Can't blame Conte for that. Plenty of opportunities to create the chances to win the game, the players just let us down again (more or less the same players who let Poch, Mourinho and Nuno down).

Excited about the supposed three players we're targetting in January

That was so fucking frustrating. The sort of match that, in a year from now and with better players, we'd absolutely walk. Part of the process but incredibly annoying all the same.

Well that was way too slow, too many touches, poor first touches, zero urgency, and generally pretty poor

When a keeper has control of the ball he/she is allowed six seconds before getting rid of it. In practice, they’re probably given about 10 seconds. If you review the second half, their keeper had comfortable control on probably ten occasions. He held it for maybe five seconds, then flopped to the floor where he remained for another 10 seconds. He then gets up and uses 5-10 seconds to kick the ball out. I really wish referees would stop this piss-taking.

This has always happened unfortunately. It's the same with throw-ins, Saints today were to the extreme stealing 15-20 yards at every single one but all teams do it in all games and it's something referees cannot be bothered to enforce.

Expected that today. We are still massively lacking in quality. For me the difference between finishing 5th-7th and 3rd-4th is our wing backs. They aren't terrible (except Doherty), but very average. In Contes system so much relies on wing backs and ours just aren't good enough in attacking areas. Southampton were quite happy to let us work the ball out wide knowing we wouldn't do much with it. Very disappointing result but a realistic representation of where we are right now.

So that VAR ref who denied Kane’s goal, with pack up, put his coat on a drive home and that’s the end of it. He doesn’t have to give it a second thought, because he wont be held accountable. He wont have to even justify what the f**k he saw that led him to rule that out.

Power + no accountability + no consequences are a very very bad combination.

How many times did we get wide then pass it back and into the middle again where it was congested. Don’t understand why we didn’t fizz more crosses into the box from wide. Liverpool and Man City do it constantly but a mix of high and low crosses. It’s clear Ndombele isn’t in the plans, and Dele doesn’t offer anything either. Doherty is just pure shite and we’ll have to let him run his contract down as no one would be thick enough to buy him now. We have half a dozen players from the first team and subs bench who are average at best, including Dier and Hojbjerg who look good because of how shit we’ve been over the last 2 years.

I think Winks played well and offered a threat.

He was alright but between him and Hojbjerg our play was predominantly slow and laboured. There was a complete lack of both urgency and quality.

Look back on prime Modric, Dembele and Eriksen… constantly looking to progress the ball. Winks and Hojbjerg are a million miles away from what our midfield offered under Poch.

Conte got it wrong and that’s perfectly fine, he'll learn a fair bit from it.

Ref didn’t want us to win once the crowd got on his back.
Yeah I think he bottled it. He gave us a lot of decisions in the first half and then completely shat the bed in the second half.

Bet both sets of fans are annoyed at the refereeing today.

Some really self entitled pricks posting today. Southampton are a decent side who defended brilliantly, we weren't brilliant but we weren't bad and created enough to win (and would have if not for the officiating). Some of our fan base really do make us look like idiots!

Agenda... he was the one causing the most trouble and putting good balls in. His ball for the red card where he skipped past ward prowse and put it on a plate for Son and the ball for Kanes possibly not offside goal were as good as anything we've seen since eriksen left. He also had a couple of panicky moments on the edge of our own box but he was our best player today. Hojbjerg is everything people complain that they think Winks. He is slow in possesion and kills our momentum regularly.

No agenda, he played well and he has done since he came back. I believe he should have delivered the ball better in the box I don't know why that has to be agenda driven. PEH was poor nothing to do with winks or the point I made however

People need to stop bitching about the referee and need to focus on the lack of ability in our team to break a team down
Yep. The decisions were both mabye a bit unlucky but both borderline but the bigger issue is that with the oppo down to 10 men we didn’t have enough quality to put them to the sword.

Conte said we have a lot of players good in transition with speed in behind but we need to work as a team when we have the ball and teams sit deep, today showed that but not only do we as a team and the current players need to improve this, we need to sign 3-4 players of better quality especially in creative and attacking areas.

How badly we need to get another centre forward for times like this.
So incredibly frustrating we didn't win but also incredibly unlucky with the offside (what happened to the thicker lines?) and then the over protection for their keeper.
We really need to learn how to bury teams like this. Who know maybe without a 48 hour turnaround we have more in the tank to turn the screw. Tired legs lead to poor finishing maybe.

Wouldn't mind us signing Ward-Prowse. A much-needed attacking midfielder, top-quality set-piece taker, and maintains Southampton's hatred of us for pinching their best players and managers.
I never get the Ward-Prowse love. Granted, he's great on deadballs, bang average elsewhere. I get the feeling, some will him to do well because he small or looks like he should be bowling off-spin for a County cricket team.

I’m frustrated but not moaning about the result… the obligatory ‘it is what it is’. Many times we’ve come away with three points thinking ‘how the heck did we get away with that ‘.
