Firmino/Volland scored again this past weekend.

Here's Firmino's nice little chip:

And here's Volland's:

The kid United are interested in that was mentioned on Football Focus is a hell of a player, saw him at the Milk Cup before and he looked very talented.

Forget Baines: This Left-Back Who Wins 92% Of His Tackles Is Ideal For Spurs
By Joel Ramey

Posted on October 20, 2013

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham were set to rival Manchester United’s bid to land Everton left-back Leighton Baines. This shouldn’t have come as a surprise, given Danny Rose is the only recognised left-back Andre Villas-Boas has in his squad following the loaning out of Benoit Assou-Ekotto to Queen’s Park Rangers. But doing a deal for the talented Englishman is far from simple, as United found out, meaning that Spurs may have to look elsewhere. One good option worth considering is Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez.

The 21-year-old joined the German outfit in January 2012 and, but for a short spell on the bench under interim manager Lorenz-Gunther Kostner last season, he has done well as the club’s first-choice left-back. He has started the current season in fine form despite Wolfsburg’s poor start, earning a Performance Score of 203 points after eight games, a tally which is bettered only by three other team-mates.

Ricardo Rodriguez Duels Won

He is hard-working in defence, currently ranking sixth in the Bundesliga for successful tackles with 24, having attempted 26, an average of 3.3 per game. An average of 1.4 fouls conceded per game, however, indicates he can be a bit clumsy at times. In addition, he has made 11 interceptions and an average of 4.1 clearances per game. He is also good in the air, which isn’t too common among modern full-back’s, winning 67% of his headed duels to date.

upload_2013-10-21_8-49-28.png

Going forward he is quite effective, and has continued to prove that this season. He has good pace and likes to take on opponents, completing an average of one take-on per game. After getting past his man, he is keen to supply the telling cross–and his crossing has been quite good so far. He has attempted an average of 2.3 per game, finding a target with 33% of them. A striker is top of Spurs’ agenda this January. One with height would relish playing with Rodriguez.

The Switzerland international can also take set pieces and, averaging a huge pass length of 25 metres, he likes to play long balls over the top in order to influence attacks, attempting an average of 8.3 per game so far. But having completed just 51% of these, thus seeing him complete just 77% of his passes in general, it’s best he keep things short and simple.

Overall, the 13 chances he has created is the second-highest among Bundesliga defenders and is the joint-highest of defenders in the English Premier League, who have played one game less.

Given his age, quality, and potential, he would provide stiff competition for Danny Rose, 23, for years to come. Should a move for Baines prove too difficult to complete, then Villas-Boas would be wise to consider Rodriguez.

How can he have made 22/24 successful tackles as well as conceding 19 fouls?

I would like for us to go all out to get Montoya on a pre-contract this January. He will be leaving for free in the summer.

The 19 includes times he has been fouled. It is 10 fouls committed, 9 received.

Maybe the 10 were made up of pushes in areal duels, pulling a player back when they were past him, obstuction etc.

^ I've been pushing Ricardo Rodriguez for the past year, he's outstanding, one of the most underrated players out there. I watched him at the U17 WC back when Switzerland won it and could tell he was gonna be one of the best LBs at some point. Being Swiss I've followed him for a while, he's got the LB spot locked up. Has the physical attributes, is great in defense (one of the rarer modern cases of a fullback who seems to know the art of defense better than going forward) and at the same time can play very well going forward. Has a great left foot on him. Would be an outstanding signing, seeing as how Wolfsburg are kind of stalling in midtable it won't be long until someone goes after him, he'll get all sorts of good reviews at the World Cup too of course. Really, really good player, been saying it for years.

Mirellas, Everton. Enough said. Anyone else think he's tasty?

I have always enjoyed watching Mirallas play. That being said, I think Kevin Volland is becoming very Mirallas-esque.

I've been critical of Volland in the past, primarily due to his play for the Germany U21s. He was pretty brutal in the U21 Euros and wasted over a handful of chances (most of them provided by Holtby which made it that much more frustrating). But, it can't be denied that he's having a really strong club campaign. Similar frame, similar positional ability and at a younger age on a team that would likely sell him, he may be a viable alternative.

Yuto Nagatomo

Don't know if he's been mentioned before but I'd love to see him as our left wing back.
Speedy, never stops running. Tenacious and tough. Good crossing, always pushing ahead. Amazing work rate.
Seems to playing at LM for Inter more and more though.

So anyone been watching the u17 world cup? I saw the last 2 Croatia games as they're on at a watchable time for me, mainly to see how Halilovic plays

I have followed Volland myself since his 1860 days. I thought he would turn into a little Rossi where he didn't play the line but still got mountains of goals. He's starting to do that although I don't think anyone can play down the role that Modeste is doing which quite clearly helps him. Last season and for the U21's in the summer, when I saw him on his own upfront he invariably struggled as he couldn't get involved in the game. He seems to need a strike partner to stretch things for him.

He's a player I very much like but he's one of those where I don't see how he fits into our current system.

Anyone seen much of Ben Davies at Swansea? Every time I've seen him play he's looked class, although admittedly that's only across a few games. If we end up wanting a young player to cover Rose he could be a shout.

I prefer Taylor, was Swansea's best player before he had that horrific injury. He is back now and getting some game time again.

This kid reminds me a lot of Aubameyang (@Snarfalicious ) . I think I will try to watch a game of his this weekend, as it's hard to tell if he's the product of real talent, or a poor league.

of all the "next ronaldos" I hope Spurs go for Jese - if of course any of the links are semi-legitimate :mask:

still thinking Kevin Volland is an "on the cheap" DL type signing though... :ninja:

Volland having a good season on a team that cannot keep him :watching:
