went to the open training today. don't have any ITK but here's some stuff i noticed:

- Danny Rose looked like he didn't give a shit. in warm ups he was barely moving. and one of the coaches was talking to a player next to him in warm ups and he just stood there with the angriest look on his face looking at them. really not sure what that was about. but he didn't seem too happy in general.
- Erik Lamela on the other hand was working his ass off. Appeared to have great work ethic. Definitely impressed me and stood out in the group.
- Younes Kaboul looks great and definitely seemed like the leader among the players in training
- Kyle Walker was off on the side jogging the whole time, and wasn't with the rest of the group. Obviously still recovering from injury.
- Lamela fouled Holtby pretty roughly in the scrimmage, and Holtby looked incredibly pissed afterwards. For a second I thought they were going to break into a full on fight. Might be something in that? Or it might've just been a heat of the moment, adrenaline filled kinda thing.
- Ceballos did really well in the scrimmage. Played a couple really good passes. Definitely impressed me and looked good with all the first teamers.

Perhaps Holtby has been taking the piss out him about the World Cup Final?

Dodged the question about bringing through youngsters.

Dodged the question about target for the season.

Used the word philosophy a lot.

Obviously struggles to express himself in English; hope he uses a translator in training.

It's different talking in a press conference though, even native English speakers struggle to string two words together in post match interviews

Or he's been briefed to keep schtum about these areas. He clearly recognises we are a different kind of club to Espanyol and Southampton, and therefore a different approach to the season must be used. I imagine Levy wants the club to bring through youth, sparing the coffers, and sees that Pochettino is the right guy to do this. Pochettino recognises that it will be more difficult due to the expectation to win and I'd guess he doesn't want to commit to a certain vision, especially after being at the club for a relatively short time.

Don't know if it's a wrong word, I suspect it's just an American thing, don't thing we even have a word to describe that.

Interesting stuff in the lost though. Really hope Lamela is the amazing player we all hope so pleased to see him knuckle down.

Isn't that just called.. a match?

I think that's probably normal to be honest, everyone is trying to prove themselves to a new manager before the season, and if there are risky challenges flying round then players aren't going to be happy - an injury now could wreck a whole season for some of the ones who really need to prove themselves

WC players or not, I am buzzing for tonight. We start fresh under Poch. Can't wait to see how we play under him and see what Lamela is capable once given a run in the side. I know the first few games are used for fitness, but still happy to see Spurs back in action. COYS!

Apparently Lamela is his translator during training sessions

That is a bit of a concern for me. I am sure Levy thought AVB was the right guy to do that as well, and that AVB made all the right noises at interview. But once at the helm he became completely results focussed and had no interest in bringing through youth. What was reassuring for me was that Poch has a record of working with young players at Southampton, though I am not sure to what extent they were brought through under him rather than Adkins, or to what extent he put his trust in them through necessity. I just find it a bit strange that he should duck the question entirely, when it would have been easy to deflect it with a few bland comments about what a great youth setup there is at Spurs etc.

But of a meh press interview for me.

At this stage I'm happy to put it down to having to do it in English and the uncertainty that may have come with it. But he avoided some stuff and I didn't get an overwhelming sense of happiness from him. Nor have I got a sense of belonging from him. To be successful I believe that he needs to feel as if he is a part of the club, he needs to feel what Spurs is about. It all felt a bit ' third party ' to me.
