Simple thread, with Yedlin impressing on tour does he deserve the second RB spot in the squad. He gets my vote as I think his searing pace offers us a really useful attacking alternative.

I'd still take Trippier.

Yedlin looks better but still seems to be mostly just a pace merchant.

I thought Yedlin played very well on the tour. I was impressed. He's improved alot.

That said, Trippier is the #2 RB. Yedlin will likely be loaned out again then sold next year for max return(Trippier likely will too in order to make room for KWP). If there was a competition for the #2 RB, they both would have played RB these last 2 games. Yedlin only played 12' of RB and 93' of LB. It's abundantly clear he doesn't have a future here. And that's fine. As long as he goes to a club that wants him and will play him. That's all I care about as a USMNT guy. He needs to keep improving for the WC in 2018. Only way that will happen is by playing.

Whilst I have question marks over the defensive ability of Kyle walker-peters, he is imo the best Fullback in the final third

Timely thread. Trippier offered nothing offensively in either tour game, when he often had space in front of him and he failed to find some good runs by Janssen.

Whereas Yedlin has come on bundles, looked happy to be out there and showed some confidence and ambition in trying to get the ball moving through midfield, in spite of switching wings which obviously ain't easy.

I think he deserves the bench more than Trippier assuming he's also catching Pochs eye doing the day to day stuff at Hotspur Way..

Remains to be seen who waves the cash at Levy though.

Cheers.

Reckon there would be clubs willing to pay 10 for Trippier,
while Sunderland only were talking bargain sums for Yedlin.
Not that it should be the most important part of the decision.

Even before Yedlin's renaissance Trippier for me was always average. A good number 2 mind you, but nothing special. Which of these two could realistically challenge Walker in the future based on their upward development? I would say Yedlin so he gets my vote

Trippier, no doubt. Im not writing of Yedlin but we have seen him in 45 mins in two pre season matches.
Trippier did a good job when called upon last season and I'm confident he will improve this season.

Tough one. I staunchly defended Trippier a couple of weeks ago when I think someone suggested it would be better to have Yedlin. But after watching the friendlies, maybe Yedlin would be the better option.

There's various things to consider. Yedlin just turned 23, whilst Trippier will soon turn 26, so in theory Yedlin has much more potential to improve and push Walker more.

On the other hand, although unfortunately he didn't show it in the friendlies, Trippier probably is the best crosser in the senior team, and that was very useful at times, particularly against Watford (twice). I would feel uneasy at having 4 full-backs who's delivery can often be poor.

Finally, you have the KWP question. Although in most cases it would make sense to go with Yedlin as he's 3 years younger, the fact that we have a hugely talented and promising RB in the Academy means that it may not be wise to go with Yedlin, as if we stick with him for a couple of years, it would block KWP and we don't want to be doing that.

In my opinion, in 17/18, KWP should be 2nd choice RB, but I'm really not sure who should be 2nd choice this season. I think I'm leaning towards Trippier still because of his crossing ability, and because the argument that Yedlin should be kept because he has higher potential is kind of invalidated by the fact we have an even more promising RB in Walker-Peters.

We live a right back at Spurs, reminds me of the days when we had Charlie, Chimbomba, Hutton and Gunter in the squad at the same time.

Talk for yourself! I have been watching him all most of last season

Probably as much to do with playing next to a very inexperienced CB as anything.

All my instincts tell me that Yedlin will offer more under Pochettino's tutelage. Trippier however is a fine footballer and full back.
I'm one of the few on here that doesn't rate Walker as highly- he is talented but makes me nervous, and not in an excited way!

Your instincts are wrong. Poch's team selections made it abundantly clear Yedlin had no future here. If he did, he wouldnt have played out of position.

I think this is a case of playing him to get him a move. Yedlin is available for the right price.
Trippier is someone Poch likes and gives us a different option to Walker.

I think Trippier was good when played last year.
I think Yedlin will be loaned if not sold. He did have a gold season but still needs to improve more to be to the level we require.

I like Trippier. When he was rotating with Walker over the Christmas period he did not let the side down
