I was confident in him tucking the penalty away! And after all those years of Defoe I think thats worth £25m :D
Not to mention the sublime piece of skill to set it all up.

But then... You know as stated above, it was a pre-season a time stretch the legs and I personally don't think he would have got the shot away, so he made the right choice IMO.

So nice to not have to watch pressers through the gaps of your fingers anymore.:D

Respect to him for doing it in English, I hope his English carries on improving though, its going to be really important for him to get his points across to the squad when he is asking them to work a lot harder than previously or we could have another Ramos revolt on our hands... Comes across as likeable and you have to respect he's only spoken English for the last couple of years.

...
It was good to see Dawson not punt it long for once even if he did struggle in doing so (think he needs to be moved on now).

It amazed me last season with all our technical players, the ball would go sideways in midfield a bit then back to Daws.
He is not a pivot. He is not Ledley King.
The safest option for all, when we are being pressed, is for him to then accurately punt the ball, which he did, often to good outcomes.

If we need a defender to play some clever triangles with the midfield, then why can't Dawson's partner (normally Vertonghen) step up?

The manager needs to adjust his game plan to take into account the players' strengths and weaknesses.
This is something to watch-out for in the future perhaps.
