We've only played some good stuff recently because Dier's been taken out of the midfield. Sissoko and Winks must be fucked, Eriksen too and you can understand why Poch is still a little reluctant to throw Skipp in as a starter as he's just turned 18.

Your general point is probably right, but we still need better midfielders, no doubt. Winks, Skipp and Sissoko should be squad players in this moment, but neither Dier, Dembele or Wanyama are good enough to be ahead of them. Mousa and Victor are not fit enough and Dier is just not good enough in midfield. I'd hope we bring at least one in there, promote Skipp and drop Dier back into defence to replace Toby.
Yeah I do agree. However, I do feel that what we were lacking in the second half was some security in the midfield. I think if we have Dier or Wanyama on the bench today, they come on and I think we could’ve shut out Wolves.

As you say though, we do certainly need to strengthen.

I disagree, a fit Dembele and Wanyama are more than good enough.

P.S actually Dier too tbh. Sure hes had duff moments but he's had some really good games too.

I don't think it sets us back at all. I think we all agree we still ahead of plan but these moments are why Toby and Eriksen look elsewhere. We need to stop sitting back. We just can't do it. It's not a Poch thing, Redknapp thing or AvB thing, it's a Spurs thing. We always do it as soon as we publicly state we title challengers
We were never title challengers instead we briefly intruded into something that had fuck all to do with us.

But they're never fit though that's the problem so they can't be relied upon anymore. Gone are the days of the beastly 16/17 partnership i'm afraid. They're either injured or play at 70% when they're on the pitch.

I just plain disagree on Dier but that's another debate.

Well, I've read through the entire thread - a lot of (understandably, but still maybe a little too) hysterical postings and some well-balanced ones too.

I'm disappointed. Not for the ramifications of the loss, but for the manner of it. The way we lost is not acceptable.

I'm now going to try and salvage the weekend by playing Master of Orion and watching Babylon 5 until my eyes bleed.

Nobody can tell me the phasing of games doesn’t have an effect on our performance today. Cardiff isn’t looking like it will be any easier either by the way.

The bench we had today lacked Dier, Lamela, Vertonghen, Aurier, Dembele and Wanyama, would that be change enough? wouldn't it help to have them back, even half of them back? In fact it would have helped us to have half of them in the team on the pitch but they weren't available and, despite all the talk of bottles, the injuries have cost us, we've all been congratulating Sissoko over the last month but Christ we've run him into the ground.
Wolves are not the typical promoted side, due to the set up there with the agents involvement they have players on their books with real ability and enormous experience who took advantage of the situation today and we just didn't have the reinforcements, it's no surprise as someone posted, that we had 109 misplaced passes.
I appreciate that we need to flip our lids and run around in ever decreasing circles bemoaning the fact that we are legends who will never win a trophy and won't even make top four now but there are extenuating factors and we ought to recognise them, we may not win the league now and if not I have no doubt those factors will be relevant.
I'm disappointed but I'm not going to lose it and start slagging off everyone from Lloris to Levy, we go again with still half a season to go.

of all the players you mentioned lamela is the only one who can have any attacking impact from the bench, & we cant exactly rely on him to be fit for the rest of the season, son will be missing for a few games soon & llorente is awol, we have to pray we dont get any injuries in the attacking areas because moments like today where we aren't clinical like we have been, its the bench where you look to & hope for someone to help kill the game off

What changes are you expecting

well clearly we need to acquire an attacking addition because as shown today, we had only 1 game changing sub on the bench. Son will be missing a few games, Lamela is injured & Llorente is on his way, We cant rely on all our attackers to be fit for the rest of the season because as shown today when one is injured & you need options from the bench, theres little to look to for help

I don't disagree but where is the money for this our transfer activity indicates the likes of llorente, nkoudou or njie as attacking options none of whom are good enough.
There is also the matter of the CM position which we are weak in and again this has still not been addressed again like the attacking options we just won't pay the money, so where does that leave us starting in January with the same old problems of can't shift anyone because we want a neymar fee for our cast offs and wonder why other club's refuse to deal with us.

Not quite true. We were very good first 30 minutes but backed off after the goal.

Then we just couldn't get out of first gear second half. I'm not usually one to moan about players looking "leggy" - which some mistake for when we are managing the game. However, it was very clear early in the second half that Wolves were coming at us slowly but surely but we couldn't find a gear to go up to to match them. Then you looked at the bench and went... Ah... we're in trouble.

And so it proved.

But you just said we're not aiming for the title, didn't you?

Can't we just be a very good team, overcoming a major injury crisis and no home ground without also being mentally weak losers every single time a result goes against us?

Mate we are a good team nothing should detract from that but as for injuries well that's standard for every team, the ground thing is not really that relevant seeing as this is the second season playing there and as for weak losers the team always struggles when there are big things at stake like today or when we blew out against Leicester and WBA in Leicesters title winning season or losing both FA cup semi-finals in recent years.
The club takes great credit for all that it has achieved and rightly so but also it has to take flack for always stumbling at major hurdles when there is a glimmer of glory to be had, it just cannot seem to get something over the line even signing players last time out as well was a problem.
No one is being unduly negative it's just that we are so close and yet remain as far away as ever and no one has the answer to it.

Worryingly, the thing for me today was how we couldn't lift the team all through the 2nd half. Wolves support gave them that push when they needed it most.
I wondered if this was the case. I rarely go to games so I can’t comment on atmosphere but i thought if we played this at home instead of Wembley the crowd would pull us through. This is what Poch has been alluding to recently.

No, no..... Social media has ensured reasoned, measured and rational dialogue won't happen!
