(From an article claiming Steed, Jones and Gordon are all overrated):

Steed Malbranque – Sunderland’s current slump owes itself greatly to the side’s chronic lack of creativity, which may come as a surprise to outsiders remarking on the presence of Andy Reid and former Fulham talisman Malbranque. The Frenchman was one of the league’s hottest properties during his Craven Cottage days but appeared to lose his way a bit at Tottenham Hotspur. The downward trend has continued at the Stadium of Light, where he has proven to be about as useful as a baguette to a batsman. Dubious fitness or Steve Bruce’s somewhat agricultural tactics could be the factors here. Still, he’s got to be a better option on the right than Frazier Campbell. Perhaps the attack-inclined Alan Hutton will help him out on the right hand side.

Malbranque I fear may be finished unless he comes back from a spell out revitalised.

Well they're certainly not overrated here,we all know all 3 are crap.

I must be in the minority then. I think Jones is great, Gordon above average and Malbranque poor.

All three are overrated but for me the biggest disappointment was Malbranque.

Malbranque and Jones could both fit into the over-rated catagory, the former has been shocking this year, while Jones hasn't produced his form of the last couple of years.

Jones looks like he is trying again (but is it enough?) and Malbranque looks to have totally lost his way (Hutton could help him out).

I've not seen much of Sunderland at all this year, so hadn't realised just how bad Steed was doing. Hope he turns it around, 'cause he always seemed like a decent fella.

I have a Sunderland supporting friend who's made comments to me about Steed being absolutely awful away from home. He was very impressed with him when he first signed but now all he does is moan about it him. Such a shame, I liked him when he was at Spurs and was gutted when he went, although can now see we got rid at the right time!

Big shame if he is underperforming, i still say we sold him a season too soon.

He's a worker and will turn it around.

I wouldn't say he lost his way at Spurs. I thought he struggled to nail down his best position early on in his Spurs career. But he adapted well to the left midfield spot. Put a great shift in for us. The biggest difference with him at Fulham and then Spurs was his attacking play. He used to play further upfield for Fulham, often in the whole behind the striker. I thought he was very effective at the role he played for us though. His workrate was excellent. In a way, he went some way to replacing Davids.

I haven't seen much of Sunderland this season either. But they're having a poor season now, especially after a good start to the season. So it's always going to be hard to impress for them atm. Maybe his legs are on their way out a bit now though. He is 30 now, and he has had trouble with injuries in the past. Maybe its catching up with him now.

This is my favourite quote of all. How fecking useless must a striker be to not be able to produce this kind of form:

2007/2008 - 7 goals in 33 appearances
2008/2009 - 12 goals in 31 appearances

Although 6 goals in 18 appearances this season means he's basically on the same form as always, just now everyone is realising he's shit.

It scares the shit out of me that we bid as much as we did for him last year!

Not so sure about that, we might have taken a big hit on the fee if we'd have kept him another season.

I missed him at the time we sold him but in hindsight (which is a wonderful thing) I think we were right to sell.

I was more gutted that Tainio and Kaboul were being sold.

Teemu generally did well at Sunderland, though was injured far too often and shipped out to Brum (where he's mostly been injured), and Kaboul has obviously ended up back at the Lane, though as a much more experienced player. Right decisions all round, in my opinion.

Tanio was great, the problem was that he was made of glass

I'll never forget how awesome Teemu and JJ were in the Ar5ena1 game. Both were absolute quality that night.

Tainio when fit was brilliant for us.

Tainio, when fit, was indeed class.

I'm sure when he was at Auxerre he didn't suffer such horendous fitness problems...

Go on Tano, ave him!

Tainio was incredible in the 5-1 win against Arsenal. Completely negated Fabregas.

I feel sorry for Malbranque. He's a good footballer but look who he's playing with. Bent.
And Kenwyn Jones isn't exactly a thinking mans footballer either.

This is a pattern in bent's career. He's scores goals but the teams he plays in don't. Charlton got relegated, we had our worst spell in 5 years, Sunderland have sunk like a lead balloon.
