It is a contract anyway, however you take it out... However there is an obligation to draw attention to any term that may be deemed unusual or erroneous. Having to cancel a contract, taken out by phone/internet, via snail mail is in my opinion unusual, especially given that you can cancel sky via telephone and Setanta certainly did not draw my attention to the term!
totally agree, as far as i could see there was no mention of written cancellation in terms and conditions and i dont think the site provides any information pointing to it directly, it does give phone numbers for further information???? - the case i know of was started after a dd was cancelled and their customer service telephoned and virtually demanded it be re setup as they had not been given 30 days notice, this was followed by numerous calls and letters - after a few months of what seemed like harrasement they sent in a dca. the result i will not post publicly.
