Should we bring Comolli back to revive our transfer situation?

Comolli says he wants to go back to France. Tottenham is not in France.

Which is quite handy, as I don't want him back.

Surely thats the chairmens fault not the dof.? Not saying he should come back tho.

If that were the case the why employ a guy to do the job?

That idea reaffirms what I already beleive. we have a DOF......Daniel Levy!

?? Cus they are liverpool!!? Just pointing out that dalglish is the one choosing the players and the chairman writes the cheques. like you say, why did they need him.

If we lose Harry, I think we should bring him back. I have to believe that the job he did at Liverpool was not his work. I think he has been influenced by some other people in the system. He would have bought more french based if he was totally in control, I think.

You can have the best manager around, but if you don't have people who have a sense of how a good squad of players should look like, you will be in trouble. The most important position in a football club is the one who is responsible for the transfers. That IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. Football should be fun, or what?

What has happened to Liverpool is tragic. They do not have an impressive team at all.

i think the chairman (yanks) would be relying on mr comolli`s judgement regards the fees???

hmm, i rate him actually but it all depends on who comes in.....would be nice to stop all this brinkmanship though, i think mr arnesen was superb (til he turned like a rat)...i remember that summer when he was buying everyone!! lol

The Fenway lot got rid of him apparently as he said applying their "moneyball" mantra to football/soccer wasn't quite so easy and was fighting agin it apparently. So, he was sacked of his own free will. :)

Anyhoo, new manager comes in and gets scouts he knows and trusts to find the right players for him. Levy then does the money stuff.

Let's not overcompliate things.

Yes bring him back - on a 3 month free trial with his sole task to sell David Bentley and Giovanis Dos Santos for at least 50% of the amounts he bought them for. Otherwise no !

He had to buy English players though. I actually think Comolli has a decent grasp of how to spot talent but the situation he was in at Liverpool was that they had only 3 senior homegrown players in their squad. For the registration of 25 players for the Premier League they have to name 8 home grown. He could have used youth players to fill out the 25 but that would have limited any movements he could make to bring in International signings. So he really had little choice although I'd question whether he got good value for money on the signings he made but you can be sure if he identified those same players with Levy then the prices would have been vastly different.

Of course he was the easy target to dismiss rather than Kenny. The problems they are having are on the football pitch and they are losing to teams with less ability but of course Kenny is a face and has the support (although it is clearly waning) of the Liverpool fans. Comolli could be lumbered with the bad signings even though it was a situation he inherited from previous bad management and a changing of the registration system in the Premier League.

I don't think it woud be the right move for us to bring him back though. I think we need to move on with a new coach and DOF partnership that is starting a fresh if we lose Harry in the summer. They will have to work in tandem to install their own approach and it would make it more difficult to happen considering Comolli already knows the workings of the club for a new coach to get an equal say.

God no. He would be a good scout for French Ligue players, but thats it.

As a scout only. There seems to be some pretty decent talent coming out of France at the moment. It would mean that he could live back there too!

OK now this is ITK

Mr Commoli is an arrogant cock whose previous links to star signings are teneous at best.

He is the most arrogant man you will have the pleasure of meeting and Daglish and most people in football detest him and this has been on the cards since day 1 of Kennys tenure.

He gets found out everywhere he goes and Daniel wouldnt go near him again with a bargepole. He didnt trust him. He was not the saviour for us previously and Frank Arnesen was much better than him.

You really could have Mickey Mouse scouting the players we go for and they could find the next Messi at 15-16 but if Daniel deems it as too expensive he wont pay for them and we will miss out again.

The problem with us and star players or even bringing in 'up and coming' players isnt the scouting network, it is the chairman and his reluctance to spend and his insistence on being involved in every deal.

I feel better for writing that.

None of it is opinion (y)

JJ, I know you have a lot of good information but:

1. Links to star signings are tenuous at best - Any different to Harry's links being tenuous, Kenny's links being tenuous?
2. Comolli is the most arrogant man I will ever meet - Opinion and almost certainly incorrect
3. Frank Arnesen was better than him - Opinion
4. Daniel wouldn't go near him with a bargepole - The only person who would know this is Levy, nobody can figure out how his mind works and it sounds very much like an opinion rather than a fact
5. The problem with us and star players or even bringing in 'up and coming' players isnt the scouting network, it is the chairman and his reluctance to spend - Very much opinion. At the end of the day in any job you report to your boss and if you have an idea then you need to communicate so that your boss is convinced. How can you determine whether it is the fault of Levy or the inability of the scouting network to communicate exactly how good the player is? Levy is a businessman and if it was a good investment then it would seem likely he would do it.
