Yep. Trips will be awesome against poor to middling teams but a real tenacious, tough, direct RB would definitely have made a difference today. I've said this so much this evening already but while our team are decent passers and move all the time, we need some serious speed, technique, tenacity and passing/ crossing qualities to negate the quality sides that are happy to concede possession. Aurier would be a decent addition but a quality WF is also neededI agree. The other thing this does is prevents Alonso from pushing high up the pitch too, as he in turn is scared to over commit incase his opposing player exposes the space he's left. At WHL last year Walker and Rose had the pair of them pinned back the entire game and they really suffered. Like you say Trippier just doesn't pose that threat, unfortunately.
