The best informed reports (Jason Burt, Portuguese press) suggest that it was at least as much AVB's decision as ours.
Wow yeah amazingly I've just read the thread for the first time. I feel so sorry for AVB and I'm getting really sick of Daniel Levy now. I used to like the guy and his style but the more I think about it and the longer he is in charge, the more I realise what affect he's having on the Club. I really think it's him who needs to go.

Why?

Who would do a better job?

We've taken the occasional step back during Levy's time at the club but the overall direction has been steadily forward - despite facing dauntingly unfavourable odds.

So come on, then. If you're so desperate to see Levy gone, let's have a sensible suggestion for an alternative that would do better.

fancy that the manager wanting things done his way. He's the fucking manager that's the very least he should get. Every other successful manager gets successful by doing things his way not by pandering to an over involved chairman

Actually, he was 'head coach'

I know that sounds pedantic but it means he doesn't have total control over team affairs. He signed up to that job description, was given 100m of good players (yes, they're all good) and took several million for it.

So don't feel tooooo sorry for him.

Haha are we really arguing about which type of shite we should have stuck with? But also can I just point out to those who say we should have have stuck to AVB and that everyone who wanted him gone was fickle. Youve given Sherwood 90 minutes and are claiming it proves you right.... how fickle.

442 is stupid. Starting Defoe, Siggurdson, Lennon etc was dumb.

I think the one positive that came out of that debacle is that Ade proved himself and there's no way he would of got the chance under AVB.

Ade was shit, and even after he improves he is one bad mood away from turning shit again (or going awol again). where have you been?

Personally I thought it was a mistake to get rid of AVB why do we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. Really some of our supports need to fucking grow up too 442 open football forget it we moan bitch complain because England bound Arry said so...were going nowhere if we keep on like this.

AVB gone now big mistake imo really pissed off at how the clubs running this... I want us to move forward word around people in the know claim that Sherwood is pretty good. Levy should give him the job NOW! Stick by him especially when he has blips.

Realistically Levy is going nowhere, but the only way we've come forward as a club is financially. The shareholders are winning, the fans are losing. In Levy's time all we have to show for is a League Cup. As a great man once said "Football is about Glory", f**k all glory to be got from an encouraging showing on the stock exchange.

Although, to go back to the original post, I don't think anyone wanted this. The AVB train had come off the tracks and I can't see how any genuine fan would want that to happen. We are in the shit right now and I can't see any decent coach wanting to come to us.

Ronald De Boer? You're having a f******g laugh Tottingham!

Jenko.........what, exactly, is it that you disagree with?

Truly, I am baffled.

I was asking questions. Not making contentious statements.

Or is just that you disagree with the asking of questions? In which case, I guess that I can probably expect another red cross!

Do you have an opinion on the matter? If so, let's hear it.

He wanted a very expensive player and didn't end up getting him. So, instead, he refused to play his other expensive players because they didn't fit his ideal vision. Great managers are versatile.

Jesus. You want me to start naming chairmen we could bring in? As I just posted in the actual thread dedicated to this I'd actually rather he took a step back than to step down. I don't think the chairman should be so involved in the football side of things. All I want is a manager to be backed by him and given more than five minutes regardless of results. I understand if we start completely falling apart and relegation becomes a serious possibility or whatever. Then yeah the manager isn't probably right for the job. But if you look where we actually were when AVB went, that's what I feel is wrong. I feel it's a grave mistake to have stepped in so soon and shown him the door. I'd rather he stepped back, gave the boss more time and see if he will get it right. Especially given what AVB had already achieved I think it's the least he deserved with a completely new team new to each other and new to the league etc.

We've gone from lower table to being a constant presence around the Champions League spots. We play in Europe every year, we have broken dozens of decades-long hoodoos!

What players didn't he play?

Seriously....you believe that we're only better under Levy in terms of revenues or profits?

You don't see a big difference between regular top five finishes and regular relegation battles?

You don't see a big difference between the current squad and the squad that Levy inherited?

You don't see a big difference between Hotspur Way and Spurs Lodge ?

You don't see a big difference between the excellent academy that we now have and the joke of an academy that we did have?

You don't see a big difference between a 45K waiting list for season tickets and no waiting list at all?

...........

...........

Interesting.

Once again, the best informed sources suggest that AVB wasn't sacked.

Well from what you can gather from these best informed sources, why do you think he left? Whether he jumped or was pushed what I said still stands. He should step back and let the manager get on with managing the team.

Many of the players are not good enough. IT IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT. Any manager appointed and asked to finish in the top 4 would ask for at least £50m on players. Daniel Levy is paying the price now for window after window of inaction. This idea that AVB was holding back some kind of Barcelona-style attacking machine was always utter nonsense.

Mate.........the drugs were strong this summer, I take it?

Seriously....you believe that we're only better under Levy in terms of revenues or profits? What I said is we haven't won anything significant, but I'll gladly have a go at you quiz!

You don't see a difference between regular top five finishes and regular relegation battles? Morale Victories

You don't see a big difference between the current squad and the squad that Levy inherited? Achieved the same in terms of trophies

You don't see a difference between Hotspur Way Spurs Lodge ? Did it win an architectural award or something?

You don't see a big difference between the excellent academy that we now have and the joke of an academy that we had? I'll give you that one, but I'm pretty sure we had as many if not more breaking through before

You don't see a big difference between a 45K waiting list for season tickets and no waiting list at all? I'm sure Levy see's the difference in his pocket

...........
How did I Do?

Interesting.

I don't see any huge increase in silverware!
