I hope the ball goes out for a throw rather than a corner, thats how woeful our corners are. City and Utd for instance, will score goals from corners, big difference between being title challengers and also rans.

Our movement and general willingness to attack a cross is sub rate. Bar Kaboul who seems to be the only person attackign a cross.

The rest either stand still, hide behind their marker or are waiting for a knock down.

VDV's technique is good. gets bend and alot of pace, but not the height to beat the first man, but when it does the movement from our forwards isnt great anyway

better if we just start taking short corners

even our throw ins are poor we never seem to have anyone to throw it to, does anyone really think the united throw that led to the second goal was just off the cuff? not likely.

Yes, our set pieces are awful which says to me we actually need to working on them in training more often. VDV and Bale both were hailed as great free kick takers before arriving and clearly need to get back into practice. Also why on Earth do they keep letting Kaboul hit them? He is fucking awful at it and more annoying still is that the little lay offs give the opposition time to charge the shots down (not that they need to).

I see any free kick in the opposition final 3rd or a corner kick for us as basically a goal kick for them! I sort of settle in as if it's merely a break in play

Has Kaboul ever scored off a free kick, anywhere? where did the idea that he is a threat come from?

It's ridiculous as VDV,Bale should be able to score free-kicks with their ability and VDV's corners aren't too bad but we just never get anyone on the end of them. Kind,Kaboul,Sandro, even Ade and Saha should all be able to knock a few headers in, they never do.

Must be sorted out as we are missing out on a lot of goals as a result.

Whatever happened to any sort of variation in corners? We have scored from a Modric corner to Bale at the near post and seen decent efforts from hitting it to VDV for a volley on the edge of the area. Now, they're almost giving the opposition a goal kick.

It's clear we don't work on free-kicks at all. There are no set plays and the players often mill around the ball to put their case in taking it. Sometimes we've been in more danger of conceding from our own free-kick!

I don't know what's happened to Bale, but when at Southampton he seemingly used to net 1 out of 3 direct. Now he rarely hits the target.

This is one thing that just simply baffles me.

When VDV was at Hamburg, and then Real Madrid, I personally felt that he was a top 3 player in the world for his set piece/corners delivery. He used to be so accurate and bend the ball in with wicked dip and pace.

He also has scored direct free kicks throughout his entire career, at every club he has been at.

To add to that, Bale was clearly someone who was becoming a bit of a free kick specialist, several years ago.

The ONLY thing it can be is a lack of practise for both of them. There is no other logical explanation.

The quality of our free kicks and corners, for a professional football team, is disgusting.

This must be down to Harry's training regime.

Utter garbage.

It has become embarrassing.

It's not only the delivery, but the movement from the players in the box. I've lost count of the amount of times a corner or free kick is swung over to the near/far post and about 6 of our players are all stood pretty much holding hands on the penalty spot. Hardly anyone seems to make a run to the near or far post, and when they do it's often timed so poorly that they can't make a genuine attempt to attack the ball. This is basic coaching and I can't believe it hasn't been addressed.

Rather than endless questions about the England job, this is the sort of thing that I wish a journo would ask Harry about at those press conferences. I want to at least hear him acknowledge the problem because as things stand I have little to no confidence that it's something that he is attempting to address.

It's been years now yet we are still fucking terrible at set pieces. There is absolutely no reason why we should be this inept given our personnel. We are not a team of midgets and we do not lack in players who are capable of a delivery into the box, so why are we so bad? Why isn't the problem being rectified? Does Harry even believe that it is a problem? What the fuck is going on???

We should be scoring an extra 10 goals a season from set pieces. If we were as capable from them as we should be then we'd probably all but have a CL place tied up already. What a waste.
