yet still prefer to moan about us.

They'll blame us anyway. Probably say that our "tapping up" of Wanyama was the straw that broke the camel's back for Koeman...or some other deluded shit to that degree.

Interesting to see what he'll do at Everton, and why he really opted for them anyway. As much as I'm having a go at Sotton, I'd rather be managing them than Everton right now. Perhaps they're offering him top dollar and free reign to re-build that team.

Koeman likely feels he has taken Southampton as far as he can.

Even with Everton's new money I'd have expected him to leave for more of a step up than that though.

True and it is interesting to see a project like that in place.

Sadly though players don't tend to think logically and want to go off for quicker fix (and often more wonga).

Very difficult for Southampton to keep players once they want out, they did well keep Scheiderlin for one more season.

I'm sad for Southampton but can perhaps see from Koeman's point of view that he'll have more resources at his disposal and less chance of his best assets being ripped from him every summer.

Will be interesting to see if Lukaku gives it one more season now or bolts - if he has any sense he'll give Koeman a chance. But as I said in above post footballers don't always follow the logical path...

We've seen ourselves it is difficult to keep players once their head has been turned.

If Liverpool bid for one of our players it's unlikely they would want to leave. I'm talking about now so the Keane example is not valid. But a Southamption player would see this as a big step up.

We couldn't keep our players away from Real Madrid, not our fault just like it's not Southampton's fault when they sell their player to bigger clubs.

Sorry chaps but Southampton are an enormous behemoth of a football club and probably have only let him go because Alex Ferguson has been tempted out of retirement with the once in a lifetime opportunity to manage at St. Marys.

Yeah I tend to agree but they kept Schneiderian for another year, they could have dug their heels in for other players if they really wanted to. The thing is once one player moves it sets a trend and others start to follow, players will always get itchy feet of others are leaving and the club is willing to let them leave. I think they could have done more really especially in 2014 when they had that mass exodus of players.

I really think this is a big mistake Ronald is making here.

He should have used the interest to improve his contract at s'ton.

Giggling hard at their fans though. :D
