Two changes to the side that started at West Brom before the international break - Serge Aurier and Steven Bergwijn, who memorably scored on his debut in this fixture last season, come in for Matt Doherty and Gareth Bale. Gareth is on the bench.

TEAM FORM: Spurs WLWWW ------ Man City DWWWD
==== (All Competitions)

We can send a message to the rest of the Premier League that we are serious contenders for the Premier League title when Manchester City visit us Saturday evening. We are in a rich vein of form and will go top for the night if we can beat City, with third-placed Liverpool hosting leaders Leicester City on Sunday night.
City have 12 points from seven games, one fewer than us, and are in need of a win as they are already six points adrift of Leicester.

We have become a solid outfit under José Mourinho in his first full season in charge and are grinding out results. City have not hit their stride in terms of attacking prowess this season, scoring only 10 in seven league matches. They have drawn three of their last five in the league. We possess the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League at seven matches after our 1-0 home defeat by Everton in their opening game. A win against City would be our fourth in a row in the top-flight, the first time we would have achieved that feat since February 2016, and we have an excellent recent home record against City.

In the past five seasons we have won four and lost one of our home league meetings against City, and have also inflicted a defeat on them in the Champions League. In fact, our tally of 24 Premier League wins against City is second only to Chelsea, who have won 26. We have lost one of our last 14, a 1-0 Europa League defeat by Antwerp, but City cannot be discounted. They have lost only one of their last 12 in all competitions and Pep Guardiola is a master at getting the better of Jose, his record of 10 wins from 23 meetings in all competitions being the best of any coach against the Portuguese.

We have scored in the first of half of our previous three home games but have shown we are still fragile at the back. We went ahead against Newcastle United before conceding late in a 1-1 draw, and we threw away a 3-0 lead against West Ham in the second half to walk away with only a point. Our previous home game was a 2-1 win against Brighton, but we still conceded, and if this City team are on form they are clinical enough to make our defence pay for any mistakes. City’s four away league games this season have all featured at least one first-half goal – three of them for Guardiola’s men. In their most recent outing against Liverpool the Reds took the lead after a fast start, leaving City having to chase the game early on, which we can see us trying to replicate.

There will be plenty of attacking talent on display on Saturday night and goals are a given when we meet. There have been 21 meetings since the last scoreless draw in August 2010. Kane is the obvious choice with the our talisman being involved in 23 goals in 14 matches in all competitions this season, scoring 13 times.
Gabriel Jésus impressed against Liverpool with his slick equaliser and has been involved in 11 goals in 11 games in all competitions, scoring eight, including three in his last three appearances for City.

Bookies have City as overwhelming favourites, no idea why.

Thought the odds would be close on this one.

I'm going 2-1 Spurs. Son brace.

Be nice to see Son on the score sheet. Been absolute donkey dick for the last 2 games.

Interesting stats regarding both teams players from the International break. Spurs players had a lot of assists:

Son - 2
GLC - 2
Bale - 2
Winks - 2
Kane - 1
Sergio - 1

Man City players had a lot of goals though:

Torres - 3
Rodri - 1
Foden - 2
Dias - 1
De Bruyne - 1

But Spurs had 5 national captains:

Lloris - France
Aurier - Ivory Coast
Kane - England
Bale - France* (Edit: Wales, obvs.)
Son - South Korea.

This has got 0 - 0 written all over it, right?

This is a must not lose game. Returning after the last international break we were a little flat but got on with it and did well.
Hoping to see fluency up front as with the early games. A good team structure as the last few games and a battling spirit we seem to be promoting. No excuses, no mistakes.

Having to keep our defence tight and focused of course is a must, but the fact that City are more than happy to attack, could suit our counter attack game a treat.

Really big game. It is not season defining just yet, but will be a big statement if we win. The top of the table is very close, but by New Year I think those capable of winning the title will begin pulling away.

Really hope we don't lose this on a simple error.

Interesting stats! Maybe one correction? Who did Bale pass the armband to when he came off?

Yes, was Rodon. I'm more thinking about nominated captains though rather than players who were nearest to the skipper when he was subbed ;)

I'd take a draw right now, to be honest.

Why? City have looked flat for most of the season.

Obviously they could turn it on and turn us over but, equally, we could cause them real problems with the space Walker etc leaves in behind.

This is a proper six pointer isn’t it. I actually fancy us to get a result which probably means we will lose. I fucking hate City with a passion.
