Should we bring Comolli back to revive our transfer situation?

Bar one or two highlights (vdV, Sandro, Parker and Ade), our transfer strategy has pretty much gone out the window this past 4 years. We have an excellent first 11 (only 10 of whom we own), Sandro and King and that's pretty much it in terms of players who can perform at the level we need them to. We don't appear to have any kind of coherent transfer strategy (was it 6 or 7 windows we went without replacing Berbatov?), no real youth purchasing policy (Sandro aside) and a paper thin squad.

Comolli, the man who signed our most successful players of the last decade - Berbatov, Modric and Bale - has become a free agent today. Basically should we bring him back to put our transfers back on track?

Why are spurs fans obsessed with a DOF, we haven't got a good record with some of the buys and I much prefer a manager with a good scouting system like Newcastle atm

No point getting in young players if we never going to give them a chance

If we were to go back to the DOF route, which i think we should, then I'd rather we steered clear of Comolli. Get a fresh face with new ideas in. For all of his good signings, he made a fair few awful ones.

Dalglish said today that he identified the players and told Commolli to get them in, ie Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Adam etc. So perhaps Commolli isn't to blame for their poor transfer market performance.

Can't see Harry wanting to work with him though, it's why he left Portsmouth 1st time around wasn't it?

No. Next question - although we have a few players brought in under him still here. Just no need to go back. Unless it's that Xzzzbarragstunhbfvhbdhjfhhfbdfjfdjjmndskjbdskjnvdxxxzxzxzxzzxzxzxzxzxzxm fella who seems to be BFF with Guardiola. That could work.

Well that doesn't show Commolli in a good light as he was the one negotiating the fees for the players

Its one thing to say " I want Downing Carroll Henderson Adam"

Its quite another, to spend nigh on 100m getting them.

Like Bent and Bentley for £16m a pop. He should just stop buying English players. They're his Kryptonite.

Nope.

In any case, bringing back a DOF would totally depend on who the new manager would be as they would need a good working relationship.

At least when we had a DoF we managed to get our business done more than 30 seconds before the deadline.

Why does he have to be director of anything? He could simply be a senior scout or even THE scout for the club. He was a key scout for Arsenal for years.

The club is about playing matches, and hopefully winning things. It's purpose is not to buy players. That is merely a function of the clubs need to do the things I first mentioned.

I haven't been here long, but I've been here long enough to know that some of you are only interested in transfers. And I could see why somebody like Comolli would be such a draw to someone who cares about the summer months more than the regular season. But for the rest of us, it's not fair to suggest we hammer our cocks with a rusty pipe. That is what having Comolli back would be like, in my imagination.

Fabrizio Larini is the guy we need.

Baldini, Valdano and Begiristain would all be good options too.

I've never rated Dalglish as a manager. I'd certainly blame him over Comolli or Steve Clarke.

Yeah, bring back Atouba!

An Arnesen signing.

Very true. But then England currently has its worse generation of players, possibly ever.
