Despite the dodgy decisions I still don’t think we showed enough to take it…as others have said, we never seem to go for the throat when it’s there in front of us…we still lack that ruthless streak that’s in the really good teams. Having said that the improvement in the same players is there for all to see…but some of them still need to go….Doherty and Alli being top of the list. They’ve had their chances and have let them slip by..I’ve been one of the biggest critics of Sanchez, and I still think he’ll end up going but he’s improving every game

Fair enough pal, my fault too for not adding the quote so no context on my post. Easily in our top two players along with Kane and like you said before, one of the few players that could definitely slot into any top 4 side and not look out of place ?
Should also have added I've had a few beers ? ?

Back from the game, watched it in the Southampton end (painful) their biggest cheers were when our goals were disallowed haha. Disappointed in Dele today, he just seemed to slow everything down and has no pace anymore. It’s a real shame as I thought he was getting back to the player he was a few seasons ago after the Liverpool match. Very frustrating game but now I’ve looked at the highlights and saw the goals that were disallowed should have been allowed, I’m even more gutted. We’ll just have to take this one on the chin and move on. Two massive points dropped though ?

I went to the game today with some friends who were Saints fans and the best thing about the whole match was our away supporters, they sang nigh on the whole time, drowning out the home support. Brilliant club supporters.

Great to come away from an away game against a side with good home form disappointed not to get a win at the end of the day. Massive improvement on last season already when we were lucky to get these type of results. Decent attacking stats at least and a win on the weekend will put us right back on track

I guess one thing I learned today, if Davies is going to play that left centre back roll we need another left back/wingback.
Another thought if Doherty is playing Left Wingback and you swap your Right Wingback for Gil wouldn't it have perhaps been an idea to swap Doherty to the right where he's most comfortable and play Gil on his natural left side?
I completely agree. Completely obvious. What was Conte thinking? Just stupid. Doherty and Gill just look rubbish so but maybe playing them on their best sides might help them. Though they just aren’t good enough.

We lacked the guile to break them down in the end. Disappointing, but our first 40 didn’t deserve us a great deal.

Alli was poor, as were Reggie and Hojbjerg.

We’re going to need reinforcements in January.

Not at our best but we should have won the game had the rub if the green gone our way.

I keep reading from twitter experts that Salisu is a top player teams like us need to buy, well on this display he is a million miles away.

Southampton are one of the most naive teams I've seen. They were running round like a ball in a China shop. Yeah it was effective but that's only because the ref was being a lenient. This game was made for N'dombele he would have been drawing challenges and breaking their b and m version of the Liverpool press all over the place.

In the end after the sending off we huffed and puffed but didn't do enough. Winks despite a couple of nice moments where he played some beautiful through balls didnt dictate the tempo enough for me and holjberg was totally ineffective . Son was also really poor.

The transfer window is going to be very very interesting.

So seeing someone onside called offside means I need to grow up, ok. Now we got that out of the way stop talking shit mate, total bullshit call at the very least as I understood it attackers have been given the benefit this season, that was a great goal from a great pass should have stood.
I agree - what is the point of VAR if it only takes goals away. To say it is to get the correct decision is wrong. They can’t say Kane has a small part of his arm offside. It’s a stupid guess. The moment the ball moves forward changes the decision one way or another so the frame they select changes the picture. Then drawing stupid lines, at angles, to point up to parts of arms so just made up rubbish. If the decision had been given against Southampton I would have thought it was wrong then too. It’s not clear and only takes away from the game. It shows that people making decisions about football don’t understand it properly at all.

The issue was not how we played. The issue was that we had two perfectly good goals disallowed.

Don't lose sight of that.

It wouldn't matter if Soton were all over us all game, if you have have to score 3 goals to go 2-1 up then that is just fucking wrong.

We were robbed robbed today.

We've seen our last 3 opponents go down to ten men. I can't ever remember seeing anything like that before.

Their game plan was to challenge everyone and they did but they made a load of fouls doing it. So when GHoddle was going on about how good they were it was because they were playing on the edge and often just fouling us, hence the yellow cards they got. We started to come into the game when they slowed down.
Once they went down to 10 it was a different game and we didn’t have the tools to win. That was also down to the manager getting it very wrong. Conte was too conservative and made poor decisions. He is to blame too. Though he might be trying to make a point to the management how bad our squad is.

Liverpool couldn’t break down Leicester at the end then. It’s tough to break down two banks of players sitting deep.
That’s why the two goals ruled out are so key, you don’t get many opportunities like that in tight defensive games.

Yeah it makes me feel better seeing that for sure. Not because of the result but as you say, because of the nature of the struggle. I still think there can be legitimate frustrations today, at the end of the day if Conte is visbily frustrated you can't blame fans for being so also. Like you say though it's not always easy against a team completely sat back.

Let's hope we put things right against Watford, although even if we don't it doesn't mean a great deal as this isn't Conte's team yet, but it will still be frustrating to throw away a chance of top given the position we've gotten ourselves into, how open it is and especially with Arsenal lingering around there!

The difference is for Liverpool it’s an outlier, 99% of the time they find a way for us we never look like we know how to break teams down.

its not easy but we have a team of runners, functional players lacking multi dimensional facets to their games and we need to recruit players who can contribute in more ways

We are all saying (me included) that we should have won. But in reality, we did what we needed to do to win, put the ball in the net, but due to shocking decisions, they were disallowed. The Docs one could have went either way, but Kanes goal was so onside, but fuck it. Anyway, Doherty, Deli and possibly Winks, didnt do anything to help their cause. Dele is the biggest disappointment for me over the past few years. So much talent, burst onto the scene, then got distracted and he went like the ole Simon & Garfunkel song, "Slip Sliding Away". Shame really. Talent without application is nothing
Dele was never amazing but he was benefitting from an amazing team around him when he first came to Spurs.
