Berbatov or Dempsey on dealine day is a no brainer but lets be honest, I'm not sure Berbatov would have been entirely conducive to AVB's work ethos. Isn't that one of the reason's why SAF jettisoned him ?

Hindsight's piss easy, but Adebayor was great for us for most of last year (wasn't he third most productive goal/assist rate on Europe or something), when we managed to resign him there was no reason to suppose he would have such a non productive year. The logical choice in August was Adebayor.

Great brain and technically superb but we need a more viable long term solution than Berbatov.

We should have signed both Berba and Ade. Just because ManU have Rooney, didn't stop them buying RVP

I created this same thread on transfer deadline day saying I thought we'd missed a trick and he was perfect for our style and bringing those with pace into the game and I was roundly slaughtered with judas nonsense! Fact is he said he's want to leave us in the summer and levy messed about with the last day deal. He was too good for us at the time I'm afraid do ppl should be happy we got 30 million for soneone with not much sell on value.. Get over it, realise good players = success. Yes he should play for us but levy messed him about when selling him so he turned us down..... For Fulham......(must have been REALLY angry at Levy).
All of that said Levy has made us into a top club again and he can keep doing what he's doing all day long! Won some you lose some. Funny how ppls opinions change in a season tho

Yes duh we should have. It was a big mistake to sign Dempsey and basically pay for the Berbatov transfer to them.

We won a cup when he was here.........we haven't since.
Lets not forget that we had Jermain Jenas/Tom Huddlestone and Didier Zokora in midfield and 'butter fingers' Huerelmo Gomes in nets when Berbatov was here.

Yes we did, bravo, 4th tier Bradford nearly won it too...look i am not Berba bashing here, i just don't want him here again .

If instead of buying Berbatov OR Dempsey we'd paid Mossad or whichever hired assassins were available and sent them to destroy Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud in August, we'd probably already have CL tied up.

Food for thought.

We should have signed Michu and Benteke.
And Le Fondre.
And Kone.
And Remy.

And indeed anybody else who has looked half decent after we've had a look at them. This football management lark is easy once you've had 30 games to analyse a players form before having to make a decision!

By the way, has anybody pointed out the fact that Defoe has scored more goals than Berbatov has this season? And that is whilst Defoe is having a "shit" season and Berbatov is prompting threads about us signing him. Hilarious!

They never played together.

I'm really surprised at the poll results. Looks like I'm massively in the minority on this one.

Tottenham Hotspur should stand for something. Teams like Chelsea and Man City have lost their souls, and I don't want that to happen to us. It's hard to pin down exactly what it is we should stand for, but I expect a few quotes from Bill Nick would feature prominently. And it shouldn't just be about the style of football, it should (perhaps more importantly) be about conduct, attitude, and unfashionable concepts like honour and respect.

Berbatov treated our club, his team-mates, and the fans, with absolute contempt. Even if his play metamorphosed into a cross between Messi's and Ronaldo's I wouldn't want him back in our colours.

The only possible exception would be if he publicly and sincerely apologised for his behaviour.

I want our team to be made up of future legends, men that are worthy of being idolised by youngsters. Being good at kick-ball alone is not enough. Not for us.

Still class.

Let's bring him back asap.

Then we can spend the rest of the window securing the young world class forward we need.

This...particularly the text in bold.
I suspect a lot of folk are considering the question retrospectively.
As far as I am concerned, he colluded with Beetroot Head to try to cheat us out of money, he did his part of that collusion by sulking and refusing to play. He created a poisonous atmosphere (or that ITK that is convenient to ignore). And when given permission to travel to Citeh for talks he connived in being taken, instead, to OT.
I, for one, will NOT be forgetting in a hurry the smug jubilation from United fans outside the ground - all live on SSN. Nor will I be forgetting in a hurry that Daniel Levy took clear evidence that United had tapped him up, and the FA's gutless response allowed Beetroot Head his ridiculing parting shot - when he knew he was bang-to-rights. None of this would be possible if BerbaGit had shown a modicum of respect towards our club. UNless I saw genuine remorse I would not want him at our club again - and he is becoming less viable, due to age, anyway.

n.b. this would all, of course, change immediately if AVB/Levy decided to go for him and he was sensational :cautious:

Looking back at all the effort we took in getting Ade to put pen to paper, that effort would have been far better spent on getting Berbatov back in a Spurs shirt imo

I'm hoping that AVB has got a little more about him than just going back to the likes of Berba, though no one doubts his talent.

Anyone who actually tries to understand team formations, patterns and styles.. will get that Berba is the complete opposite to what type of frontman AVB needs so as to build the team he wants. ...

Please let this one go,thankfully it ain't ever going to happen.

I would have to disagree with you slightly. Playin style wise Berba is exactly what we need, he can hold the ball up, create for the likes of Dempsey, Lennon, Bale etc. Berba is the type of player that can play in any team wotever the formation quite simply because he is a great footballer. The one way he doesn't fit is his mentality, his mentality is what has stopped him going down as one of the greats. If he had of applied himself more consistantly he would still be at United.

While I would love to see him in a Spurs shirt again I would never resign him.

A noble sentiment. But somewhat unrealistic in modern football populated by greedy disloyal tosspots.

In reality 90% of footballers are mercenaries and we dont get any awards for being the nice guy losers. love the few, treat the majority like the assets they are. Use and discard.

I would have had him back, I think it would probably have led to CL . Not sure there is any value to it a year down the line.
