I think we are mistaking system for rigidity, a system doesn't have to be rigid you can take the basic rythm and introduce a little syncopation, add a little harmony bringing in new instruments and maybe play with a double base line so popular with baroque composers.
The point is that Pochottino doesn't so much employ a system as an ethos, a philosophy if you will, and so if someone like Berahino isn't exactly like Kane maybe Poch wants him to add another tune to our repertoire to help us turn these draws into wins.

Exactly... but those who don't want Berahino just repeat that he doesn't fit the system. I guess we'll see if he gets his wish and we buy him.

It's not pretentiousness to pretend to know how Pochittino wants to play. It's not pretentiousness to watch just about every game of ours he's managed and formulate an opinion of who suits that system and who doesn't.

Just like it wasn't pretentious to say the same when we bought players like Bent.

You might not agree with my opinion but that doesn't make it pretentious.
It certainly is when you believe you know what players would suit Pochettino's own system better than Pochettino does. A belief that is omnipresent (to borrow one of your favourite words) in all of your posts regarding Berahino.

I was keen on Berahino a while back but not so sure now that he is good enough. Totally agree that a team is made up of parts that are all different but connected by a goal, ethos or whatever. Just not sure about Berahino as a quality finisher

Why were you keen a while back and not now? Surely he hasn't even played so how can your mind change? What's happened is he's not flavour of the month anymore: people want iglaho or the next in form striker

Maybe it is because he has not played much and we have players at WHL who have improved a lot even this season. I thought he had potential but I wonder now if we need a more 'finished' product

His value must have plummeted so when Levy offers what he is now worth (around 15m) Peace will kick up a new stink

I think he'd be a decent addition. Based on how Poch has our players working, Berahino could be really useful. He's versatile and provides competition in the WF role as well as back up to Kane. I'm not convinced WBA will get what they wanted for him in the summer so I anticipate a daft stand off again. However, Pullis has made the point he doesn't need him anymore so who knows?

I have heard three names mentioned mate, and none of them are Harry Kane clones(if you know what I mean).

I can see the logic, Harry is going to be a fixture in the first team for as long as he's fit and happy to stay, so signing a clone is risky if he stays fit. A player ready to lead the line to that standard in the PL is not going to be too keen to sign to be a bench warmer with no real scope for progression. Of course you have the issue of if HK gets injured, but there are no guarantees that will happen. It's such a transfer conundrum, but I'd rather be scratching my head over a backup than a starter like we used to!

It could be argued that another option to change the game off the bench could be more important than direct cover. I'd assume we like Berahino A) because we think he can be another young, hungry and talented cog in Poch's machine but also B) because they liked how he has linked up with Kane in the U21s. Versatility will be a secondary factor.

I definitely think our 'Plan B' in games needs improving, it's why I was interested in a poacher like Hernandez when linked. Some 4-4-2 variation with Kane and Berahino later on in games could have some promise IMO. I'd certainly back Poch and Mitchell if we got him, although it's good to hear there are other options as he's far from a safe bet...

I know it was against Monaco but we played a different system without Kane.
4 fluid interchanging quick forwards which I think would suit Berahino's attributes.
Who knows we may even play 4-4-2 some games as well

Sorry SpartanSpur was writing at the same time, seems with think alike on some of it

Or we could just play the same players we played against Monaco and not waste 20m + 12m wages on Berahino ?

But we'll have SB as a competitor for one of the places bringing much needed competition for the existing players.
Also cover for injuries for all of them as well as Kane.
