Since the introduction of of squad numbers Spurs have as far as i can remember never taken a shirt number away from a player. There's been a handful of times when a player has been asked if they're willing to change. Like when Sheringham returned and wanted his 10. Don't think Ade would be up for that though ..

Kane could have been 18 with England, but chose 9 cause he could and is star of the show. Could very well do the same for us
I'm quite sure England changes numbers every single game depending on the starting XI no? It's some tradition.

Who was it that paid for everyone's shirt when they changed their number? Was it Bale?

Adebayor. Nicely done of him. We signed him from City after Rafa had changed to 10, and Bale had taken 11. So Manu chosed 25, instead of 10 as he wore the season he was here on loan. Rafa left, and Ade took 10 again. And paid for everyone who had bought with 25.

Would like Nabil and Mason to get proper numbers this season. Hopefully the 6 and 8 left by Chiriches and Paulinho.

I predict the following, assuming we manage to shift the deadwood and we get our targets (being super optimistic):
4 Schneiderlin / Kramer or Bentaleb
6 Aldewereild or Wimmer
7 Pritchard
8 Bentaleb (or Mason if Bentaleb gets 4)
9 Martial
10 Eriksen
14 Alli
23 Mason (if Nabil gets 8)
24 Trippier
26 Wimmer (if Toby gets 6)

Something tells me Wimmer won't be given Ledley's number.

16 is available too, reckon that is a likely number for either Trippier or Wimmer

I don't think Adebayor will agree to move. I think he'll sit out his contract and pick up his massive wages for another year and then move as a bosman and get a fat contract in China or whatever. You get more wages and signing bonuses as a bosman = suits Adebayor perfectly.
He doesnt deserve the #10 shirt he has been a poor shadow of players that have worn that number for us.

I definitely wouldn't get a shirt with player name / number on back until numbers announced or if they already are a firm first team with established number - say Ginola who always had 14 or someone with 1 - 11.

I always thought Bale could move from 3 as he moved away from left more and more for example.

I personally would like Kane to be 10 as my favourite number.

Plus Kane was a massive fan of Sheringham, 9 could go to another incoming attacker.

Bentaleb really should get 4 or 8, depending on which other midfielder we (hopefully get in).

Eriksen is another possibility for either 8 or 10.

Mason also needs to be shunted up, possibly to 8 but depends on who else we get in.

Pritchard needs a number in first 25, probably not 1-11 yet though.

Dier I would like to get 6 unless we buy a really big name centre back, but I'd like Dier to be first choice really and let him develop.

Trippier depends on Walker, 12 already taken by Yedlin and Chadli took 22, both ideal right back numbers when 2 not available. Maybe he'll get 16 as Naughton's old number? Chadli could be shifted to 7 though to leave 22 vacant.

*squad number geek out* :joyful:

During qualifiers they wear 1-11 but for tournaments they stick to whichever number they are assigned at start.
