There has been substantial speculation in respect of the futures of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, including press comment from both Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez. In response our Chairman, Daniel Levy has made the following statement:
"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players. It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.
"This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United. Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.
"The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct.
"Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the Club's permission.
"I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence. This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.
"Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt."

Oh my god, I am really shocked to read this - good for Levy - but it sounds really certain that the two of them will go as 'their heads have been turned'. But surely we should not sell to those two revolting specimens. This situation is ridiculous - I am now willing Barca to get Dimitar and - well I really don't know about Robbie. If he's disrupting the dressing room it's got to stop - but I would be devastated if he left (or Dimitar of course).

I am so glad Daniel Levy has stood up to the bullies - let's hope he can salvage something from this.

I was at a dinner where SAF was the guest speaker - I wish I'd poisoned him now!

Now would be a good time for Levy to place a 1 year embargo on doing business with both these clubs no? If not at least publically doubling the clubs bottom line selling price to those two.

Well, we've already got millions of quid from Chavski for tapping up Arnensen. It looks like we're after some more tapping up compensation cash from manure and the scousers.

The bad news is the following statement, which is quite incredible coming from a club chairman:

"I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence. This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively."

It's very hard to imagine them staying now.

I would sell Berba to Barca to spite Fergie, and see if we can sell Keano outside the EPL too.

If the Premier League had balls, they would forbid both players going to those particular clubs because of this, otherwise what's the point of having rules in the fucking first place.

As for the players, assuming Levy is being truthful about the disruptive influence, then they can fuck off. I understand Berby wants to play for the best team in the world and Keano wants to play for his supposed childhood team, but if they're being ****s about it, the sooner they fuck off the better. There are ways and means of dealing with situations like these, but if they're acting this bad that has forced Levy to mention it in the statement, then that's just ruined their whole time at Spurs and the bond they had with the fans. SAF and Raf have been absolute wankers throughout this and i sincerely hope Rafa Benitez in particular dies of a heart attack tonight, the fucking ugly goatee bearded ****.

Both players are on medium to long term contracts, the situation is the same as ManU face with Ronaldo and Real Madrid, it is in THFC's control to not sell them and get on with the existing squad.
The club, through Levy's announcement, seems to be taking this stance. If they were about to be sold why would the club report both ManU and Liverpool to the PL and make this public statement.

There's some fight to go yet, lets stand up and take control.

This could be Levy's way of appeasing the fans ahead of an inevitable sale. The last para suggests he isn't going to dig his heals in. A PR offensive is the term I believe.

It means Levy has garaunteed that both will end up costing both clubs a great deal of money. Transfer fee + compensation. Levy has history after successfully getting 8 million when his director of football eff'd off to Chelsea.

if they want to go, let them, but not without a fight for a proper transfer fee, I'm talking £30m for Berba and £20m for keane, at least.

Daniel Levy has shown us, yet again, that we won't take any shit.

Go Levy!

Brilliant statement. Love you, Levy. What a shitter of a situation and we don't just not lie there, we don't even just try to weasle money out of them but we a) report the ****s to the authorities (which nothing will come of, but it's the right thing to do) and, most importantly, lift the lid on their way of business.

These people are corrupt. They flout rules and don't get caught out. It's one thing when a Bolton or a Middlesboro get done, but I think (well, hope) they fucked up royally by doing it with us. Levy WILL do everything in his power to bring these bastards to boot. And I suspect right now (maybe he's been planning this anyway) other PL Chairman are lining up alongside him.

It's all bloody go at the Lane, eh? Never a dull moment. And apparently a couple of our players might be leaving or something...

I think more than that. Whether an inflated transfer fee for each as an appeasement for us to drop it or an enforced compensation package, to go on-top of the normal fees.

I think Keane will be 25m + and Berb 30+

To be honest I’m suspicious of the motives behind this statement. We know the club monitor message boards etc and would be aware that the fans have been calling for something like this. But what do they gain from it? In reality probably nothing and they know this. Essentially they are saying we are outraged, but Berba and Keane are probably off.

I don’t blame them for making the statement and I’d do the same. But for me personally it wasn’t necessary. I don’t blame Levy et al if they are sold, as when a player wants to leave, there is little point keeping them. I kind of feel that this statement is to appease fans who think the club aren’t doing enough to keep our top players, when in reality there isn’t much they can do. It suggests we are coming out fighting, when we probably aren’t really, other than over the prices. Just my opinion and I stress again I don’t blame Levy and understand what he’s done, but I think it’s just a rabble rousing PR stunt, essentially done to cover their backs with the more unrealistic fans. He’s basically using the statement to explain why the players will probably be sold and doing under the “cover” of outrage.

Does anyone think this statement will do anything to stop the deals going through? Or more likely smooth relations with fans, in preparation for their sales? I definitely think the second option and if I were in Levy’s shoes, I’d do the same.
