I said that we don't get much from Dier in attacking sense and just realised he got two assists :ROFLMAO:

His delivery today was consistently fantastic, both deep crosses and through-balls.

I haven't even seen a Spurs player try a through-ball since Holtby left.

Great young player.Never gives up and can only get better. We need too get him too sign that contract.Mason is up and coming very fast aswell but maybe we need too sign a more experience player this summer too play with them.
Would love us to get Milner to complement those 2

5th place looking down on the likes of the bindippers is better than looking up at them. They still have to win their two games in hand, and that's far from a certainty.

Overall I thought the team played really well in patches, worked hard but again inconstant. We really lack runners and a Ginola or Gazza to work some magic. I just wish Lamala and Chadli would let go at times, hold onto the ball and have a real go. We have some really talented players...forget the safe passing and have a go at the other defence. No support for Kane today and he was forced to play wide at times, when he should be in the middle. I am not going to be negative like some. A draw at Southhampton is a good result in anyone's book. This is a very young team developing well just needs more believe.

Davies is a bit rusty, he hasn't had many games, he should be cut some slack imo.
You're correct of course and a lot of the negativity coming from our fans (myself including) is born out of frustration from the fact that his errors today lead to goals

However he was more than rusty today - he looked like a lower league defender completely out of his depth and represents the failings we've had in the transfer market in the last few windows and how they've stunted our progression

The Bale window was bad because so much money was misspent but equally the window which saw us bring in Davies, Stambouli and Fazio was equally frustrating because aside from Dier we really didn't bring in anyone of any quality and if it wasn't for some of our youngsters stepping up this season we would taken so many steps backwards years of work would have been undone (more than already have been)

Davies might not be as bad as I and others are suggesting but he wasn't a player we should have signed and rusty or not he was pretty awful today

You say 'Davies and Dier are incapable of producing in an attacking sense',
but didn't Dier supply the cross for the first goal and the through ball for Chadli's goal?

If you saw my post afterwards I already said I'd just realised that. Or see above.

Think revelation is generous. He's been very productive, but if he's not scoring then he's usually pretty anonymous in games.

If his goals came as winners may be you might have a different opinion - most of his goals has been either first goals or equalizers.Dont forget his contribution in the games including Chelsea & Arsenal.
Often he changed the game with his goals. Most if not all his goals came in open play.

Last season - scored or assisted a goal every 363 minutes in PL
Last season - scored or assisted a goal every 133 minutes in PL

Anyone who shows such a improvement in one season has been a revelation IMHO

I couldn't really tell to be honest mate, I think a lot of the time these things are easier to see when watching on TV.

I would agree with most of that, I think Davies will want out soon because he is ambitious and won't want to be back up for too much longer. We will probably have to make do with him for now, because there is no way we are going to get rid of all the deadwood. The million dollar questions for me is who was responsible for last summers signings? Did Poch approve these signings?

So many signings spanning multiple windows - there are surely more than one person at fault

The most logical answer is that Levy is the common denominator. Rightly or wrongly I feel he must at least shoulder a great deal of the blame

I really just hope now we have new people in place to handle these affairs we will stop repeating these mistakes as frequently and start making more of the Modric/Bale/Berbatov type signings again

Yep Fazio was the only defender actually defending, Dier was good going forward Vertonghen was Vertonghen poor, Davies had a nightmare.

Mason slipped and in fairness to him lots of players were slipping it was also brought to our attention by the commentary nevertheless he slipped but still managed to get the ball to Davies who messed it all up.

Pls point out his other mistakes.
He slipped because instead of clearing the ball the way he was facing, forward, he decided to run into a Southampton player, turn towards his own goal and only then did he slip and play a panicky ball towards Davies, yes Davies should have hoofed it off but he shouldn't have been put in that position.

As you mention Modric/Bale/Berbatov. Levy was here then. I blame Baldini first and foremost. Yes, we've made poor signings in the past but we've also made good signings too. Win some, lose some.

He decided to run into a Southampton player? Are you sure!... I have to watch that again.
When you trace that goal back Mason was chasing back because Vertonghen was out of position he got the ball then slipped however got the ball back to Davies who really did mess it all.

He may well be to blame - I'm sure he's at least partly to blame

Although its difficult to know without knowing what the extent of his involvement was in the scouting/recommending/signing of these players and who else had involvement and to which extent each were at fault

I don't know what goes on behind the scenes unfortunately - I only know that someone/s have made several very poor signings and I can only hope that we will no longer make such mistakes

Dropped points to WBA today so only above us on Goal difference now

Aside from Man City we have a fairly favourable run in - although they too have a relatively "easy" run in on paper (Chelsea aside)

They're clearly favourites to come 5th but we're in with a chance - in truth Southampton have as much chance as us though and 7th still looks more likely than 5th with 6th being a heated race between us and the Saints

If you have a spare tenner put it on Villa to beat Man City.
Today's result against Saints we would have been happy with a few weeks ago, given we all thought Burnley and Villa were points in the bag.
So, as in CP beat Citeh, Villa will do likewise!
