Telegraph saying Everton refused to negotiate with us today and that is why Barkley turned down Chelsea. Didn't like being forced to go there.

Interesting to see if Everton willing to deal with us in January
Everton have themselves to blame.. Really a lousy poker player.. Reminds me of Peace from WBA.. Pride over money in business is plain dumb most of the time.

If Everton refused to deal with us today, who's to say they'll deal with us in Jan?

Barkley isn't going to wait forever.
Is fine, chelscum did not get their player, Everton loses a hell lot more of money and yet we lost nothing in the coming 3 months to say cos Barkley is still not able to play until November. A fantastic move from us to take. Comes January, we may earn the millions Everton lost with only a month of Barkley's fitness availability to trade.

Why? Levy hasn't done anything to him. He wants to come to us, Levy has said we can't now but we will in January. Not sure what he's supposed to be pissed off at Levy about?

If he likes a long, drawn out process, which is possibly counter to what he's been made to understand, and if he likes a nail biter that runs up until late January with his World Cup chances hanging in the balance, he'll love Levy.

Hopefully, we're seeing the beginning of a trend here. Chelsea habitually sign players simply in order to stop other clubs getting hold of them, they've no real interest in furthering their careers, it seems to be pretty much a meat market, shifting pieces around a board type exercise. But (again hopefully) players are wising up and realising that the chances are their careers will stagnate by joining them.

Oxlade Chamberlain turns them down, Barkley turns them down, Llorente chooses us and i'm sure people can come up with one or two other examples. Roy Keane barely hid his contempt for the club during a pre-season PL thing on Sky and it wouldn't surprise me if there's quite a few others feel the same.

Words out now. You'll still get people going there for the money but they are a spiteful, mean little club and when the constant chopping and changing, the using and discarding really kicks in they'll find it harder and harder until eventually the Russian decides he's had enough and sells up, hopefully to some totally irresponsibe nerk who runs them into oblivion.

Bah

Seems to me he had a massive decision forced on him by Everton, they won't play him so the Chelsea move would allow him the opportunity to play his way to the World cup.
The decision he finally made was very brave as it must have involved him realising that his chance of that happening has probably gone because he wasn't going to get the chance to play himself into the England squad at Chelsea when clinging on to the hope would have been easier.
He will hope he gets the chance with us come January but I suspect he is now looking beyond next summer in which case a kneejerk move to Chelsea is certainly not the best option.

Did Everton refuse to deal with us all summer or was it just over the last week because we pissed them off?

I hope we can get him in Jan and he plays well enough over the 2nd half of the season to get into the WC squad, but it's gonna be hard for him, so unlucky with that hammy injury.

This is a dick move from them imo. They were happy for him to go, and Barkley desperately wanted us. Not for the money, but for the good of his career. Yes we might have farted about with the fee, but to not negotiate with us and force him to go to Chelsea is a poor show.

We wouldn't meet their evaluation for an injured player over the last month or so, Chelsea obviously did yesterday but Barkley didn't want the move. Hopefully January.

You have to think he's been given assurances by the club that we'll go hell for leather in January

But yeah, rubbish situation. Chelsea really screwed us. Had they not been there, Everton would have been forced to accept a lower bid (now they'll still have to accept something in january, and pay for his wages and rehab in the meantime) from us. He would have then had the chance to integrate with the squad.

As it is it'll be an awkward situation at Everton.

He can sign a pre-contract with us in Jan. He/we can put a copy of that on the chairman's desk and say sell him now for £10m or pay his wages for 6 months (£1m) and get nothing. I am fairly sure they would see sense by end of Jan. If not then he signs the pre-contract with a big sign-on fee and comes in the summer
