Should we keep singing Sol Campbell's song?

if we could stop singing 'stand up if you hate Arsenal' when aren't playing them too that would be great. Its pathetic and makes us look small

Arsenal fans can quite often be heard singing abusive songs at us and generally taking the piss. It's only right that we return the favour.

I don't think you really have the right to critique match day fans chants unless you're willing to put your head above the parapet and start a chant yourself.

We shouldn't stop kicking Sol but we should be a bit more creative, next time he talks shit about Spurs fans being racist or how he's unable to get a Premier League managers job a "always the victim, it's never your fault" chant might be worth a punt.

Makes us look small-time.

As does "stand up if you hate Arsenal.."

It's transparent. If they weren't more successful than us, we wouldn't be singing it, so it makes them feel good, it reinforces their superiority over us in everyone else's minds, and in so doing makes us look stupid. Great work!

Wouldn't be surprised if arse fans (when they wake up from their naps) sing stand up if you hate Tottenham?

On the rare occasions they make any noise?

We don't want to base our identity on them though, do we?

Exactly.

And when we've won more than them, or at least are doing genuinely better than them at some point, it won't matter so much.

It's like WHam singing about us when they're playing Stoke or ManU. We take it as a form of flattery, because it is: they hate us because they resent us, and they resent us because we're better than them and they don't like it.

Move on and while we are at it drop the ever so boring "stand up if you hate arsenal" crap too. Fair enough against them but against Schalke?? We really shouldn't be giving them exposure. It really is small time and makes us look daft. Unless we are playing them they are insignificant to me, I focus on us. They must love the fact the song we sing the most is about them. Their name should not even be uttered in the ground.

Scum do it re. us every game regardless of who they play. Haven't once watched a scum game and not heard them sing it.

I thoroughly enjoyed standing up with my spurs brethren/sistren yesterday and sharing our disgust at their existence.

Was fun and gave me a sense of universal fulfilment.

I don't think chants about hating a player or a club makes us look small at all. But I don't see the point in those chants. I never join in with the SC chants or we hate Arsenal ones.

I like to set a higher standard than what scum fans do tbh.
Sang once or twice is one thing, all the bloody time is pathetic. Would rather support the players on he pitch than waste my breath giving that club acknowledgent.

Putting football aside for a moment, the man is a paranoid mess. To continue baiting him with abuse is, frankly, inhmane considering he clearly has mental health issues, regardless of what he did all them years ago - right now he needs to slide into obscurity for a while and get his head together, else he will end up losing the few marbles he has left. In normal life, if a friend does something out of character and, over time, displays clear signs of a mental illness you either try and get them help or you go your separate ways - you don't take the piss every time you see them in the street for the next 20+ years. Or do you? Man, you'd be some rotten fucker if you did.

I hate what he did, i hate the way he went about business as a player, but i don't hate him as a human being, i feel kinda sorry for him. Perhaps if he was given the chance to sort his bonce out he might start to understand why the fans of every club he ever played for have felt the need to sing mean songs about him, and he might get a better perspective as to the reasons his life and career went the route they have.
The Christian bit of me agrees.

But I have to admit that there's a small bit in the back of my mind that wonders about chicken and egg. Part of me suspects that his issues are entirely self-inflicted. And not in the way that junkies and alcoholics are judged as being responsible for their own issues by some (which I disagree with entirely), but that his issues have been a result of his decisions, which have been a result of his stupefying arrogance, ego, and narcissism.

If he'd shown any humility, ever, then not only would it be a breakthrough for him but would also make it much easier to feel a bit of sympathy for him. But instead, he's done nothing but nurture his twisted Solcentric worldview.

To be honest, a complete breakdown might be the best thing for him in the long run, as it would force him to seek help and acknowledge his past and problems.

Back on topic though - none of that is any reason to continue the chants. I'll just struggle to find much sympathy for him if they do.

*************************

Reading back before posting, just laughed as I realised my use of "Solcentric" - everything revolves around Sol/Sun. How apt...

A colleague at work went to see the scum play at the Emirates last week and she said that they were singing the "stand up if you hate Tottenham.." song - so i don't think your logic applies.

The only answer to this is relevance

Does abusing him still matter? Well whilst he still puts his head above the parapet like his book and media he should take stick as perhaps in the NLD's

He needs to be remind there is still great feeling about his selfish actions

When he disappears from the scene so should the abuse.

I think it was still relevant while ledley king played, but now its outdated... saying that i would love for us to start singing "what do you want to make those eyes at me for" again.

You think that but Arsenal are one of the worst about for signing about Spurs at every given opportunity. It's the only example I can think of where the bigger team in a rivalry seems to have such a chip on their shoulder. Wankshire after their FA Cup victory was embarrassing.
