Squad still not good enough in my opinion to be adding midweek games to it.. I wish it was, but there may need to be more summer additions, and we'd need to start clicking like a mother*****.
We will add 5-6 this summer I think and then we will really need Europe to keep them all happy and give everyone rhythm.

We'll turn it around, but we must work on our defensive set up and get back to starting games faster.

Starting all flat just allows the opposition to settle into their game plan....basically we're allowing them to execute it.
I wonder if the injuries are a big part of that slow start. It's like they're pacing themselves as they're worried they'll pull up injured later on the game. I remember early under Conte we were relentless and then after a while we were starting games really slow. We don't want to fall back to that habit. Hopefully with more players fit again they'll get back to full speed and trust their fitness to start quick. It feels a bit pre season easing ourselves back of late.

You know at the end of the day its about intensity, on and off the ball.

Raise the tempo, make something happen...dont wait for it to happen.

Pass and move quicker, one two touch, make more off the ball runs.

Press more effectively, get the triggers on point.

All these things were off today and it makes it much easier for the oppositiion.

Its Ange's responsibility to recognise and rectify it.

We use to see this way too much at home, over the years under various managers, and its rearing its ugly head again...a bit anyway.

I use to have a good record of calling a result at home based on the first 5/10 minutes of how we started the game, based on our intensity/tempo.
I was going to post almost exactly the same. All that passing around their box without a final product was just awful and easy to play against. They were just waiting to pick us off on the break. We were well off it today and got everything we deserved.

Is your angle that these rich young men should do better and stay with the teams that on average have richer young men?
My angle is that decades of underachievement breeds a casual club. And despite all the inputs, including millionaire players all over the place, we seem unable to break through. The manager is the focal point of our fortunes, and we have abelter of one again after 3 miserable ones. But the player mentality issue is well anchored.

"Lads, it's Tottenham" isn't just a meme, it's systemic. And I'm not on about needing to win trophies. I'm on about not shipping 6 points to wolves when the stakes are high.

Today was like Mourinho and Conte at their worst. Slow ponderous side to side passing. On the odd occasion when we got into advanced positions we pissed about trying to walk it in. We need to mix it up against packed defences, shoot when you have a sight of goal instead of trying to pick out a player in amongst 5 defenders.

Positive spin.

We haven't been playing well and have taken 20 pts from 10 games.

What if we do click?- you have to imagine we will do.

How many points will we then take?

I think the ghost of Conte and Jose is at large here. Remember when we were playing so poorly yet picking up wins and everyone kept saying just wait until we click but alas it was the people that were saying that eventually our luck will run out that were proved correct.

Said the same in the manager thread. Son needs to play centrally because he actually can shift the ball, shoot and score. All the other tippy tappy teams score in multiple ways, but they all score loads of their goals from pull backs and shooting or by shifting and shooting from the edge of the box. We scored one recently from Richarlison and I can't think of any more!!
We also need to man mark on set pieces and stop giving away free headers.

We're Spurs. We don't buy players we really need to fit a system - we buy potential and require a manager who's able to mould them into a team. That's why we need a plan A v1.1, v1.2 and so on - if not an outright plan B.
At Spurs flexibility is key. That's why Conte failed. But the question whether Ange does have the required nous and flexibility is at this point very much open to debate.
I agree with some of your thinking; that we buy potential and mould them rather than buy ready-made players that fit a system.

However I draw a diff conclusion to you. I don't think we need plan B etc. I think it would be too tall an order to buy sub-optimal players with the expectation that they can play multiple systems at PL level.

I think what we are doing is good enough as it is. Buy potential and mould them to fit one system (Ange's). Accept that because we don't have enough match-winning individuals (Son being the only 1), we would struggle against teams that nullify this (low block + counter). I think this shoudl still be good enough to get us back to Europe.

Not particularly surprised. We havent looked great in our last few games. The sharpness, intensity and pressure in our forward play just hasn't been there and have looked far too open defensively.

Two very poor goals conceded today. We haven't got a forward who is going to give defenders sleepless nights. The way we play, our forwards will always be in the game but we are missing someone with that x factor.

After Kane left, ideally we needed more of an established forward of some sort to try and mitigate his loss but opted for someone with potential who can push on. Maybe the opportunities just weren't there but do feel next summer we need to bring someone in who gives us that spark and brings the crown alive when the ball is at his feet.

We are having a good season but that doesnt mask the fact that losing Kane and bringing in Johnson, Solomon and Werner to reinforce our forward line isn't adequate. Never going to get a player on his level but do feel we need to be aiming higher.

I just watched the ManC Chelsea game and though Chelsea didn’t set up as defensively as Wolves did ManC play the same type of game as we do with the defense up high. Chelsea had as many, if not more, chances on the counterattack as Wolves did against us.
This would suggest that rather than Ange changing his philosophy he should double down on it until it’s second nature to the players and then gradually upgrade the players we have.

I want to preface my comment by saying this is not an Ange out one. Not in the slightest. But based on what we have witnessed since the season started and the euphoria around Ange's style of football, if he can't get these players to win these type of games, then we are fucked. We upgraded our squad and with players he wanted. On paper we are better than Wolves but why couldn't he motivate them to do better. I'm at a loss to be honest. I know he's not a magician but he's a manager and a coach of players. There's a difference

I'm not sure what you mean here.

I mean, come on, you could make this post about any manager who loses any game. Sometimes teams win, sometimes teams lose and there's a whole raft of things in between, including 'better' teams who fail to get expected results. It's been disappointing performance wise and that's football, sometimes the expectation on here is so high we forget where we came from and how not very far we are along the process and it seems to me that for some people the expectation on here is what you'd think it would be were we the finished article

And before anyone says but we should expect to beat Wolves, don't be so fucking lazy and think beyond that :D

we're just too easy to score on, and thats on Ange.
Yes and no. He gives the players clear instructions on how he wants them to play. Losing the ball and making mistakes is not part of the instruction. He's not the one responsible for their errors on the pitch.

We were easy to score against when we played a low block under Conte and Jose too. We were easy to score against in the last 18 months of Poch's reign and he had one of the best CB pairs in the league. It's not always down to the manager.

Well first off, with the squad we have, we should be beating Wolves. We completely lost our way today. And it's not that the expectation is high, we simply should be winning these games or at best, compete in them. We have good players, we have really good players and we also have some exceptional players. All those adjectives are based on what type of player shows up on each day. Ange has to take responsibility for today at least in part. And to reiterate, if we don't believe we can beat Wolves at home with the squad we have, then it's lights out.
