€30-35 million for the pair sounds more realistic IMO which is a fair chunk of the reported warchest/modric money but it does solve two of our most apparent problems, a suitable CM to replace modders and a back-up striker for Ade so sounds fair to me. However I have seen neither play extensively (recall seeing rondon in a malaga game but that's it) but based on common opinion I think a silva type midfielder with a semi-proven back-up striker is a good buy and I always have faith in spanish proven talent.

Salomón Rondón hasn't travelled with the Málaga squad to Italy for the Juventus friendly tomorrow. Marca are expecting him to sign for Rubin Kazan for €8-10 million.

I hope Marca is right.

If Rubin was the only interested party at €10 million I guess that should tell us all we need to know about his quality. What I've seen of him hasn't been impressive, and I would be massively let down if he was one of our "big" signings this summer. Backup at best.

If we miss out on this and then try (and most likely fail) for Leandro, Levy had better pull a rabbit out of the fucking hat.

Rondon is realistic, and has all the attributes Leandro does. Maybe he can't pull off a rainbow. But you don't pay 20 million more for fancy tricks.

The only thing his price tag tells us is that Malaga are in deep shit and clubs desperately wanting sugar daddies should be careful of what they wish for.

By your logic any reasonable price tag (usually the norm between European clubs) should be looked at in a sceptical way.

Exactly, tobi. He's got the game to succeed in the prem. Still young enough to improve as a finisher but he's hardly dogshit right now. Would be perfect backup/depth at striker. Hell, as things currently stand with our strikers, I'd take him as the starter ahead of JD.

And while we're at it, why not look at Isco too. They have a team that made UCL.....they have talent in many places.

That's beside the point- I just don't see why we would be after a backup striker before even closing up deals for the sort of players we desperately need. Namely a first choice striker and a Modric-replacement.

Isco could be the inspired signing for midfield were we to look in that direction.

Well, as much as it might seem like it, I'd think the club were capable of looking at and tying up more than one deal at a time. It's not like, we look at Rondon and ignore every other need we have. Anymore than I'd hope we concentrated the entire club's efforts on the Moutinho/whoever else to the detriment of trying to secure a striker.

I agree, but at the same time it worries me to think we'd spend €10 million on a "backup striker" without having secured other, more pressing targets.

Then don't think of him as a back up, its a squad game.

If we sign Adebayor he shouldn't be automatic first choice, last season during his off days he smiled his way through matches because he knew that he wasn't going to be dropped.

Apart from GK's and players past their prime, players happy to play back up have the wrong mentality. They won't train hard enough or push themselves and others because they know that they are just there to fill the roster. Just like certain guys in the NBA that get scrub minutes and only play in blow outs.

If we added Rondon to our current strike force he wouldn't be the backup. We haven't actually signed Ade yet.
