I wonder if that price could come down later in the window? Especially if he throws his toys out the pram.

If the price does indeed come down as I agree it will, let’s hope the big boys have already made their purchases for his position. I reckon we’d get him for 65/75m if he’s still there toward the end of the window and his options are limited.

Agreed. Signing a quality CM is more important than getting another attacking player, IMO.
It's frustrating that we seem to be prepared to splash mega money on the likes of Martial, Pulisic, and de Ligt but we aren't linked with a CM in that bracket.

I understand that those players are massive talents that would each represent something of a coup for us for various reasons, but none of those positions are essential for us. We have a pacey, tricky wide player already in Lucas. Son, though not identical to Martial, largely fills the same role. At CB we have Dier and a massive talent in Foyth even if (when) Toby is sold.

The biggest hole in the squad by far is in central midfield, and IMO it really ought to be our top priority. Yet there's no indication that that is the case, though obviously things could be different behind the scenes.

Just as a hypothetical, would people prefer it if we signed Martial + Pulisic or Savic? Assuming that if we went for Savic we would bring in a 20 mil wing forward and vice versa (a 20 mil CM along with the other two).
Its a question with no wrong answer.

Because it depends very much on the formation we use.

If we move towards a City/Liverpool type of attack - where we put Eriksen and Lucas in front of a DM, we don't need Savic. While, Martial and Pulisic would be each capable of playing multiple positions in that line-up. But, if we stick to a 4231 - then Savic replacing Dembele becomes the better choice.

True that, our problem in breaking teams down doesn't lie in the front 4 it lies in that link between defence and attack, a player in the Modric/Carrick mould. Is that Savic or Kovacic, or neither?

Why will his price come down? Lazio don't have to sell to my knowledge. He has 4 years left on his contract.

It’s only if he wants to move based on their failure to secure cl footy. The fact they’ve even put a figure on him means they’d be prepared to deal at some point as opposed to saying not for sale. If he feels the same and angles for a move I think we’d have an outside chance. Onions.

Would Dortmund go in for him I wonder.

We perform a double-swoop on 22 year-old German CM/DM Weigl (who has proven himself on a bigger stage) and Pulisic. Give them £100m. They spend it on Savic.

A top team who could afford him if we did that...

90 million eh?

Some of you are in dreamland.

Thought we had £150m to spend this Summer! (Yes I know the ITK said two purchases of £50-60m and no more)

My thinking however would be to follow the Utd blueprint from their prime and astutely add one absolutely quality player each summer.

It maybe that we need to strengthen in more than one area but over time, that one superstar results in a world class team. This compared to a group of above average - good players.

We have some genuine quality at the moment but imagine adding Savic this Summer and then another top player next. Two/Three years down the line we wouldn't need to dream.

Dortmund can't spend that kind of dough.

he is worth what some one will pay which is dictated by the market, I cant see anyone paying anywhere near 100 million for him atm.

If we want Savic we'll have to pay what Lazio wants regardless of market value.

Or we have a chat, in private, of course, get him to buy out his contract & compensate him accordingly upon his arrival at the good ship Tottenham. Not that I'd condone such actions. :sneaky:

Having a Serbian wife, and therefore connections to the country I’d very much love us to have the country’s most prodigious talent.

Strangely, he still hasn’t got into national team really with the manager explaining it as him not suiting the tactics and formation of the team. He seems to be more highly regarded in some circles of Europe than he is in Serbia itself at this point
