Chelsea have been linked with Schurrle for the best part of two years now, and I believe he has always stated that thsts where he'd like to go if he came to the PL. For what its worth, he even has 'would prefer to play in the PL' and 'would prefer to play for Chelsea' in his Football Manager profile. Bit silly bringing it up maybe, but the SI guys do research the absolute shit out of things and base it all on documented evidence.

Time to get him was before he moved to Leverkusen, when he was around 19 years old and already banging in top flight goals for Nuremburg.

Mainz* :)

In Germany this deal is seen as done, it's just a matter of both teams settling on the fee unfortunately :/ He is a very, very good player and it's a great shame that he's going to Chelsea. I have to say though, it's a good move by Chelsea to be getting it done now because there is a very realistic chance of them not getting into the champions league next year and if they wait until the summer then he might not want to go there (if they don't get in the top 4).

If there was another team in the Premiership to sway his head though, I would hope it would be us. Holtby is great friends with Schürrle and on the pitch they have great chemistry. Holtby and Schürrle made up two of the Bruchweg-boys at Mainz (with Szalai the other one). Wouldn't mind us bringing all three of them together to be honest, Szalai is a physical striker with good positioning and movement, and everyone knows we could do with some of that in the team. He might not be the biggest name in World football, but even if he wasn't going to be our starting striker, he wouldn't be a bad option off the bench..

Dembele - Sandro - Holtby

Bale - Schürrle

New Striker / Szalai

Doesn't sound too bad

Were we not linked - no doubt very tenuously by some wanky website - to Szalai a window or two back? Both of them would be very good purchases for our club. Not costing a bomb and can contribute to the squad immediately and potentially grow into important first-teamers for us.

Shame is looks like Schurrle is Chelsea bound. A real shame actually. I hope he's not another younger player who blends into the background there along with the 15 thousand they have signed over the last 2 yrs and have played about 3 games between them since.

To be fair, Schürrle would probably cost about £20m. De Bruyne, who Chelsea are offering to Leverkusen with £13m has done well at Bremen this year so we would probably have to come close to the £20m mark for Leverkusen to accept. Our biggest hope is that Chelsea don't get in next years Champions League. Personally I would prefer this anyway. Don't get me wrong, I really don't like Arsenal, but at least you can respect the way the club is run, whereas with Chelsea if they get in next year's CL then that could mean Mourinho coming back and a lot of spending, which would also be bad news for us!

I hope we've been linked with Szalai in the past! I know Arsenal were linked with him in January, but hey, a target of Arsenal, Liverpool, or Chelsea's is a target of ours right?

I definitely remember reading a thread about Szalai on here. Maybe in the transfer rumours section. Not sure if was this window past or the one before that but there was chat about him for sure. Can't remember the source of the rumour though.

Ryantegan said something about him, I think.

I did bring him up on a thread in January.. It would be a laugh if it was me you were referring to :D I've subtly started a rumour with no basis other than that it would be a good signing. I knew I'd make a good journalist!

Haha, Lufti. It could have been you but now that Spur has mentioned RT in his above post, that also rings a bell.

Just had a quick search in the TR section. Oodles of discussion about him this last January. Along with Son. We've been linked to him by the press though for sure. Not that it means much. It would easier to list the players we haven't been linked with.

Yeah, without doubt.

Son, Szalai, Schürrle. Could do worse. For Levy I would say that would be a pretty impressive window. Maybe throw in another striker and a left back if you're feeling optimistic and we'd really be going places!

How transfers work at #CFC...Andre Schurrle identified by AVB, 2 bids made under RDM, will sign under Benitez - and play for none of them...

Funny how their still working from AVB's initial list.

In fairness.. (pulled from wiki) :

He joined Chelsea when former manager Avram Grant was in charge in 2007. After the departure of Ray Wilkins, Emenalo was promoted from his position as chief scout to assistant first team coach on 18 November 2010. On 8 July 2011, Chelsea appointed Emenalo Technical Director. His responsibilities include heading the scouting and academy programs.

Sounds like this guy has a big say in who they sign and Schürrle might have been his choice. If they can get Schürrle, and not send Lukaku and De Bruyne on loan, they're a CB away from possibly winning the premiership. We need to reinforce in the summer CL or not

That guy is a yes man.

I think AVB suggested Courtois as well, he's doing very well at Atletico but they've since given Cech a new contract, makes you wonder why they signed him in the first place. The same goes for De Bruyne and Marin.

Leverkusen chairman Wolfgang Holzhauser says Andrew Schürrle already signed a pre-contract with Chelsea, still mulling over the details.

Lifted from Twitter.

Can't remember.

If you're German and you haven't heard about it then I'm guessing it's bollocks.
