I think our scouting and transfers have been better this summer than last.

I was never convinced by Mitchell and his signings have proved this on the whole.

The players we've got this summer seem to be more sensible targets.

the only reason we haven't seen GKN even on the bench this season isn't because Poch doesn't fancy him, it's due to being injured.

myself I'm gutted we don't look like we are going to give Janssen a better go of it in the 2nd season, because I really believe there's a player there that just needs a break, even if it means 1 going in off his arse. hopefully with Llorentes experience something this team has needed for a few seasons now, it might be the turning point. he did score 15 goals for Swansea, if he gets enough game time for us he could match that figure with the amount of chances we create.
I don't think he will be getting any game time when he comes back, he will be gone in the summer if he has the same season as last season.

I think people are trying. It's just the man is constantly getting in the way.
All I have done is defend my arguments which I think have been pretty reasonable I know people are passionate about the club but we should be able to talk freely about mistakes that have been made.

I think I speak for at least a few when I say I'm not really sure what your arguments are...

- That Sandro was worth a punt at £5m & £120k a week, even though nobody knows if he is any good
- That we should sign players like Martial when they are younger before they are expensive, even though United bought him for £40m at age 19
- You don't think we should have bought 2 defenders even though we sold 2 and loaned out 1, because we had the best defence in the league. Even though other teams have strengthened their forward lines from last season
- You don't like the signing of Llorente, and you don't think he would have scored against Chelsea

I never said he was worth a punt at 120k.
Monaco brought Martial for 6 million, that's the stage I want us to buy at but if you read my previous arguments you would know that.

You are correct with the other points.

Nothing is gauranteed Mullers, who says that if we signed a 16 or 17yo Martial that it wouldn't have stifled his progress? Too much too soon and all that. I mean who is the last big star bought from abroad at a young age for a resonable fee to break into a top player in England? Wenger has tried it loads but has never really managed it with Fabragas and Anelka. It simply doesn't happen that often if ever, it's a great theory though.

As for Llorente I am 100% confident he can do a job for us, he scored against City, Chelsea and Liverpool last season, if I recall correctly.

Jeez there's just no pleasing some people.
We've finished 3rd and then 2nd in last 2 seasons on a shoestring budget compared to everyone else and a net spend of virtually fk all.
This scouting system has brought us.... edit- cant be fkin arsed to go there. Probably already been said. I just saw thread title, read first post and flew into a ffs rage lol.
We're doing far better than we should given the competition so stfu and enjoy it.

But I'm not saying its guaranteed, I'm just saying lets scout and get a 16-17 year old Martial for 6 million and see how it works, low risk high reward. We did that with Bale and look what happened.

In our case it was Modric he was 22 and we brought him for 16 million. I'm not asking for guarantees, I'm just saying lets make the scouting network the best it can be, in order to give ourselves a better chance of winning things and improving.

...Like we have with Foyth, in which you've criticised the signing and even acknowledged:

Foyth is a prospect but will not be getting any game time for a while, it's going to be difficult for him.

We are. We have also lost out on major trophies and CL splendour largely due (IMO) to a handful of some very, very bad transfer decisions. It doesn't hurt to strive to become better, even if we finished second.

Again this is a case of not reading previous arguments, the bit that you quoted even gives you some insight as to why I criticized the signing, I would rather have a prospect in an area that we need, he'd have better chance of getting some game time.

I can't disagree with the last paragraph, of course we should be investing in our scouting and I'm sure we are. The issue that you're ignoring is that for every Martial there are 50 duds. You can't just take a scattergun approach and take punts on young players hoping they'll make the grade, it's not viable for a club aiming for honours.

We've invested a huge amount of money in our academy and we've seen it bare fruit with Mason, Livermore, Bentaleb, CCV, KWP, Kane and Winks all playing notable parts in our first team. We don't need to go out and take risks in the market over unknown entities when we have a production line producing our own talent who are coached specifically for our style of play and who will provide no surprises in terms of character or mentality.
